Summary: Don't buy this book
Review: I bought this book thinking it will help my health. This is a book with a fancy cover but beyond that a bunch of boring dry babble. The book itself feels really cheap and many of the pages have errors. I read the whole book. Did it help my health? No. I read this book about a year ago. I just beacame more aware of water. There are no real practical tips such as when to drink water and how much. What to add in the water? I don't know what book to recommend but don't buy this one.
Also in my experience drinking too much water can make you feel tired as all of your salts are flushed out of your system. I have found that sometimes drinking water right when you get up is helpful. Drink about a cup. Drinking water on hot sunny days will help up to a point. But if it's overdone you will feel tired.

Summary: Good old common sense for a change
Review: Have you ever had a book change your life? This one did for me. I went from 325# on a 5'11" frame to 220# in 8 months after reading and realizing how I was depriving myself of the most basic element for sustaining life.

This book not only shows you how water cures weight problems but numerous other things and it just plain makes common sense. The author exposes how the medical industry ignores this simple cure with countless medications that have a multitude of side effects and don't work as good as plain old water.

The Author is a Medical Doctor and is not ignorant, he believes there is a time and a place for medication, but water fits the bill more often than not. The book is also a good read as the author describes how he cured thousands in a middle east concentration camp with the only thing they let him have....water.

Summary: Nothing New
Review: From a couple thousand years ago, a paraphrase: "And Daniel drank water and ate vegtables for ten days and appeared healthier."

Why should anyone be surprised at the benefits of drinking water?

For more details on the benefits of drinking water AND eating vegtables (which mostly are PURE water) investigate anything written by Dr. Lorraine Day or Dr. Max Gerson--two MDs "amazingly" cured of severe health problems by an "amazingly" simple remedy.

Summary: Asthma + Salt Water Cure
Review: I was privy to an excerpt of this book about sea salt added to water, along with increasing the amount of actual water taken during 24 hours as a remedy for asthma. I read the explanation of asthma and its relation to dehydration and found it quite compelling. I have recently developed allergic asthma from smoking. (I am now a recent non-smoker).

On one particular day, I was on day 3 of an incredibly difficult allergic response. Wheezing constantly, unable to sleep because my breathing was so compromised due to over-production of phlegm and mucous, constant coughing and congestion; I was in hell and ready to try anything.

So I tried this "water cure" and my experience was this:
Within hours, I was hacking up copious amounts of phlegm for the next 24 hours as the phlegm loosened its grip on my bronchii. I know that water would thin mucosal secretions but that didn't mean anything about expelling them from my bronchii. This time, I was actually expelling great amounts of phlegm from my chest instead of a constant, non-productive coughing and horrible wheezing.

My breathing did improve but it still wasn't 100% mostly due to the fact that my body was still over-producing histamines, etc. (As a new non-smoker, my lungs and bronchii have much more to do to right now than a non-smoker with allergic asthma)

The next week, I had another flare up and decided to go the route of medications (inhalers, anti-histamines, allergy meds) instead of the salt water. The improvement in my breathing from this cocktail of medicinal chemicals was LESS than it was with the water. All this medication and I was still over-producing histamines, mucous, phlegm, wheezing and suffering congestion. The only difference was that I could feel those damn strings of phlegm vibrate in my bronchii when I forcefully exhaled instead of just feeling myself wheeze because the medications were keeping my airways more opened. I was not, however, expelling more phlegm or feeling it dissipate. Can you imagine having your airways opened only to feel like they are covered in tacky glue? That's what I felt like with the meds and not enough water in my body.

I am now taking my meds and using the water cure while my body goes through this smokers detox and this seems to be helping considerably. I know that proper hydration will contribute to a speedy recovery from all this.

Based on my experiences, which to me were dramatic, I bought this book. I totally support the importance of water for health.

As a side note, I work in a hospital and I see patients all the time that are given saline fluid (salt water fluid) through an IV needle because they are dehydrated and do not know it. On average, the better hydrated ones only voluntarily take in about 36 oz of fluid (This is about 1 quart) per 24 hours (and some of that is coffee!) and most never, ever drink water. This, combined with the lack of fresh fruits and vegetables (which contribute to hydration in our bowels during digestion) --- honestly - all the while, these patients would swear up and down to you that they aren't thirsty at all!

Can you imagine someone telling you that you are only going to have 1 quart of fluid per day? You would tell them they were crazy, wouldn't you? And yet, this is what we do to ourselves without thinking about it.

Life is sustained by what we nourish our bodies with. When did good health become more complicated than this?

Summary: A medical Galileo vs. the fallacies of Malthusian medicine
Review: "You see, the health care crisis of America that will bankrupt the nation if permitted to continue in its present trend, is not caused by the way it is operated. Nor is it entirely the result of greed-based pricing. It is caused by a most primitive mistake in the basic premise in the science of physiology that is [the] foundation to all medical and scientific knowledge of the human body...

"...the 'science of medicine' has expanded on a hopelessly erroneous paradigm. The very foundation of 'knowledge' on which medical practice of today is staking its credibility and license to practice is in error and ignorant of water metabolism disturbance as a possible cause of disease emergence in the human body."

YOUR BODY'S MANY CRIES FOR WATER
by Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, M.D.
From Chapter One and Chapter Ten

"A new scientific truth is not usually presented in a way to convince its opponents. Rather, they die off, and a rising generation is familiarized with the truth from the start."

Max Planck
(as quoted by Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, M.D.
in YOUR BODY'S MANY CRIES FOR WATER
Chapter Two: " The New Paradigm")

The paradigm shift in medicine of Dr. Batmanghelidj ["Baht-mahn-geh-LEEJ"] as explained in YOUR BODY'S MANY CRIES FOR WATER is not political or politically minded. His proven theories are scientifically holistic in nature, in a world where science and information in the medical and pharmaceutical industries have become economically politicized to the point of being slowly but inevitably destructive--to individuals and society as a whole. The simple beauty of his perspective on the relationship of wellness, disease, water and nutrition flies in the face of accepted medical theory. As such it has been creating such a controversy that most accredited doctors across the country in the AMA (American Medical Association) and NIH (National Institute of Health), supported by the big pharmaceutical chains, have refused to comment on it for years. Most, that is, but not all, as he shows in the book.

Dr. Batmanghelidj's premise is simple common sense, amplified via the microphone of modern science. The human body, like the earth, is made up of almost 71% water. And as such *cellular dehydration*, i.e. the drying out and breakdown of the very cells which make up our body's organs and tissue, is the cause of most breakdowns of our immune systems--and, consequently, the overwhelming majority of the world's diseases.

The most deeply arresting and provocative part of the book however was his chapter on AIDS. Dr. Batmanghelidj holds strong in YOUR BODY'S MANY CRIES FOR WATER to the idea that "AIDS is not a viral disease but a metabolic disorder precipitated by an exaggerated way of life. IT CAN BE EQUALLY CAUSED BY SEVERE MALNUTRITION IN POORER AND FAMINE-STRICKEN SOCIETIES (emphasis mine)." His paradigm-shifting analysis in the chapter entitled "New Ideas on AIDS" wreaks havoc on the cherished origins theories of both the far right and the far left in America simultaneously. (He shows, with pure science, an explanation of both AIDS's origins and its rape of the African continent and the American gay community far more logical than a) the homosexual/negro morality plays of the fundamentalist right OR b) the secret CIA biological warfare testing turned Frankenstein theories of the conspiratorial left.) POVERTY, it seems, may be the true epidemic disease: it is the central cause of the dysfunctional behavior and nutritional patterns that contribute to the metabolic systems failure of AIDS victims' bodies throughout the world who, up till now, have been wrongly labeled as victims of an avoidable but incurable virus. (Could there be a better explanation as to how the mysterious new disease SARS originated in the poverty-stricken areas of China?) This is why the cure has yet to be found; *it has yet to be properly searched for*. This controversial idea reopens the debate of AIDS and behavior, but in such a way that it revalidates our decades-old lectures on sexual deviance and individual responsibility via making them metaphors of state sponsored political deviance and international economic responsibility--with science, not poetry or politics. And it cannot be invalidated and ignored for long, because it is simply an expression of the scientific/philosophical foundation of his metabolic/cellular approach to the relationship of dehydration and disease, which has already proven its validity. In fact, YOUR BODY'S MANY CRIES FOR WATER carefully documents, via the innumerable patient recovery examples and the praise he has garnered from doctors around the country, Dr. Batmanghelidj's treatment of everything from hypertension to asthma, back pain to muscular dystrophy, depression to obesity through this approach, and much more. I found what is probably the source of my eczema and overeating, my son's childhood asthma and my mother's high blood pressure and arthritis, all in the first chapter.

I would invite anyone interested in the topic to also read the work of anthropologist Elaine Morgan (SCARS OF EVOLUTION; DESCENT OF WOMAN). Also, the work of Michael Talbott: THE HOLOGRAPHIC UNIVERSE. The *Aquatic Ape Hypothesis* that is the foundation of Elaine Morgan's anthropological philosophy--and her ongoing 30 year battle to have it accepted by academia despite its lucidity--will go far in helping you understand the simple wisdom and beauty of YOUR BODY'S MANY CRIES FOR WATER's approach to health. THE HOLOGRAPHIC UNIVERSE by Michael Talbott will give you an even greater understanding, via plain language, of the 21st century post-quantum physics of the spiritual protege of both Einstein and Krishnamurti that was David Bohm (he knew them both personally) and his profoundly innovative neurologist friend Karl Pribram. Their discoveries can be said to serve as the scientific basis for Dr. Batmanghelidj's holistic, bio-chemical/cellular approach to good health: the science that bridges the chasm separating quantum mechanics, biology, consciousness and mysticism, leaping far beyond the (inaccurate) 18th century Newtonian physics and Malthusian political philosophy that still serve as the unconscious pillars of most of present day medical health theory.

YOUR BODY'S MANY CRIES FOR WATER is amazing. And Dr. Batmanghelidj is a genius.

Summary: Total nonsense
Review: As a urologist, I can definitively say that this book is total nonsense. There is absolutely no medical evidence that forcing water on yourself when you're not thirsty will improve your health. If you are susceptible to kidney stones, then yes, a high fluid intake can help prevent their formation. But for a normal adult on a typical Western diet, most of your fluid requirements are met by the foods you already eat--fruits and vegetables are 80% water, a bowl of cereal contains about one cup of water, even cake is at least 40% water.
In fact, drinking TOO much water can be very dangerous. Water intoxication can lead to impaired thinking, coma, seizures and even death. People who are taking medications that contain antidiuretic hormones are especially vulnerable because their kidneys are not as efficient at filtering water out of the body.
The best advice I can give is to "Obey your thirst," as they say in the cola commercial. Your thirst is highly sensitive to even minute changes in body fluids, and it knows a lot more about your body's water needs than Fereydoon Batmanghelidj.

Summary: "Something to consider"
Review: I read this books a few years ago, so it's hard to remember specifics. Drinking a lot of water is very important, and vital to the functioning of all our organs. I do agree with another reviewer; the type of water was never discussed, (something also to consider). The authors writing was not reader friendly, which was okay because of the content. One topic that I felt was important: Do not attempt to remove salt from your diet. His reason for this was: Salt helps the body absord and assimilate water. As for me, I know I need to drink more water than I do. It's something we need to develop a habit for. It's true, water is not the only solution. We also need a good diet, exercise, rest, and good posture... not to mention a dynamic attitude.

Summary: And Hippocrates recommended 2,400 years ago
Review: And Hippocrates recommended 2,400 years ago to drink your water cold:
"Hot drinks weaken the flesh, afflict the nerves, undermine health and waste blood."
In a book called "Your Body's many cries for Water", Dr. "Batman" (Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, M.D.) states: "You are not sick, you are thirsty!" and claims lack of water or dehydration being the culprit for many diseases, which he calls mere manifestations of thirst signals. One of the first symptoms is dyspeptic pain. Dr Batman has treated over 3 000 patients with dyspeptic pain, who responded to an increase in water intake, and their clinical problems associated with pain disappeared. When the body urgently calls for water, nothing else can substitute it, neither antacids nor cimetidine medications.
It has been shown experimentally that one glass of water is immediately absorbed by the intestine and within one half hour secreted into the stomach for food breakdown. That's why Dr.Batman advises to drink two glasses of water before each meal. He reasons that this simple rule will help to dissolve excess cholesterol buildup, normalize hypertension, avert migraine headaches, and even prevent Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Batman claims that antacids contain 150-600 mg of aluminum in every spoonful of the liquid, or in each tablet that is chewed. Aluminum toxicity is a secondary complication of dehydration, in which many, many functions of brain cells begin to get lost.
The book is very explicit and elaborates on many diseases that plague modern society; I especially took benefit on his chapter on Aids. I do highly recommend this book, in my capacity as MA, Reiki Master and Bachelor of Science in Natural Health. Gerborg

Summary: Hey, it also worked for me.
Review: Read this book (just the part that applies to you) and you begin to understand the vital necessity of drinking water. I did, I do and, incredibly, after following the suggestions I no longer find it necessary to stock antacid. I saved money and feel a lot better and you can't beat that.

Summary: WATER IS THE MEDIATOR
Review: Dr. Batmanghelidj proposes a jumble of ideas in his book; some ideas are quite sound, some ideas are questionable, but all have merit. At first glance one may think that Dr. B's water cure idea is too simple. One may think that water can't do everything as Dr. B. suggests. However, such seemingly logical skepticism may soon reveal itself as very illogical. Another man, a French scientist named Dr. Jaques Benveniste, has proposed a compelling idea---backed by experimental evidence---suggesting that water may have a memory. Although Dr. B. does not speak about this piece of fringe science called 'Water's Memory' within his book, water memory may have a lot to do with the miraculous effects of proper hydration. When one considers the possibility that water may have a memory, ideas such as the water cure are exposed as potentially paramount. Throw away the coffee, the beer, and the coke; in the future such habits and addictions will undeniably prove quite foolish. Believe it or not, everything in this universe is vibration and water is a mediator in this stew of frequencies. Let water mediate and cure with water.
