Rating: Summary: Not for everyone... but it works! Review: I bought this book, along with the cookbook, on Amazon a month ago and followed the diet plan closely for the first two weeks (I lost 13lbs.) and loosely for another 7-10 days for a total weight loss of 27lbs. It is not the easiest diet to follow, as the flax oil tastes really icky and the flaxseed fiber supplement drink is equally hard to swallow, but if you actually do what the author suggests, you Will lose weight. What I found the most difficult was eating eggs without salt and topping my protein portions with the flax oil as suggested. I think (I cannot prove it with personal research), that flax oil is much the same as linseed oil. It's not the initial taste, but the lingering aftertaste that put me off. I did learn how to cut back on carbs, fats and sodium (it's amazing what you can do with mustard and hot sauce) and did manage to modify my long term dietary intake, but after a month, I wanted to taste a grilled steak with garlic salt and maybe even a touch of butter, not to mention a crusty bit of bread! If you are more committed and have more willpower than I do, you can really lose a significant amount of weight on this plan and alter your palate. I have maintianed my weight loss (except for 4 lbs.), which is probably water weight due to increased sodium intake) and am very happy with the plan. I did lose a good amount of weight and learned alot on how to control portions and refined carbs without any real discomfort. The cookbook has lots of really good recipes, most of which could be elevated to stardom with some off-limits additions of butter! The mock mashed potatoes, using cauliflower was a real hit in my household and is still something I will fix regularly. This is an effective but not entirely painless diet plan suited for someone with real dedication. I thank the author sincerely for the many pounds I lost initially and for the good advice that I continue to follow. It's worth trying, especially if you have 20+ lbs. to lose!
Rating: Summary: Extraordinary! I lost 27lbs. in 3 weeks! Review: I bought this book after reviewing all the buyer's reviews, followed the plan and lost 27lbs. in 3 weeks! There is no other diet plan or program that I know of that can offer results like that! It was not always easy to bypass the salty and sweet extras that I usually crave, but after only two weeks on this plan, I did not feel any real cravings for the things I used to eat regularly! True, flax oil is not a tasty treat, but just knowing that by following the plan and doing the things the author suggests will really result in pounds and inches lost, it's easy! This is not a plan that I think anyone will actually subscribe to for life, but the initial weight loss and inches gone are incentive enough to follow at least the beginning phase and apply the principles in the future. I also purchased the Recipe book and highly recommend many of the listings, especially the mock mashed potatoes, using cauliflower puree...it is delicious on it's own and if you embellish it with a touch of butter or cream cheese, it is to die for! This book is perfect for initial weight loss and altering life long bad patterns of eating. I am following the plan loosely now and am still losing inches and feeling great!
Rating: Summary: Not for me, maybe for you Review: This book calls for major lifelong eating changes. It requires time, effort and motivation. The changes in your diet are expensive (you can substitute organic coffee for regular coffee) plus alot of the food items are difficult if not impossible to find if you live in a rural area (population under 10,000 and the largest city where I might be able to find some of these items is 3 hours away) like I do. The other problem I have with this dieting technique is that it calls for the eating of alot of protein and while I am not quite a vegetarian, neither do I consume a lot of animal products. There is a question and answer portion of the book where a "vegan" asks is there is anything special they should do and the author admits that "....animal proteins play such an important role in the Fat Flush Plan, vegans will be challenged to find equivalent sources...." I have started taking a few of the supplements she recommends plus adopted a few of the other techniques she calls for but quite frankly, I am a single working mom of 3 and do not have the time to cook these meals for myself nor eat so frequently throughout the day or time my meals so I can have a glass of water 20 minutes before a meal.
Rating: Summary: A diet that works and does not require you to exercise a lot Review: I have lost 20pounds in 8 weeks and lost weight from the first day on the diet.I was supposed to exercise for 5 minutes a day on a mini tramploline to move my lymph fluids but did not do the exercise on a lot of days.I was supposed to walk for 30 minutes a day but could not find the time.I continue to lose weight each week. The only drawbacks have been hunger pangs at night and constipation from the high levels of protein. The plan is backed up by dozens of references.By eating flax oil ,fish oil and evening primrose oil, the dieter gets a balanced intake of healthy oils and speeds up metabolism. You can eat fruit, vegetables, eggs, meat, fish, chicken ,turkey etc so the diet is very flexible.I recommend this book as the plan really works.
Rating: Summary: Innovative Review: The premise is great! I was able to endure the program for about a week. At that point I had to modify it somewhat in order to continue. I realized that I could give up alcohol, coffee and even sugar but no salt not even low salt or sea salt was more than I could endure. I was still able to loose 10 pounds and incorporate the rest of the diet into my basic routine.
Rating: Summary: A healthy diet for people who want to get well Review: I am a medical intuitive and I am always searching for diets to recommend to my clients. I look for diets that will help people feel well, as well as lose weight. Ann Louise's Fat Flush Plan is such a diet. I often receive calls from people who feel exhausted, depressed, and feel that they weigh more than they should for the amount of food they're eating. I often recommend a low carb, high protein diet with healthy fats. I am delighted that I can now recommend Ann Louise's book so that my clients can read and understand why a well-planned, low carbohydrate diet will help them feel better. Ann Louise's diet is easy to understand and easy to follow. The receipes easily help them know how to eat. And the health benefits of such a diet are tremendous. Lose weight and feel better with the same diet. What a perfect combination!
Rating: Summary: Using the Fat Flush Plan has cured me of pain!! Review: I'm a 40-year-old, 5'2" female who has suffered from severe and chronic breast pain for over 10 years. The pain in my breasts has been so constant and excruciating, that I have worn my bra 24x7 throughout most months, usually for 25 days out of each month. The only respite being when my period starts. After about five days, I was back to wearing that bra all day and all night. Mammograms on a yearly basis have always come out fine. My husband hasn't been able to get near me with ease for so long. I started this plan on January 12th, dropped 10 lbs. so far on Phase I, and I feel like a new person! Part of me wanted to do this in order to drop some weight, but the other part of me was hopeful that this would be the plan that would help alleviate this constant breast pain. I can't tell you how grateful I am to Ann Louise Gittleman. This is the longest I've gone without the pain--11 days!! Even if that's all I get, I'll be forever thankful. This book (which I picked up while browsing through the bookstore) has been the best gift I've ever given myself, and I would highly recommend this plan to anyone who wants to feel better, look better, and live longer! Thank you so much Ann!!
Rating: Summary: some interesting ideas Review: I have adapted several of her ideas into my daily regimen, but I think this diet is too rigorous for the average person. I love the long life cocktail and lemon water drinks. I have also taken her advice on some of the supplements (the liver boosting supplements) that seemed to have sped up my weight loss.
Rating: Summary: Worked for me! Review: I lost 30 pounds in 2 months on this plan. The weight literally dropped right off of me. The first week I was sluggish and tired but now my energy is higher than its ever been. I do not stick to it in the strict regard that it is meant to be anymore but I have incorporated my own ideas and what works for me, kind of a combo of Fat Flush and Atkins. I am not much of a meat eater but I do pay close attention to carbs. I incorporate the Fat Flush regimin of supplements, cranberry water, flax oil and Protein shakes etc. still and have one day a week of eating what I want. I have too or I would go insane.
Rating: Summary: Diabetes and Cholesterol Relief At Last Review: When I read TFFP 11 months ago, I had suffered diabetes for 15 years. Over the years I progressed from a solution consisting of diet and exercise to the use of diabetic medications and then eventually to also taking insulin. I became insulin resistant and developed Syndrome X. For several years I was daily giving myself 100 units of insulin perday and taking 2 tablets of Glucophage and 2 of Avandia to achieve some control. My last A1C test was 9.7. My cholesterol had been 266. I was on Baycol for 12 months when it was taken off the market last August. My doctor then prescribed other statins which caused severe pain in my legs and chest and also did not control my cholesterol readings. My wife and I read the Fat Flush Plan book on a Sunday afternoon. We went to the supermarket Sunday evening, and started the Plan Monday morning, Feb. 25th, in earnest. Tuesday morning my glucometer readings were low so I cut the doses in half. On Wednesday morning my readings had again dropped lower and I discontinued the insulin and medications. I have had absolutely no medications or insulin since February 27th. My April 6th lab showed my cholesterol to be 166. The HDL's were up and LDL's were down. My total cholesterol has been getting lower ever since. My A1C is down to 5.5. I have always been overweight. For 30 years I have weighed between 250-300#. Taking insulin added about 50# to my weight. When I began on Feb. 25th, I weighed 352#, I guess. I say "guess" because my doctor's scale only went to 350# and my weight was off to the right of the end of the scale. My wife Joan weighed 253#. I wore size 60 pants and XXXL shirts comfortably. Joan was wearing XXL pants and tops. I am now 230# and wear size 40 pants and size 16 shirts. Joan is 160# and is wearing Medium size pants and tops. Over the past 10 years, I had developed a severe hiatic hernia. I had a lot of acid reflex at night and had been taking Aciphex for several years for this condition. After about a month, I discontinued Aciphex and have not been bothered with it since. I have had sleep apnia for 17 years. I had my uvula removed in 1987 and have been using a CPAP machine since 1996. On Feb. 25th I was using 16# of air pressure. I was tested again this last December and they reduced my pressure to 6#. My wife is a nurse and she used to come home literally in tears with the arthritis and pain in her legs from walking and standing. Now she comes home even after a 10-hour shift tired, but not in pain. She also no longer suffers from extreme pain in her thumbs and arms. And these are just the obvious benefits of the return of health my wife and I have experienced since we began the Fat Flush Plan. We had to be willing to change our life, but we happily embrace every aspect of the Plan. This is the Plan we are on for life. From the Sunday we read the book, we felt this was a healthy plan. It is a life filled with fresh fruits vegetables, nuts and oils. It's hard to go wrong with that. Thank you, Ann Louise, for setting our feet on this path.
