Review: The testimonies are enough to encourage me to commit to this diet. Of all the diets I've heard about from acquantainces this one stands out amongst any. Everyone I talk to thats been on this diet has said nothing but good things. If they can overcome eating a minimum of carbos I can! I will give another review once I've been on it a few weeks. As far as the book is concerned, I feel that Dr. Atkins gets his point across and the Ketosis affect certainly makes sense!

Review: This diet is not the miracle that so many claim it to be. Any diet is just an eating plan, nothing more. I have studied nutrition, and have a degree in both chemistry and biology. To deprive the human body of carbohydrates is harmful because the body's metabolism needs those carbohydrates to convert them into glucose, which is eventually turned into energy. Gluconeogenesis, the process of creating energy from non-carbohydrate sources, is extremely taxing on the body, and is meant only for times of extreme hardship. Many people on this diet live sedentary lifestyles. That is a dangerous thing in itself, but add a diet of eggs, meat, and cheese for almost every meal, and this diet turns into a death sentence. There is no miracle to losing weight. A balanced and moderate diet plus regular excercise is the only way to lose weight safely. I honestly think this diet is a cop-out for the millions of overweight Americans who don't want to go throught the "work" of living a healthy lifestyle. In that sense, Dr. Atkins has developed a very marketable product. Maybe I'll write a book on the fantastic weight- loss results of the methamphetamine/cocaine diet. No food, no sleep, buts lots of weight loss. Best of all, the patients love "doing" the diet. That'll be sure to sell!

Within 3 weeks my unmedicated sugar dropped from 292 to 85. I no longer take medication of any kind. As a side effect, I have also lost 30 pounds in 3 months. While the diet is not for everyone, the same can be said for the ADA pyramid (high carbohydrate, low fat). That diet would literally have killed me in another 5 years. For people with type II diabetes or morbid obeseity, this diet can be a life saver. Like any diet check with your doctor first.

It will be 7 weeks this Wed. since I started this diet. I have now lost 32 lbs.I was worried when I started because my cholestral was 208 and was curious on how the diet would effect my health. I had my cholestral taken 1 week ago and just got the results. It has actually lowered to 181.... This is GREAT news. My husband can not believe it, however the proof is in the numbers. I tell every one about this diet and have gotten many people to begin the program. They not only have my word on it, they also can see my results. My personal goal weight started out at 72 lbs. One that I thought would take forever. But I am almost half way there. I only have 40 lbs to go. Thank you Dr. Atkins.

I go to the same restaurants I've always patronized, and I do almost everything that I've done in the past. One positive side effect the diet has had is that I've cut way down on drinking alcoholic beverages. Now the good news: the tight size 38 pants I had to wear when I bought the book are neatly boxed up and waiting to be dropped off at the GoodWill Center. Whenever I need to go anywhere now, I wear my 34's. Pretty soon though, I'll need 32's. I love the diet. I have one question. I read in another book that on a diet such as this one you do not need to count carbo's that are dietary fiber grams. Does anyone out there have any advice on this?

Review: If you follow this diet you can be certain that you will lose weight. It is after all, a diet. You might as well just not eat--you'll lose weight that way too. The point is that there is a right way and a wrong way to try to gain control of your weight. This is one of the wrong ways. If you want to learn the right way I suggest the following text, used in introductory nutrition courses: "Nutrition : Concepts and Controversies" by Frances Sienkiewicz Sizer, Eleanor Noss Whitney.

Review: I was introduced to Dr. Atkins' book in October, and I have followed the plan very carefully. Since then, I have lost sixty-five pounds. I started out at 310 pounds on a 5'6" frame. I have felt great and full of energy. My blood pressure and cholesterol levels have dropped significantly. I went from at size 28 to a size 20 so far. I also suffered from hypoglocemia, but I have not had a single symptom since I began the diet. The book is easy to read and understand, and the recipes are delicious. I have a long way to go, but finally I know that I can make it!

Review: I can't believe this,,it is Saturday after noon April 17th 1999. On Tuesday afternoon a friend came over to tell me about the new diet she just started. She felt so possitive about this diet that she wanted to share it with me because she new I was feeling very very depressed about my weight for the last few months, like never before, and I did belong to a diet club. I said well it sounds good but this time I will read more about it before I commit...so I bought the book that afternoon..that night I decided to have a low carb dinner just for the heck of it, just in case I liked what I read I would prime myself. In the morning I ate a no carb breakfast and salad for lunch with ham..then finely I made time for the book.First I was so amazed to hear that carbs were poison to my body, that maybe my body was carb intolerant, just like people are lactose intolerant,,,that got me right away,,,,it was like you have a sickness and this is the answer. I was feeling good,,strong, lots of well power that day and I was so surprised I was not trying to resist urges to eat...Good I thought I am in a good frame of mind to start the diet if I decide. Well low and behold, the doctors book, says; and I may not say this right because I don't have the book with me right now but basicly it says he no longer believes in will power and emotional eating but that you are so satisfied with what you eat that you have no need to battle this out....Oh my gosh,,,I am satisfied, I am not having such a good day that I have will power..it's because I am so satisfied with what I ate. I read more and more and decided to start the diet in the morning...because my daughter walked through the door bringing me french fries and chicken (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and pop and donuts for dinner...I got up in the morning to weighed myself and I had lost two pounds...How shocked was I...Well that was thrusday Morning now this morning two days later I get up after truely following the diet and I lost 5 more pounds that is 7 in 4 days, two days not fully following.... I have never felt better,,,I now know what hungar and full fell like, and I don't crave foods...Praise God for Dr. Atkins. I am sure the weight won't come off this fast much longer but hey that is ok, great infact...I don't think even about food between meals and that is amazing...Thank you , Thank you, Dr Atkins.......

Review: I have been doing the Adkins diet for 7 mo. and have lost 55lbs. I am interested to know if anyone has tried his product to make bread? It is a bit expensive so please let me know if it is any good. A lot of the reviews mentioned people having back pain. I have also been experiencing that and am curious why. I take a multi-vit., chromium picolinate, and coenzyme Q. Am I missing something important? I am stuck in a rut. I havent been losing at all the last month or so. I am exercising 5-6 times a week with light weights and aerobics. Not sure what to do. Please write with suggestions.
