Rating: Summary: A MUST for anyone who wants their realtionship to work Review: I read several of the reviews before me. I'd understand why they don't think the book's good. When I was reading the book & trying to practice the things taught in this book several years ago, I was quite frustrated, too. After a while, you get fed up, 'cos you kept thinking, "Why am I the one who's being understanding? Why can't HE understand, too!?" And then, I quit trying, I kept the book in the shelf. Finally, that relationship didn't work & I got involved with another man. And I must say, what I learnt in this book slowly surface from me, and it changed my life. I've become well-known & appreciated for my understanding & consideration, & that's why my boyfriend, now my husband loves me so much & is willing to sacrifice for me. That's what John taught us, when the woman becomes understanding, the man will give more, and the woman will be rewarded, and she'll be happy; when the man sees that he's making the woman happy, he's willing to give more, and this just goes round & round in circles. But then, of course, you'd need the right partner!
Rating: Summary: most people are from earth, pop psychologists are from hell Review: if this book is so good and the answer to all our relationship problems, why has he come out with so many mutations including "mars and venus single again"? my advice: don't give him your money!!!
Rating: Summary: Simplistic and Patronizing Review: Deborah Tannen's books are superior. I sensed a "There, there little woman" attitude that made my teeth hurt. The differences in communciation style, though helpful to adolescents, could have been set out in one chapter.
Rating: Summary: IT'S DEFINITLY INTERESTING, BUT A LITTLE DRAWN OUT ! Review: I have to say I did find this book very interesting. It has some really true and funny points. In an example from the book, a man says to his wife/girfriend, "It's no big deal, translated to him means please don't dwell on this problemm or talk more about it. That makes me more upset. I accept responsibility for solving this problem. It makes me happy to solve it." Without this translation, when he says, "It's no big deal", she hears, "You are making a big deal out of nothing; what concerns you is not important. Don't overreact." Now that comment that was "no big deal" has turned into a "big deal." This book will definitly help you to better understand where the opposite sex is coming from. If you are interested in learning about the opposite sex, then definitly give the book a chance. If on the other hand, you don't really enjoy reading and you're a little curious about the book. Don't bother because it's a little drawn out and you won't finish it.
Rating: Summary: No answers here Review: This books does an excellent job of explaining why Men act like such jerks and feel totally OK about their behavior and why women put up with it for so long before they finally snap. However, there is no advise for women in this other than being a doormat isn't enough, you need must also be a cheerful, sincere doormat.
Rating: Summary: Repetative and Condescending Review: I already new 90% of what was discussed in this book, just from being aware of what goes on around me. You can see it demonstrated live just by watching Home Improvement. I found myself becoming irritated at the style and voice the author used to convey his points and kept saying "get to the meat." But then, if he had, the book would be a pamphlet. A serious waste of money.
Rating: Summary: Great Author, relationship expert!!! Review: I would like to say that this book really helped my relationship!!. There are so many things I actually never understood about men, lone woman in relationships!??..This book was great in explaing details, giving loads of information on both sexes, to help us understand each other-to get along, and have that understanding of each other-to have that long, lasting and loving relationship we all want!. Thank you! Great book, among others by the same author!! It really will help your relationship, it did mine!!!
Rating: Summary: Should be required reading Review: This book is something everyone should read. It makes so much sense. Not all of it might pretain to you, but I'm sure most of it will...and what doesn't will pretain to someone you know. Its also good for a laugh.
Rating: Summary: NOT BAD BUT NOT GREAT, EITHER Review: John Gray seems like a nice enough guy, but the book doesn't help you to understand much more than the fact that men and women are different. If you really want to understand your partner-- or yourself for that matter--I loved a book called INSTANT ANALYSIS--sorry, but the author's name escapes me. Overall Gray has some interesting points, but the ideas are spread a little too thinly.
Rating: Summary: a tacky little book by a tiny little man Review: After wasting three hours of my life reading this reprehensible exercise in stereotypical thinking (not to mention poor writing), it's easy to see why John Gray would think of women as being from another planet: it's clear that he's completely in the dark when it comes to dealing with anyone in a mature, open-minded fashion without relying on juvenile metaphors and 50s sit-com solutions. YIKES!!!! Personally, I think John Gray is one of the horsemen of the apocalypse. And not in a good way, either.
