The truths are: 1) Yes, if you follow it exactly, there's no hunger. 2) Weight loss happens quickly. HOWEVER, the initial loss is mostly water and it's easy to get dehydrated. The downsides to this diet (and for me they were all reasons not to do it) are: I felt awful! I had NO energy at all, I couldn't even work out. I was constipated all the time. The diet gives you very bad breath, too! I got really sick of eating high-fat, greasy food all the time. There's way too much meat, cheese and butter in this diet for my tastes. As soon as I ate some carbs again I felt 100% better. I suspect this diet will work for the very overweight and those with a carbohydrate intolerance. For people looking to lose 20 lbs or less, don't do this diet.

Review: I have been on this diet for two weeks and have lost 15 pounds. Review: My doctor strongly recommended that read this book and start the diet, so I found it, read it, and began my Atkins Diet dieting experience on 03/06/98. By 04/06/98, I had lost 15 pounds -- without feeling hungry at any time other than the couple of times I was so busy that I actually forgot to eat! The receipes and menu suggestions in Dr. Atkins' book taste great! I am having such good success with the diet that I have been recommending the book to everyone I know who is overweight, whether they have 5 or 50 pounds to lose. I have more energy than I had before I began the diet and started losing weight, and I have taken up exercising regularly. While beginning to lose weight has of course not cured my arthritis, my load-bearing joints are feeling better.

Review: I am a 15 year old girl who has been on the diet for 2 months. I have tried several diets, including the low-fat, high-carb diet all the doctors advocate. That has worked for me in the past, but as a teen, I crave immediate results, which I didn't get from that diet. On the Atkins plan, however, I have lost 25 pounds and have reached my target weight of 110 pounds. My friends saw how fast I lost weight and some of them are on it, and they all love it. I would defenitely recommend this to anybody!

Review: I lost 45lbs after 6 months and then gained 60 after being off of it only 6 months. I also had many other doctors suggest to me that as a healthy woman it would not be good for my kidneys, heart, and liver. Of course I stuck to it and if any person sticks to a diet they are going to do well. I think that it is a dangerous diet and people should be aware of that fact. I can no longer eat meat since that diet, the very smell makes me nauseous. There is no miracle in the diet world. It is us dieters that make it work not the doctors. Any diet will work if you work it. My brother-in-law lost 60 pounds by just eating baked potatoes and never ate an ounce of meat. We will all keep struggling until we learn to stop overeating, especially myself. And Dr. Atkins will keep on selling vitamins and books. What he does best.

Review: When my doctor told me that "everyone with my cholesterol ratio has a heart attack and half will make the hospital," I became worried and started taking cholesterol medicine. When I heard about this diet, I decided to try it and I took myself off the medicine. My ratio went from 7.1 to 4.8 and I lost 15 pounds. That was two years ago. I have never taken the medicine again. My total cholesterol went from 219 to 168 and the ratio remains the same. I love this diet.

Review: Got the book and within three days was feeling better and more energetic than I had in a long time. Changing to the low carbo way of eating completely did away with my mid-afternoon sluggishness. I have been more alert and have lost a total of 12 pounds to date -- it's been about 3 1/2 weeks on the plan. It is great! The best thing is the no hunger part of it.

The low carb diet has truly been a lifesaver for me. I have lost 64 lbs in the last 10 months following this plan, and I have never felt better. I have more energy that I have had in 20 years. I feel like a kid again, and all my other vital signs are improving too, cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar. I have tried and failed on other diets many times over the last 25 years. Review: I also experienced heart palpitations. I'm a 34 year old female, 5' 5", beginning weight 132, current weight 125. I lost only 7 lbs on this diet, but my cholestrol level is now at a life-threatening level.
