Summary: Depends on your body type.
Review: I found the book very successful and have lost 31 pounds so far. But it depends on your body type. I go to a Korean doctor that does body typing and his recommendations for my changes to my diet were very close to Dr. Atkins. So that's why it worked, but my husband and my oldest son are opposite to my body type and they need carbs, and they do much better. So I would recommend that if you feel more energetic when you don't eat much and when you eat much carbs, then it's worth considering this book.

Summary: No different than any other diet
Review: Based on the success of a friend losing over 100lbs on the Atkins diet, I decided to try it myself. I bought the book and carb counter, and read most of the book before I started.

Let me say now that while Atkins definitely works for some people, it is really NO DIFFERENT than being on a regular diet. If you didn't like counting calories and watching everything that went into your mouth on other diets, this diet is not any better. I was unable to sustain Induction--it was just too restrictive for me. I craved fruits and vegetables too much after a couple of days to tolerate it--and I am not normally a big vegetable eater.

Also, I was a bit disgusted at the amount of supplements and additional vitamins this man wants us to take along with the diet--as many as 4-6 pills three times daily. If this diet is so good for us, why are we taking all these supplements? I hate taking pills anyway, but I usually manage 1 or 2 vitamins daily.

However, I must say that the Ongoing Weight Loss phase (Phase 2) is very easy to tolerate, and I am VERY slowly (7lbs in 4 weeks) losing weight on that part of it. It is basically eliminating bread and sugars, and limiting vegetables and fruits. While I am a fruit lover, so to do that part is difficult, the rest is pretty easy for me and I am not at all hungry. For someone that cannot do low-fat, low-calorie diets for more than a day or so, that is something.

Summary: Good health and weight loss
Review: I am excited about the weight that I have and continue to lose with the Atkins program. what excites me even more is my new found health, fitness and vitality. Before Atkins, I had no energy and couldn't even walk around the block. Even walking up a small flight of stairs got me easily winded. Now I walk 2-3 miles per day around a beautiful lake. On other days I do moderate weight training and some aerobic exercise at the gym. Sometimes I'll drive to the beach and walk up and down the boardwalk for variety.I read an article that stated that every extra pound of fat requires 4,000 extra feet of blood vessels to nourish (no wonder I was always tired before dropping 30 lbs.!!) and you will die 6 months to 1 year earlier for every extra 10 lbs of weight. With Atkins, it's not just about losing weight, it's about feeling better and living longer. And I don't miss the carbohydrate foods at all. My energy level has soared. Heartburn is gone. I kicked the coffee habit as well as my favorite snacks of chocolate chip cookies.I used to eat fruit every morning for a quick pickup. I quit that too and don't feel so bloated anymore. No more gas. The oatmeal and even worse, cold cereals that I used to consume have been replaced with bacon and eggs or a egg and ham on a muffin. I tried the Atkins shakes, but prefer real food. Occasionally if I am in a hurry, I'll make a shake with 4-6 ice cubes and sip it on my way to a sales call.I am grateful to Atkins for not only giving me my high school weight and physique back, but my health, wellness and fitness as well.

Summary: ...but I'm vegetarian
Review: I tried it and I failed after 3 weeks, because... I don't eat meat or poultry. Although I eat a bit of fish, this gets very expensive and the alternative-eggs, eggs, eggs-don't entertain the tastebuds for too long.

Vegs: It is possible to do this diet, but it takes a bit more thinking since recipes are not as abundant and the emphasis on meat in the text is very strong.

In the meantime, I'm stocking up on canned tuna until Dr. Atkins writes one for folks like me.

Summary: This diet works - FACT
Review: There are a lot of words coming from the nutrionist out there that don't make sense. Dr. Aykins and Barry Sears are showing us the truth through real weight loss. I and my of my friend really have some lots of weight on this diet.

Great book outline why, what, and how. In great detail.

Summary: sick of eggs
Review: I bought the book after seeing a friend whom I hadn't seen in almost a year. She looked incredible! Over 4 inches of fat were gone from her arms and she was 119 pounds (down from 160 lbs). I practice martial arts up to 8 hours a week, but I could not seem to stop eating carb rich foods and the weight constantly went up. Inspired by my friend, and warned, I am now far into the 'induction' stage of the Atkins system. She warned me that it was not an easy diet and many people could not do it. Well, I am doing fine but I cannot stand the thought of another egg for breakfast! The induction stage is hard for an old pasta, pizza and veggi eater. Meat almost makes me sick to look at now. But... I really *do* feel full faster and I do not crave the foods I used to. I even went to a festival with food every where and hardly thought about it. It works, but the induction stage is hard. Book is not well organized.

Summary: Cursed By Twinkies
Review: Dr. Atkins' "New Diet Revolution" is a great book, very well thought out, and meticulously detailed. He is consumed with the idea that there is too much insulin running around in the arteries of us less-than-skinny people. A review of my diet based upon the guide in this book has led me to believe that he may be on to something. Fortunately, there is no history of diabetes in my blood family, but there is a well documented history of being shaped like a human pear with legs. I tried my best with the ideas set forth here, particularly with the rather dull but palateable recipes and the quaffing of whole bathtubs full of bottled water. The results have been moderate, but positive (or negative actually). I am now down 12 pounds from my usual weight of 265 (although prone to living and sleeping in the bathroom). The meals have been filling and the daily walks refreshing, but I am cursed by Twinkies, beef jerky, and porter. Just when the day is near done and I settle before the TV for the 10:00 showing of Baseball Tonight, the cravings begin. My belly has a mind of it's own and by the third update, it has overrun my brain and forced me to plod over to the kitchen. There, my faithful carbohydrate banes quickly undo what Dr. Atkins had worked on all day. Willpower (or lack of it) is the scourge of the nation's army of dieters and I, The Dipper, am the commanding general. I recommend this book highly to anyone with more determination than I, but take solace in a 17th-century English drinking song, "He that drinks strong beer and goes to bed mellow, lives as he ought to live and dies a hearty fellow". Maybe there's hope for me yet.

Summary: The Pyramid Lie
Review: Ever since grade school we have all been taught that the food pyramid is the way to go, the healthy way of eating. After reading 'The New Diet Revolution', you come to understand the foolishness of our ways. The book goes into exact detail on how our eating habits over the past 30 years have contributed to the demise of our health. Carbohydrates, such as breads and pastas, were once the foundation on which this pyramid was built, but now the truth is revealed that they are really the culprits in our ever losing battle with weight loss. We as Americans are the most overweight country in the world, yet we still teach our children the same pyramid lie. For anyone who wants to know the truth about weight loss and is serious enough to regain control of their health, I strongly recommend this book as the beacon to lead your way out of obesity. I myself am very impressed with the progress I have shown and it has only been a week. Begin your journey to happiness and ignore all the misinformation out there, and be sure to read the New York Times article. If anything will convince you it will be all the scientific evidence it provides to validate this nutritional approach. Good luck and happy eating!

Summary: I'm now a size 2, thanks to the Atkins way of eating!!
Review: This diet has taken me, at age 23 & 5'3", from 141 pounds & a size 10 . . . to 110 pounds & a lithe, athletic size 2. After YEARS of exercising every day, lifting light weights regularly, dutifully counting calories, & getting absolutely NOWHERE, I tried Atkins 11 months ago - and I will never again go back to the nonsense I did before.

This book is wonderful & has truly changed my life. In fact, I just bought the new 2002 edition & plan on rereading it during my Jury Duty summons tomorrow! haha

I've even gotten my husband's Dominican father dying to read this book en espaƱol . . . we ordered it off Amazon last week, & he's reading it now. What a wonderful way of eating this is!!!

Summary: Don't jump on this bandwagon
Review: This is one of the worst (in terms of health) diets you can ever go on. See how much good it did the author. Ketosis is NOT a healthy state.

If you like pseudo-science, then buy into all this.

The only "secret" is that this is yet again another low-calorie diet. That is the only reason you lose weight. Period. Basic. No magic to it.
