Summary: Give me a break!
Review: As usual, I used the Amazon customer reviews to help me decide whether to buy this book.

This is the first time that I found those reviews to be sooooo far off target!

This book is such a disappointment. OK, there are 4 interesting & true messages - read the table of contents and save your money. You won't get much more out of buying the book and reading all of the author's bla bla bla.

The prose really made me think that the author had just sat down and wrote the book in one sitting; or maybe just spoke it into his dictaphone in one day and had his secretary type it up.

There is nothing new or earth-shattering here. I would certainly not dare to call it a "self help" book.

Save your money & buy something else.

Summary: It's good common sense
Review: This is a good book. I decided to pop a 2 star down just to balance out all of the exaggerration votes thrown up for this teeny tiny book. Take a look at the dimensions of this book. All it says is to always tell the truth, always try as hard as you can, to never take anything personal, and don't make assumptions. This book is the type that you read and it inspires you to behave a little differently for a day or two, but is entirely forgettable beyond that point. I think that for the same amount of money you can get a book that is 4 times bigger and actually has something to digest. This book didn't change me at all. A good book is one that you can't help but remember; I kind of wish I could forget buying this little money maker.

Summary: Simple, Straightforward and Sticky
Review: The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz is a short book that has the possibility of effecting people for a lifetime.

Ruiz reflects upon and applies the wisdom from the Toltec people-scientists and artists who make it a way of life to simultaneously explore and continue the spiritual, sacred practice and guidance of their ancestors.

He explains that we unconsciously "agree" with the information, the cultural beliefs and training, that is handed to us by others which we then make into our own personalized paradigm which Ruiz refers to as "The Book of the Law." This "Book of the Law" shapes "Your Dream" which is what you experience in day-to-day life.

The way to break the disempowering bonds of your life is with these simple four agreements which he sets out like this:

1. Be Impeccable with Your Word
2. Don't Take Anything Personally
3. Don't Make Assumptions
4. Always Do Your Best

My favorite quote from the book, to sort of give you a flavor for the writing is this: "Just to breathe is enough for us to always be happy, to enjoy life."

Implementing the Four Agreements is when you will realize it is NOT as simple as it seems.

An excellent, thought provoking book which you can take as deeply as you desire. It WILL change your life if you are willing to stick to the Agreements.

Summary: Book does exactly as it promises
Review: This book was recommended to me by a friend when we were discussing an argument I had with another friend. She told me that I had taken things personally that were not "meant for me". At the time I didn't understand what she meant, but after having read "The Four Agreements", now I do.
Don Miguel Ruiz offers four simple "truths" in this book by which anyone who uses them, and incorporates them into his/her life can find a simpler, more fulfilling way of living and being.
As other reviewers have said the text is very simple, even basic. But that is where the beauty is. The concepts of 1)Be impeccable with your word, 2) don't take anything personally, 3)Don't make assumptions and 4)Always do your best can be applied in anyone's life. Immediately. And for me, they resulted in wholesale change in how I see myself, and importantly, how I see other people.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to make themselves happier, more serene, and more at peace with the people around them.

Summary: The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal
Review: This was a fantastic book. It was the first book I ever read by him. I liked how he made a seaction for each task and it was easy to understand. I could not put it down. I use the book like a bible because the agreements can be applied to daily life. It mentioned how words were like black magcik. That they can in fact a person deeply. I like where he decribes other peoples emotional garbabge can affect you if you let it occur.

Summary: The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom
Review: Free time is browsing the book store and just reading whatever "stands out". A few years ago, my hand was caught on this book's binding as my fingertips scanned the shelf. I pulled it out and my eyes liked the cover. That's how I was referred to this book. Anyway, it has changed my life forever and I have since recommended it to many others. It was worth more than the money I paid for it! (Consumers that may not benefit from this book are those whom are unable/unwilling to look honestly at themselves and others.) Glad to see it is featured here!

Summary: Ack? Maybe I was too hasty...
Review: It's been almost 9 months since I first reviewed this book and, after searching several other paths and philosophies, I have realized that the Toltec "way" talked about in this book has many similarities to the ways of Zen and Daoism (I realize the contradiction on the later).

In any case, 9 months later, I'm revising the rating I gave this book to 4 stars.

Summary: Ack!
Review: Like many others, the inside flap caught my attention, particularly point 2. Unfortunately, the "commentary" on each point contains contradictions, illogic, and some downright bad advice.

For example, one piece of advice given as a "path to freedom" is to make a choice to do what we do as children when parents try to domesticate us. We can rebel and say "No!" We can declare a war against the parasite, a war against the Judge and the Victim, a war for our independence, a war for the right to use our own mind and our own brain." Is domestication always to be considered a negative thing?

Being child-like is one thing, being childish, selfish, and immature is quite another.

Summary: Excellent tool.
Review: This book is in my experience a excellent tool in order to get connected with your true innermost self. Helps you see the truth by exposing lies to the light.
