Summary: this diet stinks!
Review: I followed Dr Atkins advice for two months. Nothing but meat, cheese, eggs etc. This may sound like some kind of nirvana until you realise you can't eat buns with your burger (or fries), no taco shell with your taco, no base for your pizza, no bread for your sandwich...

I feel I was missing out more than ever on this diet. But worst of all my bad "ldl" cholestrol went up, i suffered from headaches and dizziness most days, my breath stank and i was always constipated.

Oh yes i lost some weight. And now i know why most people lose weight- you can only eat so much protein. By cutting off an entire food catergory you will, of course, lose weight- that's obvious.

But i can assure you there are much healthier and in the long term more effective ways of losing weight. This diet really does stink!!!

Summary: Tried JC, WW,HL,NL, and numerous other diets-THIS ONE WORKS
Review: Easy to read, easy to follow program. In 7 days, I have lost 8lbs., my husband has lost 10. We are both certain that we arecarbo-addicts! I personally have tried many of the recent diet program regimens including the recent Xenical drug, but found I was unsatisfied, hungry, and very aware I was "dieting". On this program, so far, I feel none of that. After the 3rd day on program, my appetite is greatly diminished and I do not feel deprived or hungry. If you want to find out if you too are addicted to carbohydrates - try this one for even a week, you'll be amazed!

Summary: Change of Life Style
Review: This diet represents a change in "life style" and a change in thinking for most Americans. I have successfully changed by life style and have lost 11 pounds in 2 weeks. I was instructed by my Doctor to 1) drink an extraordinary amount of water while on this diet, 2) take quality vitamin supplements, 3)continue to exercise, exercise, exercise... and 4) use this diet for 1 month, then use the maintenance phase for 1 month and if you need to lose additional weight, then go back onto the diet for another month. Apparently, the medical community is very concerned about people staying on the induction phase for an extended period of time. My Doctor admits that this change in diet works, however, he warns that if you return to your "old life style", you will find yourself right back on the diet yo-yo. He also recommeded that I read "Sugar Busters" to develop an eating life style which can be maintained over an individual's lifetime. The book needs an overhaul to make it flow better-the diet is very good.

Summary: Easy to follow and understand
Review: Dr. Atkins has spelled out the method for achieving permanent weight loss. Both my husband and I have followed this diet according to the outline in the book and have made remarkable progress. Anyone entering the weight loss arena should read this book from cover to cover and not begin the diet based on heresay information. Thank you for making this book available!

Summary: unhealthy Diet
Review: Try having gallstones. Then you'll really like this unhealthy diet. I have friends that are dieticians and can't believe what people will try. Ever hear of Ketosis? Go to a Nutritionist and get a healthy diet. You can lose weight only eating any food group but you won't be healthy.

Summary: 20 lbs. In Two Weeks!!
Review: Dr. Atkins is some kind of genius! His book is very easy to read and understand and within the last two weeks (the length of time I've been doing the diet) I've dropped 20 pounds! My body is MELTING away!! I eat ALOT too. But I've stuck very closely to the guidelines of what I eat! Steaks, cheese and mushroom omlets, salmon drenched in dejon sauce, bacon, I'm in heaven and getting thinner every day! I actually don't believe my scale some mornings but my old blue jeans don't lie!! I haven't fit into them for two years and I wore them all weekend comfortably!! This book and this diet really did it for me where all else has failed! I recommend it wholeheartedly!

Summary: Has me on the way to thin!!
Review: The only reason for not giving a 5 star rating, I felt the book lacked editorial quality, many contradictions and I would find some sentences requiring me to stop, slow down and reread them, still never made sense, HOWEVER! I have been on the diet for 3 weeks and have lost 12 pounds. I have not felt this much energy in years. I will say I did not stop my morning coffee (one cup) and still managed to lose! One note: Dr Atkins kinda looks like he should practice what he preaches!Good Luck if you decide to try this!!

Summary: 20 lbs and counting!
Review: I started this diet on Labor Day weekend and I have lost 20 pounds! This is the first diet that has actually motivated me to stay on it. The first week is tricky though; I felt terrible for the first 6 days and had serious sugar cravings.

Summary: give me some advice
Review: I haven't recieved my book yet but was on this diet for 12 days now. I lost about 6 lbs on first 7 days and so happy but for 5 days nothing is happening. Has this happen to anybody else? Am I being too impatient? I am eating only meats and eggs and practically less than 10 grams of carb each day. I think I need to increace my fat burning capacity but with what? pls e mail me. I still have 15 more lbs to go.

Summary: I had to completely "unlearn" all the old rules of dieting.
Review: I couldn't believe what I was reading half of the time. It was in direct opposition to everything we've been taught about healthy eating and dieting. Totally unnerved me to think I didn't have to count calories any longer.

I've been on the diet 6 days and I've lost 6 pounds, have more energy, and best of all, I no longer have the terrible fatigue and depression. That's the PLUS side. On the down side, today (the 6th day) I seem to be experiencing quite a lot of pain(discomfort) in the kidney regions (both sides). Low back pain and pressure. Also, at times I feel slightly faint and light-headed. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this. I read a good number of the letters on the web, but didn't see any reference to the above symptoms. If anyone out there would like to respond to this review if you have been experiencing the same symptoms, I would like to hear from you.

As a last resort, perhaps I'll try to phone Dr. Atkins, wherever he may be.
