Summary: DIET WORKS BUT BAD BREATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I've been on the diet for 10 days, Went into ketosis in less than 48 hours, lost 3/4 inch off my waist & lost 6 pounds. My energy level is about the same as before. I have chronic acid reflux (GERD) and it's symptoms have lessened considerably since I started the diet, so I am sleeping better. The Ketostix keep getting darker, so I know that everything is working on course. Is anyone else out there experiencing severe bad breath besides me? My wife says my breath can kill a fly at 3 feet! Breath Assure tablets do nothing for it. I found nothing in the book about this, but I assume ketones must inherently smell awful. My urine stinks too, and ketones leave one's body through breath and urine so it makes sense that they are the offenders. Has anyone else experienced this? Please e-mail me if you've had a similar experience. Also, I've heard that the diet can cause liver damage if you aren't careful. Otherwise thumbs up! Look forward to hearing from anyone with info or a parallel experience. Thanks.

Summary: I think this diet is just what many people need
Review: For 10 years had made the decision never to diet again but since reading this book I believe I had to change how I eat. I'm not as strict with the fruit and vegetables has Dr. Atkins suggests but have cut out all sugar and refined flour products. Of course I am losing wieght but as an unexpected health benefit I no longer has the constant heartburn that I had been living with every day!

Summary: This diet may not be for everyone
Review: I thought the book was poorly written and that Dr Atkins spent way too much time defending himself. I have also read Eat Right For Your Type which deals with the four different bloodtypes and how they should eat. The people who complain about intense nausea and not losing weight on the high protein and high fat diet may be type A's and AB's who according to Dr D'Adamo wouldn't benefit from this diet. I have just started the diet and being a type O should have no trouble on it.

Summary: Certainly the #1 Diet
Review: I tried this diet in 1977 and am once again on it. Living in India makes it difficult to access a great deal of the products that probably make this diet a breeze ! We manage , especially with soya flour substituting for bread (get a bread making machine). Irrespective of the AMA opinion, all my blood counts improved, lost weight, and felt really good. Carbohydrates are addictive, and the level of sugar we consume each day is unreal - the worst culprits being alcoholic beverages, and carbonated drinks. Without realising it you are on your way to being a sugar junkie. I would say, most healthy people should check it out too - if any anything it breaks your mindless and reckless habit of pouring posion down your throat.

Summary: The Magic Bullet For Weight Loss
Review: I went on the diet about 6 weeks ago. Since then I've lost exactly 30 pounds. I started the diet weighing 297 pounds and now weigh 267. I try to exercise at least 30 minutes 5 times each week by walking/hiking. You will notice that your energy level will be slightly lower WHEN YOU EXERCISE since your sugar stores are used up and your burning fat. Check your ketones during the evenings you exercise and you will prove it to yourself. This is the concept of the diet. Moderate execise over a longer duration is the answer on this diet. I've been on several diets and almost gave up and decided to leave the weight on until I thought I would try this diet as a last resort. Fortunately, I have a doctor with an open mind who actually understands the concepts of the diet and gave me the OK as long as I feel good and check in with him. I'm going to have my cholesterol checked in late September. I'm expecting good things. This is a great diet, but you have to like meats, cheeses and other things that most diets don't permit. For the weight loss, I'm sticking to under 30 grams of carbs per day and I take several vitamins (don't skip them or you could hurt yourself). Good luck to those who try it - you'll do well if you stick to it. It's a scientific certainty based on the way your body works! It really is the answer for me and I hope it works for you too!

Summary: THIS BOOK HAS CHANGED MY LIFE !!!
Review: Although this diet may not be for everyone, I LOVE IT!! I started in April of this year at a size 22 and as of last month I reached my goal size - 10 !!!! I have incredible amounts of energy and feel great about the way I look. I have always had problems losing weight, this plan was easy and the results were QUICK!! I encourage anyone with a REAL weight problem to read the book completely and be comfortable with the plan prior to starting it. However, if you are just looking to lose 10 - 15 lbs. this is not the diet for you. GOOD LUCK !!!

Summary: Feeling Great and Looking better!
Review: I started this diet May 22, 1998. Weighing in at 172 lbs, 5'2", I was desperate to try it. After trying all sorts of stuff, I was washed out on "DIETS". Now it is September 3, 1998, and I am weighing in at 144 lbs. I have increased my exercise to 5 days a week of aerobics at least 45 minutes a day. The symptoms many people have shared, I experienced too! But I got through them. The one sympton that I can not relate to is the lack of energy. I did increase my water intake to 64 oz a day, and the 1st day I miss the target of at least 32 ozs, I can feel it the next day. One sympton that I encountered and overcome was the muscle cramping associated with the increase of exercise. I added in Potasium and Magenism and feel great. Those of you of are a lil leary of this diet, please read the book throughly not just once, but twice. It works, and the concept is simple. Since my eye catching results, several people at my office are on this, and have experienced great results. I am truly thankful for this discovery and so is my Husband. Keeping in touch with the ketostix testing has really kept me encouraged. I have to admit, I have ate off the diet a few times, but have not fallen off the weight reduction. Another big issue I experienced, is the inch loss. I noticed that more in the first month than anything. Keep the faith.

Summary: IT WORKS!!
Review: I wrote a reveiw back in June stating my husband and I started it and he lost 9lbs and I quit. Well it is Sept. and my husband has gone off and on it and has lost 15 lbs. I started again 5 days ago and have lost 5lbs. TAKE VITAMINS!! My husbands cholesterol is 186 afer being on the diet for 3 months.

My mom started it about three weeks ago and has lost 15 lbs. She has seen a cardiologist and he wants her to continue. She has been on several medications for diabetes and she went off them. Her Glucose levels have stabalizued at a normal level. A friend of mine went on it and her choleterol went from 266 to 184!! Her Dr. told her to stay on it. My brother has lost 42lbs in 3 months. He still has about 30 more to go!! Dr. Atkins says eat 20 grams of carbs or less. I have been eating 20-30 and am still losing. I found the first part of the book boring. After you get to the Induction Diet the book gets better.

Summary: Update to my review
Review: I just wanted to add to this reveiw, that since March 28, I am now down to 234 pounds, and still losing. I'm more on the OWL part, and find that I still feel good, and am still losing, only slower.

rschiera@shore.intercom.net from Maryland , March 28, 1998 What Atkins can do for you... I started this diet on June 29, 1997. I weighed in excess of 425 pounds, and I'm 5' 7" tall. Today, March 28, 1998, I weigh 262 pounds. I started this diet witha 66 inch waist, now it's 46". My sport coat size went from 62 to 50. I eat when I'm hungry, eat foods I like, and don't have a problem sticking to the diet. I found that I'm not tempted to breads or other starches, they really don't smell or taste that good anymore. My doctor was very against this diet, but since he's seen ho much weight I've lost, it's hard to deny the fact that it works. I take multvitimins to offset the unbalanced nature of the diet, but do not find that I'm overly tired. I really don't see a problem with changing my eating habits to make this work. It sure works better than any other diet that I've tried. The current low fat, high carbo diet that AMA endorses just isn't for me. I can't say enough good things about it! If anyone wants to exchange receipes email me!

Summary: Good diet for someone who doesn't want to cut calories.
Review: It is an easy read, and contains logical and detailed arguments for a low carb diet. I am using it, and must admit that I do not feel hungry all the time anymore, and am beginning to lose the lbs I have always had trouble losing and keeping off (even WITH exercise). The diet itself is easy to implement, and there is enough variety in the foods to keep you on it. My criticisms are: 1) that I don't think there is enough emphasis on maintaining an exercise program in conjunction with the diet. 2) There seems to be an over reliance on multivitamins to supplement the diet. Bottom line: This is a must try for anyone who has ever given up on ultra low calorie diets, or just can't seem to lose that extra 10 lbs, even while exercising.
