Summary: Don't wait to read this book!
Review: I was and still am, very skeptical when it comes to diet regimens, because there ar so many! For years I scoffed at the Atkins diet, just as I had at all the rest. But, when you read this book, and begin to understand the science behind this diet, you will find that it makes sense. And Dr. Atkins gives you plenty of irrefutable research study to back it up. The best test, is for one to do as Dr. Atkins suggests, try the diet for 2 weeks. If you do the diet, exactly to the letter, the way it is layed out in the book....you will become a believer. This is the only diet to work for me, and when I have gone off of it, it is the easiest to get right back on and continue to see immediate results. DON'T WAIT! READ THIS BOOK!

Summary: 25 years on Atkins and still alive!
Review: I'm extremely carbo sensitive, insulin resistant. Atkins' Diet is important for those who've have parents, relatives with Type II diabetes. I feel better in ketosis. While I do eat carbos occasionally, after feeling lousy and gaining weight, back I'll go into ketosis. For those who have trouble with the diet, add l-glutamine. This amino acid helps with carbo withdrawal. If constipated, take psyllium husks. These plus more ideas are in the book. Many of the complaints I hear about the diet have easy solutions. I also have 25 years of excellent blood lipid results on a high fat, no/low carbo diet.

Summary: About the high fat stuff...
Review: Most people are afraid of this diet because of the 2 week induction diet that you start off with. First, you cut out almost all carbs (no more than 20g a day, which isn't a whole lot) and second, you eat lots of fat. That scares people. The reason you eat lots of fat is because ketosis (sign of heavy duty fat burning)works best when you have a high fat to carb ratio (more fat, less carbs). Hence the recommendation to eat more fat while doing the induction diet. The induction diet is extreme, that's why you only do it for two weeks. After that you gradually increase the carbs till you get to your ideal weight.

While the book doesn't specifically say so, I found that decreasing (gradually) the fat while increasing the carbs was a good mix, but I'm sure it will vary from person to person.

Anyway, don't be a chickens#$t about the fat. We're talking about eating fat (and using it as fuel), not wearing it. What do you think your anscestor's ate? Fatty meats or enriched, chemically augmented carbs?

And another thing: my cholestoral and blood pressure went DOWN. Go figure.

Summary: So Far, So Good!
Review: I am on a modified version of the Atkins diet, have been for two weeks. I'm what is classified as "morbidly obese", and have been terribly overweight for most of my life. Like most people, this diet seemed radical, contrary to everything we "know" about nutrition and I resisted my friend's urgings to try it. But finally, I decided that continuing the up-and-down, incredibly restrictive dieting of Weight Watchers and the like, which force you to starve yourself (why don't you go take a look at WW's drop-out and re-enrollment records?) wasn't getting me anywhere, I might as well try this for a while.

True, two weeks isn't much time, but I can tell you this: I have not been weighing myself (I believe that anyone who weighs themselves as a gauge of whether their diet is working is missing the point) and yet my watch, on the same settings it was on two weeks ago, now slips up and down my wrist. My waist isn't as pinched by the same setting of my belt that I used two weeks ago. And my co-workers have all remarked that I look like I'm losing weight. That's all the encouragement I need to continue. I've been carrying around a 1 gallon jug of water every day, and I finish it by the time I go to bed.

I've also read a book called "Neandrthin" and while it's even MORE restrictive (and doesn't allow for taking weekends off, which I need because I still like bread, in moderation) it details how the digestive system of man is set up for protien and fat, and that man began as a meat-eater until the age of agriculture, which introduced a lot of vegetable foods we had never eaten before. Take a look at the Eskimos - lowest heart disease rate in the world, and they eat tons of animal protien & fat. Look at sumo wrestlers... fattest men in the entire world, and the bulk of their diet is rice. That should be "food" for thought! I'm going to keep at this thing, because I'm becoming a believer.

Summary: Finally, an answer.............
Review: After MANY attempts at trying to lose weight, and becoming morbidly obese in doing so, I have found a way to eat good food, and NOT be hungry! Not only have I lost weight, but the fluid in my legs has disappeared - something I've battled for 15 years. My mood swings are gone, and my once "couch potato" existence has turned into scenes out of the Energizer Bunny commercials! All because I gave up carbohydrates? YES! It is amazing. I am forever grateful to Dr Atkins for continuing research despite all the critics. As an RN, I was taught that doctors and the AMA were doing us right by preaching and insisting on low-fat diets. Well, they are wrong! Carbs are the killers - NOT FAT! Picture a slender cave man who ate meats and vegetables - not white flour! I am just sorry I didn't know about this way of eating years ago. It would have changed my life sooner! :)

Summary: NOT FOR ME
Review: I gave Dr. Atkins a full month.. I never lost more than 5 pounds. The first week-and-a-half I felt absolutely awful. Headaches, exhaustion, nausea, even depression! The cravings were worst of all (never went away). But I stuck to it. My fiance did it with me. Our sex drive was dead for about 2 weeks. Here I am a month later.. unimpressed. I had my first bowl of pasta last night! ahhhh... forget Dr. Atkins!

Summary: A JOKE
Review: All of you...come on! You may lose weight but have any of you checked your blood pressure or cholesteral lately? To the woman who said she eats nothing but poultry, beef, eggs, cheese & bacon; it's a great diet for people who don't like vegetables; people can't believe I've lost weight eating this stuff.... All I can say is it's really not going to matter that you've lost weight on this so-called diet when you're dead from a heart attack!

Summary: Dr. Atkins is a genius!
Review: I have been overweight for at least the last 10 years. I have tried many diets and have been successful at losing weight but completely unable to keep it off. I was also miserable on all the low calorie low fat diets. Who can stay on that kind of a diet for life! I have been on Dr. Atkins diet for 2 and a half weeks and have lost 15 lbs! It was effortless. I was never hungry! On the low fat diets, I was obsessed with food. I don't even think about food on Dr. Atkins diet! I forget to eat sometimes! I should reach my goal weight by Christmas! Thanks Dr. Atkins!

Summary: Diet worked great the first week, then slowed the next week
Review: I didn't get the blood work done, but I feel better since starting the diet. The first week I was on the diet, I went from 243 to 225, WOW! Couldn't believe that I lost 18 pounds in one week. The second week I only lost 2 pounds down to 223. This week I'm only at 222, but I did start working out with weights and 3 times a week cardio, so I could be putting on muscle while I lose fat. I still feel good about losing 20 pounds in only 3 weeks. I have slept better since starting, and find I have more energy, so I started working out to use the extra energy. Biggest advantage has been the loss in inches, my face looks thinner, and I lost 3 inches around my waist. My wife and 3 co-workers are on this diet as well, so it is nice to have others to share you eating style and to have for encourgement. I recommend the book and hope others get similar results to what I have.

Summary: Excellent & Really Suitable for Meat Lovers
Review: I heard this diet when I visited LA 2 weeks ago. I have been trying a lot of diet and my weight is always like yo-yo. Starting last week I have been doing 14-Days Induction Diet. After 1 week I have lost 2 pounds. I am 5'4" 129 lbs. Now I am 127 lbs. I will continue my diet until I reach my ideal weight at 110 lbs.

During my diet day I eat beef, pork, chicken, duck, bacon, eggs, and cheese as much as I want. I eat with no limit. I never feel hungry because I always eat every time I am hungry. I don't eat carbohydrate, vegetables, and fruits at all. I don't feel that I am on a diet. My friends wonder how I can eat a lot but still loose weight. The answer is no carbohydrate.

This diet really works for me who is a meat lover and does not like vegetables at all.
