Rating: Summary: But is it the right kind of water? Review: This is such an important topic--water--and the author is on the right track. I have come to believe that so many of our problems are related to dehydration and even our medical professionals don't know it. I have recently learned that the water in our cells must be H30.OH--if the cells of our bodies are healthy, they turn H20 into H30.0H. But if our cells are damaged ( over 90% of our diseases are due to damage of one sort or another) giving them more H20 may not be enough. Water is now known to have memory--that the memory of where the water has been and what has been in it is stored in the molecules of the water, even if it has been purified. Do we need to pay attention? I think so! And we have a long way to go!
Rating: Summary: He's Right In Many Respects Review: While I don't buy every word the man said (who does with anybody)I whole heartily agree with practically all the man said. I have believed water to be very good for you from reading bodybuilding magazines over the years but I had no idea how plain water could so positively affect the proper function of so much of the body. The book re-enforced what I already knew and believed but more than that it brought to light many things I didn't know. The book is an easy read with most chapters being 20 pages or less so it can be read in just a few days. Much of the scientific jargon is broken down into layman's terms rather well. I will be keeping my copy for reference and buying a copy for friends and family. One very interesting fact Dr. Batmanghelidi brings up is that he don't sell water. Shows me he is truly (most likely anyhow) concerned with helping people and not just blasting the medical profession, or rather the medical profession's main objective and that is money instead of creating a healthier society and caring for people. If there is a downside to the book it is that he does have a sharp tongue of criticism toward some doctors and organizations. Still, the man can back up what he says. Get the book and read it. You'll be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: WATER---The CHEAPEST Life Insurance and Health Insurance Review: My mother gave me a copy of this book in 2000. (But I have been drinking lots of extra water since 1997 when someone else advised me of it's health benefits). I consider this one of the most valuable books I own.Since I started drinking lots of water 5 years ago, I have noticed that I almost NEVER get sick any more. And when I do get sick, it doesn't hang around very long and it isn't severe. That's good enough evidence for me. Oh yeah, My sister has Dr Batmanghelidj's book too, and she prevents most of her migraines by drinking lots of water (she used to get migraines LOTS more often). Now, when she does get an occasional migraine, she drinks a couple glasses of water, and the migraine almost always goes away quickly. That's two out of two that I know of that are seeing clear results with the advice of this book. Thank you, Dr Batmanghelidj, for your very practical book!!!! --George Stancliffe
Rating: Summary: So simple, so effective. Review: We all know that we should drink 8 glasses of water a day and this book explains why. The book is based on the paradigm shift that it is water that governs all funtions of the body, not the solid matter. Previously, it was assumed that water (the solvent) was only a means of transport for the more vital solute. Because water makes up 75% of our bodies and it is vital to every function, Dr. "Batman" says, dehydration is the cause of many ailments, from depression to high blood pressure to insomnia, to headaches. He says a dry mouth is one of the last signs of dehydration. The solution, therefore, is simple-- just drink water. He says that many of these ailments are often treated with medications, which therefore are really only treating the symptom and not the cause, not to mention that side-effects are added with meds. As other reviewers have mentioned, his last chapter on AIDS seems out of place in this book. I didn't read the book all the way through, preferring to just skim through it because of its detailed and technincal nature. You may not want to read it at all and just prefer to take his, and the reviewers', word for it and simply drink more water. I give the idea a solid 5 stars but I give the book 4 stars because of the style and structure of the writing. I think it could have used an index, as well as info on water impurities such as what is really in tap water and whether it might be good to buy a water filter since the reader will be drinking so much of the stuff. I've read info about bottled water that wasn't even included here. They say bottled water is no better than tap water, and actually often contains more germs. Also, it costs many times more than tap water. I'm sure his idea of water works on animals and plants too. Make sure your pets get plenty of water and your houseplants/ garden as well. I know someone who has a swimming pool with bushes on both sides of it. On one side, a hill leads down to the bushes, on the other side, the hill goes down from the bushes. The bushes that are on the bottom of the hill have significantly more growth and look healthier, greener. It's because the hill draws more water towards them, while on the other side of the pool, the water is pulled away from the bushes by the hill.
Rating: Summary: Major life Improvement! Review: I admit, I was skeptical. I felt like I would be silly not to try it, though--I have suffered with asthma for fifteen years, and this was such a simple thing. I gave up caffeine and aspartame, and I drank the prescribed water. It took about two months, but my asthma has dramatically improved. I was a two-to three time a day user of an albuterol inhaler, along with two different steroid inhalers. I have eliminated all but a minimum dose of one steroid inhaler, and I almost never need the albuterol. During allergy season, yet! This book gets good marks for its advice to drink more water, but it is not particularly well written. Some of what he writes about sounds particularly far-fetched, and I am still skeptical about a lot of what he says. Still, it's hard to argue with success. If you have suffered with asthma, this book is definately worth a try.
Rating: Summary: "Water" Made A Difference In My Life Review: I read the 1st Edition of "Your Body's Many Cries For Water" around April 1993. I found the book to be interesting, and the information the doctor shared made a lot of common sense. Prior to reading the book, I had been diagnosed with mild manic depression, and I had been taking Lithium for over 10 years. After reading the book, I began drinking MORE WATER. What did I have to lose? Also, I began taking a PATENTED multi-vitamin to make sure my body was absorbing minerals into my cells. If you're drinking a lot of water, it can cause a loss of salt and water soluble vitamins. Therefore, as stated in the book "You may need to increase your vitamin intake from foods or supplements, and you may need to add salt". I'm HAPPY to say that I weened myself off the Lithium after about 2 months of increasing my water intake and taking the UNIQUE multi-vitamins. I have CONTINUED this regimen and I have NOT needed to take the Lithium nor have I had to see a doctor for almost 9 years. My LIFE has been truly ENHANCED from reading this book. My suggestion is to read the book yourself. Remember the old adage "You can lead a horse to WATER, but you can't make him drink it"? What are YOU going to do??? I hope you decide to READ the book and then DRINK MORE WATER!!! It may make a difference in YOUR life as well...
Rating: Summary: Just Try It! Review: It's only day three of my "water cure" and my ten year acid reflux problem is GONE! I can't get over how many people wrote critical reviews because of their preconceptions. They're ridiculous, and may keep some people from trying this miraculous remedy. Just try it! IT CAN'T HURT YOU, despite what some misinformed reviewers have said. They obviously didn't read the book, because if you also add the recommended amount of salt to your diet, you'll have no problems. Yes, it may be a little difficult at first for you to drink that much water, but trust me, once you start feeling better, you'll look forward to drinking it, because with each glass you feel better and better.
Rating: Summary: Dr. Batman has "Vision" Review: I enjoyed Dr. Batmanghelidj's book to the fullest. As a former college athlete, I was not aware of what a key role water plays in the body. Dr. Batman goes in to meticoulous detail of how water replenishes anti-bodily fluids and sustains a strong nutritional value. Im amazed that even in today's health care economy, the essence of water is heavily underated. From the initial stages on digestion to the culprit's of dehydration, Dr. Batman's enduring research on water's effect on the body has solidified water as my only choice!
Rating: Summary: Is genius seeing what's already there that others ignore? Review: Dr. Batman learned about the therapeutic power of water, i.e. it's medicinal function, in an Iranian prison. He was the lone Doc amonst hundreds of inmates all of whom, like he, were subjected to inhumane conditions foisted upon them by a crazed dictator; we're talkin' circa 1979 with the Ayatollah Khomeini. Water was all he had to work with and the Boss aimed to keep it that way. The good doctor discovered that the body can accelerate its healing process thru excessive irrigation of its tissues, joints and organs. Voila! Drink copius volumes of water. The fact that so many have experienced dimished pain and increased comfort is mute testimony to the factual underpinnings of the doctor's thesis. To this I say, "go forth and continue to do good things". The world can't have enough people like fereydoon Batmanghelidj.
Rating: Summary: Just plain old common sense Review: I have a friend who drinks practically no water at all and eats very little if any fresh fruits and vegetables, yet she gives water to her dog and she waters her plants. She complains constantly about pain, and she's on about a half dozen medications. One day I asked her if she would ever consider stop feeding water to her dog. The obvious answer was "no." I was waiting for her to ask further questions, but alas, nothing. That's the problem with human nature. We just don't get it sometimes. If a plant dies without water or even too little water, why do human beings not consume adequate water? If you don't consume adequate water, you might want to tell your friends you're on the "slow suicide diet" because that's what insufficient water intake is. As for the book, it was a little hard to read because it is technical and scientific. Much of the terminology was over my head, but a lot of the content was quite simple to understand in terms of how water affects food digestion, ulcers, our brain functions and so forth. Simply put, the author concludes that most disease and discomfort in the body is due to inadequate water intake. That's all. That sounds credible to me because I don't see any way the author could possibly make more money off his theories. He's not pushing food supplements or anything to sell. He's pushing water, and he even recommends tap water (no thanks). When I first read the book, I immediately increased my water intake. I started drinking one to two glasses of water at least one-half hour before each meal to prepare my digestive system. Within a day or two I noticed an immediate change in my digestion. No more "brick" feeling in my stomach all afternoon while my food digested oh so slowly. My only criticism of the book is that the author did not take into account that water can be ingested by eating fresh fruits and vegetables. He makes excellent points about how coffee, sodas and juices (canned) are not a substitute for water. There is no mention about fresh fruits and vegetables and the importance of consuming lots of these foods for their water content as well. I highly commend the author for this book. The part about salt intake really surprised me. I have always heard that salt is "bad" for the body, yet the author says the exact opposite and explains it in convincing detail. All I can say is that I need to read and reread the book to remind myself to consume water regularly. I'm giving this book five stars because it is worth it's weight in gold. It's mostly common sense mixed in with scientific and technical information which can be hard to follow at times unless you're into that stuff. I would be surprised if anyone read this book and was not convinced that drinking water was essential to health and well being.
