Rating: Summary: Excellent book and a word to all reading this book Review: There are a few comments regarding what Hawkins does (ie muscle testing) and how it "doesn't work". Out of all due respect to anyone thinking that because just like anything else, it's a skill. From the author of "Applied Kinesiology Synopsis 2nd Edition. "Manual muscle testing is a tool to evaluate function. As a tool, it is no better than the operator using it. Manual muscle testing can be likened to a stethoscope, which is a valuable tool of diagnosis but is no better than the individual interpreting the sounds perceived by the auscultation. In other words, a stethoscope is no better than what's between the earpieces. Manual muscle testing must be done with a high level of anatomical and physiological knowledge. Lack of this technical expertise creates a severe handicap for those who are doing manual muscle testing in some of the lay movements that are promoting the procedure." This IS how the body works from telling the truth, what you need for nutrition, etc, and if it isn't "working" there could also be other problems such as neurologial switching which is also explained in Walthers book above. Resolve this issue and you can go from there. This isn't cut and dry stuff. Our body is very complicated and we can't assume we can go to an MD and get the "pill of the month" and we will get better. I encourage anyone interested in this, either for their practice or for their health, to do the research and find a GOOD doc (there are bad docs in every field) to work on your body.
Rating: Summary: Adfficult to accept Review: Hawkins makes some claims in this book that are difficult for me to accept. He claims that muscle testing can be used to determine all sorts of things that are outside anyone's ability to know. For example, someone tests your arm strength by pressing down on it while you attempt to hold it up. If you say that there is life on Mars and your arm weakens, it means that there is not life on that planet. If your arm tests strong, it means that there is life on Mars. The same approach applies to determine if Clinton or Bush are telling the truth or to determine the level of truth in a book or a religion (20 to 1000). I have tried this with a number of issue and compared my results with those of others. I didn't find consistency. Now perhaps my friends and I are not as accomplished at muscle testing as Hawkins is, but I seriously doubt that he gets consistent results either. By the way, I think that muscle testing is effective and useful in other areas, but I would not want to use it in this esoteric way. I think it's dangerous and misguiding to base our conclusions on this technique being used in this unproven way.
Rating: Summary: Awesome. Review: The information contained in this book has truly expanded my awareness. I have been using kinesiological testing for years now and it has never failed me. The knowledge I have gained from this book is invaluable to me. The theories contained in the book have the high potential to make you think and consider other possibilities of reality, existence, and "truth". If you are "non-linearly" or "unconventionally" intellectual, I highly reccommend this book.
Rating: Summary: I must be a fool Review: This book could have scored high had it not been for the lies to start. I waited two months for this book and I have been pouring my energy into understanding it hoping that my life will dramatically change. I have to thank Hawkins for the change.Let me expalin; this book is a read pertaining to spritual, religious, personal, scientific, and political views of the author. I was o.k with that (I kept an open mind), I knew I would be reading his opinions only. I just want the facts. Dr. Hawkins does not talk about the data that he has to supposedly back these kineseological test. I let that slide, (thats twice so far). However, I am no fool, I can count averages. In his book he says that power vs. force calibrated at 810. He has a section where he has the numbers each chapter calibrates at, I added and totaled the chapters then divided them by the total of chapters which is 24 I calibrated (calculated) at 802.083333. Obviously that is less then the book claims. On top of that I bought his other two books in advance (my emotions got the better of me), and on the back cover of those books they claim that power vs. force calibrates at 850. Now why does the books say different? In his second book "the eye of the eye", the claims are that the book calibrates at 950. However, to its' credit I calculated it at 953.95, which would be higher. On the other side of the coin his third book,"I" reality and subjectivity, it claim calibrates at 999.8. These is not the numbers I have come up with(996.54). Why the discrepencies? I suppose they just pull numbers out of a hat. Anyway, back to power vs. force. I also wonder why in power vs. force why aren't any illustations of this muscle testing so beginners can learn since he is a premiere leading expert of this psuedoscience. If you don't believe me do your research on the subject, applied kineseology; Or check for books on muscle testing. You won't find this validated in the field, but, that would have been fine as long as it would work. Here lies the problem how is something going to work if you don't have precise instructions on how to use it? I know some still want to learn muscle testing so, here are some suggestions: Get books on the subject of muscle testing, (if that is the reason you was goiing to get this book), and look for some workshops in your area that teach how to apply these tests, maybe check with holistic shops, call them and see if they can lead you in the right direction, good luck. I gave this book two stars because it actually does have some good philosophical points. It is not the easy read though. Obviously, I don't reccommend this book (Do not like to be insulted) but, somthing did stand out called Morphogenic Field, (Rupert Sheldrake). If your interested go to the web type in m-field and see who writes about this philosophy and see if that can be of help to you, it has for me. In conclusion, I don't believe you can claim a book to be one thing and it doesn't live up to its' promises. I think this guy is telling lies to sell his books.
Rating: Summary: One of the most important books. Review: Reviewer Ruth Lyon was very skeptical of muscle testing, yet I have experienced its validity in many ways for over 25 years through its application by trained, qualified professionals who understand its correct use - mostly chiropractors. Her own skepticism makes her a poor judge of this method and therefore of Power Vs. Force. This book is one of the most important I have ever read, illuminating the effect of all things on human behavior. Music, color, environment, enterainment, literature and more all have an influence on the people who experience them. Hawkins has done us a great service in this work, and we would do well to listen to him. He points out that even excellence in some area of life doesn't mean it is of a beneficial effect, such as a skilled musican playing what some call "death rock" music. The effect is what matters. Of particular value is his clarification of the relative calibrations of emotions and attitudes of consciousness, much of which is little understood by most. With this map we can make choices and progress in our lives. It is a map to sanity and value that is much needed in this world. I know a someone who is well aquainted with the author, and he says he is indeed a brilliant man. Those who would be critical of him should look at their own qualifications to judge him or his methods. Power Vs. Force is a book not to be passed up. By the way, the first three chapters are extreemely dry clinical material and are hard for most to read with interest. Skim them if you need to, and get into the meat in chapter 4.
Rating: Summary: Skeptical Review: Search the World Wide Net and see if you can locate one good study that has been done on the efficacy applied kinesiology. The problem with this method, although it looks very impressive, is that the consciousness and effect of the administrator is not taken into consideration. Therefore, people will get different results from various practitioners, which I have witnessed. By the way, the body (including muscles) does sometimes lie, although it does remember nearly all events in our past, but muscles testing is not the best way to access them. However, muscle testing can be an effective tool in the hands of someone who is intuitive. Be very careful of erasure techniques (tapping, literally, into the subconscious) as they basically treat symptoms and do little to truly empower an individual.
Rating: Summary: It's Goes Far Deeper Than an Ounce of Artificial Sweetener! Review: I wonder if some of the reviewers here read the whole book. And if they did, how could they miss the most important point? Muscle testing was used by Dr. Hawkins as a simple demonstration - not as a party trick to "uncover" and "prove" Ultimate Truth. Please read and re-read the chapter; "The Source of Power" to better understand what he means about the important difference between power and force. Power is still and silent and needs no verification or endorsement to "prove" itself. It simply IS - the one and only source of Truth; the core of creation, from which all else manifests. We can't "force" an understanding of it no matter how much evidence we demand. When our need for hard proof subsides, the doorway we ourselves created, opens up. I think that's what Dr. Hawkins' is telling us.
Rating: Summary: Muscle testing is real Review: Well, this is a groundbreaking book. If some people can't see that, c'est la vie. I have been doing muscle testing for over 4 weeks with my girlfriend, and the results have been stunning. I used muscle testing to figure out that a friend's boyfriend kissed a girl while in London, England (he had been all over Europe and many cities in England). Let's just say the muscle testing was correct, and they are no longer together. I would have liked to see more examples in the book (for example US Presidents on the conciousness scale). There are things that can affect muscle testing not covered in the book. Anyone that is interested in muscle testing I would encourage to seek out a practitioner in their area for further guidance. Just remember, no one believed Copernicus when he said the Earth wasn't the center of the universe. Any good "scientist" knew better back then. Just food for thought to all the naysayers...
Rating: Summary: Hawkins is VERY dualistic Review: I am writing a review on "Power vs Force". I have also read "The Eye of the I" and "I Reality and Subjectivity". I wanted to give Hawkins a fair chance so I also ordered some of his seminar tapes. He goes on and on about "nonduality" yet his teachings are very much about "spiritual work", "do this work and you will eventually become enlightened. It is about "getting somewhere in the future". If you read his books and listen to his tapes you will find them bogged down with Christianity. He cannot get away from "good vs evil".
Rating: Summary: Wow, this tops the list for the biggest hoax of all time! Review: I don't write reviews often, but I had to say something about this book. With several great reviews and a friend of mind bragging about it, I had high hopes for it. I was really looking for a good read! Unfortunately, I'm quite disappointed. I have a in degree in physics and try to think logically about things, and most importantly don't completely accept things on blind faith. This is an obvious stumbling block for the book. Little factual info, mixed with lots of claims that have to be taken on faith. The author addresses this concern directly by pretty much telling me I'm "limited" in some way. The author basically directly says it. If you believe in the time proven scientific method, then you are just limited or it's just a perception problem. (Now isn't that clever!) I totally understand the author's problem with a person like me. I require something, anything, to substantiate or validate in some microscopic way the huge claims he makes one after another. The basic scientific method is probably quite bothersome to him because it's just "one way" of accessing information. The other way is to apparently just believe anything the author writes without any solid evidence of anything. If you can do that "effectively", you my friend, are on the path to enlightenment!
