Rating: Summary: I love this diet! Review: I gave it one star to educate all the ppl looking at the bad side of this diet. So all of u hillbillies who think ur all smart cuz u heard about the diet, maybe u should re-educate yourself. You dont know how the diet works, and you've never tried it, or you have and you did it wrong. Because this diet works.#1 - I lost 23 lbs in the first month, lowered my chloresteral, and i feel fantastic #2 - My new young doctor loves it, in fact preaches it, because it is in fact sugar that makes us fat! Yes, fruit and starchy vegetables are banned the first phase, but you re-add them in later, so you end up with a healthy, sugar-free diet. #3 - Fat doesn't MAKE you fat. If so, how come americans have consumed 60% less fat over the last 20 years, and yet, we are almost 3 times as obese? This diet is paving the way for a better future...

Rating: Summary: The most successful diet program of all time!!!! Review: Dozens of diets, fads and gimmicks abound, but how many have the success rate or the longevity of Atkins? Answer: Only Atkins! Atkins has been around now for over 30 years and for 1 reason it works. People are worried about the fat in the Atkins program but go around eating potato chips, frendh fries and ice cream? C'mon! I lost 48 lbs initially with Atkins a few years ago and have maintained it. While losing weight, I gained muscle, filled out my figure, lost in major fat areas; waist, hips and thighs. While on the program, I didn't feel like I was on a diet. I felt like I was having a feast each and every day. My skin tone also improved. Energy soared. I went from a couch potato to starting a mild exercise program of walking now I'm pumping iron too and doing more advanced exercises, cardio and spot training. I know people will say it's the exercise. And that would be only partly true. I lost 48 lbs without any exercise at all, just Atkins. The exercise part came because I wanted to firm up and improve my condition and health. I highly recommend the Atkins diet. It is simply the best and most successful fat loss program of all time. Dr Atkins, RIP.
Rating: Summary: Will Absolutely Lose you weight Review: There is absolutely no question that the Atkin Diet will cause you to lose weight - and lose weight fairly quickly. In fact, it is almost magical - filling yourself with meat, fats, cheese, butter, cream - and the pounds shed off. In addition, some of the advice (eliminating processed carbs and sugars) is very sound - and has long term nutritional benefits. However, this diet is really designed for the sedentary. An easy way to lose weight if you can't be bothered with an OVERALL healthy lifestyle that combines both elements of diet AND exercize. You CAN do this diet in isolation, and lose a bunch of weight fast . . . and eat all the fat you want. I know Atkins talks about the importance of exercize combined with his diet - but from experience of not just me, but many others with whom I have talked, if you're athletic, or do strenous workouts, with the no carb approach (even unprocessed Carbs like Potatoes and Bananas are taboo for the most part), there is absolutely no way you'll be able to do this diet and maintain the same level of physical performance you did before. This is especially true during the first couple of weeks when, essentially, you are allowed zero carbs - processed or otherwise. If you want to both lose weight AND improve your endurance and athletic performance - read "Eat to Win."
Rating: Summary: Very popular book! Review: Everyone is reading this book. No book will cure all the problems with diabetes, obesity, etc. However, the approach here is scientifically sound. If millions of them used the Atkins way and worked, then there is merit to the system. My question is, how can a person, who is under weight but with high triglycerides, benefit from this book?
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Wonderful Review: I'm the type of person that has to follow things to the letter. I bought this book and read the whole thing before starting my diet. I followed the program exactly as I was told. My results were -16 pounds in two weeks. I could not believe that I was actually succeeding in this diet. I didn't go past those two weeks, though because the hardest part of this diet is the first five days, and after that, it's fairly easy. There were two things required in the diet that I simply could not provide any longer, that was money (it was costing me at least 50 dollars a week in groceries alone, and that's a lot for me because I'm only 17 and working part time), and it needed time. I spent at least 2-3 hours a day cooking the meals I had to eat, and that is just too much time for me because I was in school and working. A lot of people say that this diet doesn't work. They are saying this because they are doing one of two things: 1) They aren't following the diet the way it is laid out in the book. The book tells you right from the beginning that it has to be followed exactly, there can not be any "Just one small taste"-s to it. They also think that just because it is a carb controlled diet that it means that they can have ANY type of carbs, so long as it's under the daily limit. This isn't true either. There are four phases to the diet, and each phase you gradually start to eat certain carbs again. I plan to only stay on the first phase, Induction because it's the phase where you lose the most weight. In Induction, you are ONLY suppose to be getting your carbs from LEAFY GREEN VEGETABLES. No matter how many times I try to tell this to people, they still think that it's okay to have a small bag of chips or a prepackaged bagle because the carb count is low. 2) They lose the weight they want and then go off the diet just to be discouraged to gain the weight back. That's with any diet, it's just common sense. People tend to think that because this diet makes you lose weight fast that it's magical and you will keep the weight off if you go off the diet. NOT TRUE. Even if you exercise non stop, if you don't continue with the diet, you will gain the weight back. I read this book and followed the program exactly. Others have too. A lot of people do the diet that they want to do, and interperate the words loosely and then get angry when they see no results. Wake up and smell the protein, One-Star-Raters.
Rating: Summary: A 30 year old fad???? Review: I have to chckle when I read reviews like the individual that referred to the Atkins diet as nothing more than a fad. If it is a fad, it's the longest running fad that I have ever heard of now running for over 30 years. Also this program when followed correctly will not make you feel weak. You should feel a surge of energy as your body burns up stored fat for energy.Lastly, any weight gain will be muscle, not fat. Forget the scale, take your measurements, take a few photo's and check yourself in the mirror and how your clothes feel. Atkins is the best diet ever, when used as instructed.
Rating: Summary: Feelin' mighty good! Review: So the diet works for some/not for others! Any surprise? Thank God there are people always putting new information forward. For me, and I stress for me, this is not a diet but a new way of eating! ATKINS IS WORKING, for me! I have tried every diet plan/vitamin program that has come down the pike. Low fat plans that left me hungery and eating food that resembled cardboard at best. I used recommended vitamins that are supposed to curb my appetite and help me lose weight. [...] This eating plan is simple, creative and healthy! Bored by "too much of the same foods"???? Try getting a Low Carb cookbook here. Losing momentum? Try going to the many low carb chat rooms online and get remotivated daily! But for Pete's sake, find something that works for you! My energy level has gone through the roof. And even though the needle on my scale hasn't moved a great deal, my clothes sure look & fit better and I have a spring in my step! I even got my husband on it. He was only about 10 pounds or so overweight, but his "center of gravity" had shifted. In just a couple of weeks he lost his "spare tire" and feels like he can keep with this plan! I don't crave the carbs like I did and no longer feel possessed by the "Sugar Devil"! I wish everyone success in your "health" journies! Bless you Dr. A!
Rating: Summary: nothing more than a fad Review: i tried this diet a few years ago and not only did it make me considerably fatter, but i felt very unhealthy. it made me feel as though all the aerobic exercise i was getting wasn't working anymore. i got winded walking up stairs and was constantly tired, vapid, and sluggish. i figured a diet which praises high protien intake can only be good for my weight training regimen, but i only felt weaker on this diet. and i made sure i followed it perfectly. something doesn't seem right about fad diets that de-emphasize healthy exercise and tell you to completely exclude certain foods or whole food groups.
Rating: Summary: This book is bloated Review: The diet has been an effective weight loss tool for my husband and I. However, Atkins constantly damages his own credibility with commentary about allergies, Nutrasweet, and other health issues that he seems unqualified to discuss. Skip those parts. Instead, try the induction diet and work out a "maintenance" plan for yourself involving less sugar and less refined grains.
