Rating: Summary: a good jump-start for a healthy lifestyle Review: I wasn't looking to lose weight. I was looking for a way to live where I wouldn't gain more weight, where I would feel good and not have little ailments. The principles in the book are based on sound research. To all the negative reviews with things like "it took too much time" or "it's too complicated," I'd say it sounds like a personal problem. Those people are probably not used to thinking much about what they eat. There are many shortcuts that make this plan workable - the crockpot, making meals all at once on the weekend for the week, etc. Did you know you can cook fresh veggies in the microwave, with just a little water? And yes, some things cost a pretty penny, but sit down and calculate how much money you spend in junk food, fast food, convenient foods, sodas, and over-the-counter drugs to solve all your little ailments. And then realize you won't be spending that money anymore. Realize that you may have an allergy to or physiological intolerance of whey, or flax, or cranberries, etc. And also recognize that the book is designed to give you guidelines, and that you should modify it to fit your life! That's what those of us who've had success with it do. Where the book lacks, the website provides support and a way to ask questions. To those who claim the meals are repetitive and flavorless - come ON, try some new foods for goodness sakes! Anyway, how can things be flavorless with garlic, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, basil, oregano, fennel, parsley...start sprinkling them in your foods like salt. It requires some creativity. It requires you to enjoy food!
Rating: Summary: I did it on The View Review: This plan really works. I worked with Ann Louise Gittleman and did the Fat Flush Plan for the TV talk show "The View". I was on the plan for 4 weeks and I lost 13lbs and almost 2 dress sizes. My boyfriend lost 22lbs in 4 weeks. I lost 9lbs in the first 2 weeks doing Phase 1 of the Plan. Two other diet plans were also featured on The View and I lost the most weight. I have been able to keep the weight off and continue to lose gradually. I feel so much better - lots more energy! Even some minor ailments disappeared as a result of flushing out the toxins. This plan is very easy to follow once you get started. The Fat Flush products are the best. The recipes in the cookbook are delicious and easy to prepare. Using the journal is very helpful. You really can lose weight without starving yourself and working out several hours a day. Taking the supplements is very important. The book is very reader friendly and easy to follow. I highly recommend the plan - it doesn't just focus on losing the weight but also promotes a healthy lifestyle.
Rating: Summary: Didn't work for me Review: I tried this plan on and off for 3 months. I kept loosing and gaining the same 12 pounds. The problem was the inability to stick to the diet. I had done Atkins successfully over a year ago, with 40 pounds lost, so I can stick to a diet, but not this one. My husband and children could not stand the food. It is a very restrictive diet, down to the seasonings you can choose. Each time I went off, I did not go wild but ate sensibly, in the same manner I usually do but gained all of that weight back. BTW my usual manner of eating has maintained my weight for a year. I believe most of the weight was water and I feel as a weight loss program the FF plan is a gimmick. I do have to give it it's props though. My skin is absolutley gorgeous now and after the first few days of dieting my mind experienced a clarity I haven't had for years. For weight loss I would not recommend this book but as a 2 week detox program, I definitely would. I'm going to look for ALG's Living Detox book after I find a weight loss book that actually works.
Rating: Summary: For This Type II Diabetic--A Medical Breakthrough Review: I have had Type II Diabetes for over thirty years. I was on many kinds of medications to help me control my disease and its symptoms including two insulin injections per day and oral diabetic medication. However, I was still eating just about what I wanted and wondering why I was always so tired and overweight. Last summer I heard about The Fat Flush Plan. I checked out the book from our local college library before I purchased my own copy. To make a long story short, within three weeks, I had to drastically reduce the amount of insulin I was on before eliminating the injections altogether. I am taking only half of my oral diabetic medication (and sometimes I do not have to take any). My other benefits include being placed on a much lowered blood pressure medicine, losing 35-40 extra pounds, feeling a lot better with higher energy, having better skin and shinier hair. I am not hungry while on The Fat Flush Plan. I love this lifestyle plan and do not attend on going back to my prior physical destructive ways. Ms. Gittleman has really researched her material and has presented it in a way that I understood.
Rating: Summary: A year to put it on, three weeks to take it off! Review: I'm not a diet kind of woman. No. I'm not a big vegetable fan, love sugar, pasta and snacking. So, no one is more surprized than I am that I tried and loved this diet. After first reading the book, I tossed it aside and was convinced I would never be able to do the plan. I went back here to read the reviews again and decided to at least give it a week. Once I got into the groove, found things to eat I could enjoy (salmon steaks, lean hamburger patties, meatloaf, pot roast, etc.) and vegetables that tasted good (like asparagus) I stuck with it. Did the walking, which was the pits at first, but as it got so much easier very fast, I felt fantastic that I could have so much energy! My whole body feels de-slogged and reinvigorated! A big help is Stevia, a sweetener that has no nasty aspartame and doesn't add calories or affect blood sugar levels. I add it to the cran-water and it tastes really good. Also, I use Stevia instead of sugar to make Kool-Aid for a nice change from plain water. I lost 14 pounds in the first two weeks and about five pounds in the next week (had to go on vacation, so I wasn't as strict). I'm not a dieter, as I said, but I do think this diet has all the answers for a change. The supplements you take are very important. Don't try the plan without them.
Rating: Summary: Finally! Review: This book really clicked with me. I am an exercise physiologist and was aware of Ann Louise Gittleman through her work at the Pritikin Program as well as her work beyond. This book really addresses the main issues with weight and health. The first two weeks are pivitol; they are a challange at first then you begin to feel totally different. To be free of all the toxins that the typical American diet made a huge difference for me. I recommend this book to anyone seeking the true answer to health. My advice is just to stick with it. It works.
Rating: Summary: If you are dedicated, it will work Review: I went through the 2 week flush and lost 18 pounds right away! I then had trouble transitioning to stage two, so I have since gained it all back. I'm ready to start out on it again, because I really felt great doing the flush phase and it was so successful. The supplements can be a bit expensive, but the rationale for them are sound. I'd rank this plan as a modified Atkins style diet and would definately recommend the Fat Flush portion even if you are on another plan.
Rating: Summary: Lost Weight and Stayed Off Review: I'd just like to say that the Fat Flush plan really works! Three months ago, I bough this book on a whim. I tried the Fat Flush plan for 1 week. I did not complete the 2 week program because I got a new job and was moving to a new place. Basically, my routine was thrown off. The first two days were difficult, I was irritable, and tired due to withdrawal symptoms forewarned by the author. But I pulled through and on the third day, I was feeling fine again. By the end of the week, I had lost 9 pounds! I have never been able to lose this much weight in such a short time in my life. The great thing was that I did not have to miss any meals or spend 4 hours at the gym. I still have 25 more pounds to go, but I justed wanted Dr. Gittleman to know the most amazing thing. Although I only stuck with the Plan 1 for a week, I have not gained back a single pound even though I am now keeping my diet prior to Fat Flush. It know is not the best practice, which is why I am planning to go back on the Fat Flush Plan very soon. For those of you who are wondering if this works, please give it a try. I feel that the ingredients in the recipes promote great health and you should do it for your health, if not anything else.
Rating: Summary: EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS!!!! Review: This book completely changed my ideas about dieting. I learned so much about the liver and it's role in weight loss that I didn't have a clue about. I've been taking Paxil for five months and gained ten pounds and now I finally understand why I am so bloated all the time. This book should be required reading for every adult.
Rating: Summary: Not for everybody Review: I didn't like this book, because it doesn't fit my lifestyle. If you have the time to shop the groceries you must shop for the diet and have the time to cook what you need to cook, then I think maybe could work, I don't know. I bought it because I am into the lowcarb lifestyle, and I rather do Atkins a thousand times before doing this program, and it has worked wonderfully for me, I am talking about Atkins of course.
