Summary: What an eye opener! AND it works too!
Review: I was skeptical upon opening Dr. Atkins book, but what he said made sense! Our country is getting fatter by supposedly eating LOWER fat! I gave it a try, and have lost 16# EASILY since January 1 (now March 19). My cravings are gone, and life is fun again! Thank you Dr. Atkins!

Summary: WHERE's the BEEF?
Review: I've been on the diet and lost a bit after following it carefully. Have not experienced loss of cravings, and am still concerned about not eating the healthy carbs. What I am most curious about is the evidence for the diet. Atkins claims many successes, but cites no research evidence conducted through these cases, only older research and a lot of defensive writing about the attacks against him. The research presented doesn't paint a complete picture, and doesn't directly show any comparisons with other successful and healthy diets. Asking around to health professionals and reading around, I find those saying the diet is bad to never cite any research. Is there any research comparing this diet to others, or showing its 'negative' effects? The comments here seem to show a significant number of adverse cases. Also, many of Atkins recommendations are contrary or just don't make sense. E.g. aspartame's dangers, and what's with Orange soda being the only non-diet soda that's o.k.? The protein bread is absolutely awful, and stevia is hard to find and from the recipes sounds even harder to use.

Summary: Can't exercise much on this diet
Review: I am a middle to long distance runner (25-35 miles of jogging a week with one long run of 10-13 miles) and I have found that this diet simply does not give me the energy to run any sort of distance beyond about five miles. In fact, the only good run I have had (13 miles) since I went on this diet three weeks ago was on a "day off" when I had some toast for breakfast. I have gotten very frustrated with my lack of progress after three weeks (only lost five pounds and running alot) and tried to run ten miles today having fasted for 24 hours. It was ugly, but the scale said I lost three pounds. The book gives no guidance on this subject and the Atkins web site begs the question by stating that if you are a "serious athlete" which I do not really think I am you will not need to lose weight and so do not need to be on this diet. However, I do/did need to lose 18 pounds, and even given my exercise level, the weight will not come off. I'd like to hear from anyone else who has had luck on this diet doing endurance exercise as to how they did it. I feel that the only choice I have at this point is to go off the diet on my long run days which puts me back to square one and is no doubt the reason why I have not lost weight. It would be nice to know if there was a good way to modify it. On the other hand, the diet is reasonably easy to follow as long as I can resist grabbing the kids' strawberries out of their hands. It would also be nice to hear from people who have kept the weight off for at least a year as to how they did it.

Summary: An informative and successful answer to my overweight proble
Review: I always thought that my 'overwieghtness' was hereditary and it would never change...but after two weeks in Hawaii at christmas, in a bathing suit-it had to change. While vacationing I purchased your book and was intrigued at the success of this diet with others and thought I'd give it a try. I'll have to say I didn't believe in diets at all before this miraculous wieghtloss. I'm 33 and 5'10" tall weighing in at 223lbs before I began and had a high cholesteral count(8), I couldn't cross my legs comfortably anymore, excersize was labouring for me, couldn't wear half my clothes anymore without squeezing into them...and I never ever stepped on a scale. Now I am almost in my 5th week of this diet and weigh 185lbs. I have so much energy that my dog is really enjoying the long 1-2hr walks everyday. I can cross my legs again and the other day I tried on a pair of jeans I haven't worn since highschool. I even went out and bought myself a fancy scale! My cholesteral count in now a healthy 4! I feel as though I've gotten part of my life back thanks to Dr. Atkins. The only problem I have is being patient with the weight loss but I know that once that pound comes off it will never come back because this isn't a bus I'm catching to lose weight and then jump off...it's a path I have chosen forever.

Summary: The "last" diet to try!
Review: My husband was referred to an Optifast obesity program by his cardiologist - instead the two us went on the Atkins diet. He has lost 56 pounds in 12 weeks, and dropped his cholesterol 33%. I have much less weight to lose and have lost 30 in 12 weeks. This is the first "diet" that we have been on where we do not crave carbohydrates... The meals are delicious and satisfying. The foods we have been restricting; eggs, butter, bacon, sausage for so long are now allowed. We even lived through the holidays and lost weight. This is a plan that we may opt to stay on for "life."

Summary: Enjoying book-just started and have a question?
Review: I have just started along with my daughter enjoying reading all the success stories, We both need to lose 40-45 pounds and seemed to have no success eating low fat diets. I was just concerned after reading eat right for your type(which details which foods to eat according to your blood type), Type B and O are to be able to be big meat eaters. Type AB is to concentrate on mostly turkey and specific types of fish. Type A is geared towards vegetarian lifestyle. I am interested if any of the big weight losers that followed Dr. Atkins diet are type A or AB.Or are most of the success stories from type O or B. Asking for personal reasons and general interest to see how factual the blood type diet is.I do not want to waste my time if this diet will not work.I guess type AB could concentrate getting thei protein from turkey and fish, although very limiting. So far I have eaten beef and pork.Any remarks? please post or email me tdl1952@aol.com

Summary: Easy Diet for a Jump Start
Review: The diet is easy for most because it allows all the 'prohibited' foods. I need to lose 25 lbs. and in 15 days have lost 12 lbs. I do feel weak at times, and add harmless carbos as directed. The greatest result besides weight loss is LACK OF CRAVINGS. But the book doesn't provide explanation of how to live without roughage. I'm figuring out how to transition to a lifelong eating pattern. Summary: Long-term weightloss results?
Review: I haven't read the book yet, but have heard alot about it. Does anyone know about the long-term effects of this diet? Does the weight stay off and do you continue to feel great? I have been looking for a great diet, but all the diets and excercise I do don't seem to work and I don't eat that much. I just want a diet that does what this seems to do but I want the results to last if I continue to follow the plan. Let me know if you have any info on that.

Summary: This is a great diet!!!
Review: I have been on the diet 1 week, and I have lost 8 pounds, my clothes are getting loose, and I have more energy and feel better than I have in several years. I am diabetic, and my sugar is stabilizing, I have been able to go off of alot of medication, and my insulin has dropped from 80 units a day to 15 units a day. This is a great diet and it actually works.
