Summary: I am a believer!
Review: After being overweight for 20+ of my 42 years, I have tried all kinds of diets, including Phen-Fen and low fat diets. Yes, I lost weight on most of them, but felt deprived and hungry. Dr. Atkins' diet has been easy, I lost 20 lbs in one month. I am not even tempted by sweets or breads anymore. I haven't felt so energized in the last 20 years. I am sleeping like a teenager, a solid 8+ hours a night, which is amazing considering I had sleep apnea before starting the diet. My blood pressure is down and I feel great. I strongly recommend this book, follow the diet, it works.

Summary: Still Going Strong
Review: WOW!!! I have lost a total of 32 lbs and My Husband has lost 42. We feel wonderful The average weight loss is about 2 lbs a week. I have started to exercise hoping it will promote faster results. What a wonderful diet. I have tried them all including Redux. This is the best. Good Luck to anyone trying it. Follow the rules. do not cheat.

Summary: Good book! Is there a site to go along with it for q&a's?
Review: I am a 32 year old female that has tried all sorts of diets - obviously with no long term success. I read and went on Dr. Adkin's diet about 2 weeks ago and have lost 8 pounds and feel great! My only question/concern is that for the past 6 days I haven't lost anymore weight. I use the Lipolysis Testing Strips and they ARE turning purple - guess it's not a ketosis problem. For any of you out there that have been on this diet and perhaps have experienced this, would you please e-mail me with your comments? Also, is anyone aware of a web site that has questions & answers regarding the Dr. Adkin's diet? I've read a lot of interesting things just from these reviews. Thanks for any help you can give and good luck to all who decide to try this diet... :)

Summary: A must read for fellow dieters!
Review: Finally someone comes out with some REAL advice. I had been struggling with my weight for years. I've never been "fat", just heavier than I should be. However, the less I ate, the heavier I got! I heard about this diet from 2 different friends who said they and their friends were "Dropping the weight like crazy!" So...I bought the book. I wanted it to move alot faster, as I was anxious to get to the actual "Diet". But, now I know why he seems to go on and on at times. I have been on the diet a week and a day and have REALLY lost 11 pounds! My husband shook his head at first, now I TURN his head again! The ketosis sticks help alot. You can stay on track, even on those days when you stayed the same. You can see that you are still burning fat. I could never figure out why the canned shake diet never worked for me. Now I look at the can, it's loaded with Carbohydrates!Thank you Dr. Atkins from the bottom of my heart! For all you skeptics out t! here, read the book!

Summary: Lose Weight, Die Young
Review: This book is a dangerous presciption for losing weight. Dr. Atkins recommends a high-fat diet made up of protein and fat, with as little carbohydrate as possible. This flies in the face of the overwhelming majority of scientific studies on diet and health. High protein is an invitation to kidney damage; a high fat diet (including generous amounts of saturated fat and cholesterol) promotes arterioschlerosis and heart attack or stroke.

Several people who have followed this diet report problems with dizziness, vomiting, loss of energy, and fainting. Sound encouraging?

If you want to lose weight permanently and lower your risk of heart disease and cancer, consider following the exact opposite of what is recommended in this book. Namely, a primarily vegetarian diet low in fat, moderate in protein, and high in complex carbohydrates. I'd suggest checking out a few other books here at Amazon.com: * Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease * Dr. Neal Barna! rd. Eat Right, Live Longer or his previous book, Food for Life * Dr. Andrew Weil. Natural Health, Natural Medicine.

Summary: Give it a try!
Review: After 14-days I'm still going and getting more enthused every day! I've lost 9lbs. in 14-days and the ketos sticks really help you SEE it working. The plan is easy to follow, even for a carbo-junkie like me.

I found the book informative, but better as a reference than a straight read. I agree with the other readers who felt Dr. Atkins came off as a bit defensive. He spent a lot of time trying to defend his plan rather than detailing how to use it. The important thing is that it is easy to follow, and it is working!

I have also read Protein Power, by Drs. Eades and found that book is an easier read. I refer to both of them and recruited a friend to try this program with me. We are both doing EXTREMELY well and the plan seems to get easier as the days pass.

I would recommend this program to anyone who has tried every other diet and failed. This is one I am confident I can stick with!

Summary: Great new perspective on staying thin and healthy for life!
Review: 6 people in my office, including myself, have read this book and followed this "diet". We have lost an average of 33.3 lbs each in 12 weeks, and are still going strong. Moreover, my HDL ("good") cholesterol increased so much that my general practitioner asked me for the name of this book! I suffer from reactive hypoglycemia, which means that my body sends out too much insulin in response to carbohydrate intake. I have had no bad "sugar lows" when I was following the "diet" properly. Another lady in my office has serious heart and circulation problems, and was put on this diet by her cardiologist; she is now 30 lbs lighter and is off almost all of her medications!

Some people think Dr. Atkins is a quack, but I think that the results we've seen speak louder than his critics. I've seen "dyed in the wool" skeptics become converts.

Read the book and follow it to the letter! If he says to take vitamin & mineral supplements (particularly potassium, do it! If he tells you to drink a lot of water, do it! Buying the "ketostix" (found in any pharmacy) also helps a great deal both psychologically and physically, because you can track your progress. This is particularly helpful if you are exercising. You will be converting fat tissue into muscle tissue (7x heavier than fat), so you will not see results in how your clothes are fitting, but not on the scale. When you see the Ketostix turn color, however, you KNOW that you are burning off fat!

Summary: Sugar Free!... this diet is for me.
Review: Dr. Atkins diet is easy and fun. I am enjoying eating foods I have avoided for years. However, reading Dr. Atkins book was not easy and fun. I found myself skipping thru pages of meaningless words in order to read the basic facts of this diet. I read a two page article in Woman's World last week which detailed the diet better than the book.

My Results: 12 days - 8lbs = success

Summary: This was the worse diet I have ever tried.
Review: I read Dr. Atkins weight loss book twice. I decided to give it a try. High fat, proteins, no carbos. Within 5 days I was deathly sick and vomiting. I had no energy and was having dizzy spells. My body had went into ketosis (something that sould only be done under a Doctors care in the hospital. Finally ate a bowl of oatmeal and within minutes felt a 100% better. Five days of high fat did nothing towards weight loss but was great towards gaining weight!! I had great pleasure burning this book.

Summary: The book is wordy, and confusing but the diet really works.
Review: I have lost over 25 pounds following the diet...but the wisdom was imparted to me in five minutes by a friend. For breakfast eggs and bacon...lunch chicken or a cheeseburger and no roll...and dinner as much protein as you like and four onces of salad. Follow for two weeks and you will lose weight...Atkins is more detailed and rationalizes the insulin issues around obesity...having had an overweight problem for years I now am thiner, have more energy,and count carbohydrate grams versus calories...the book takes you through the process and the system works.
