Rating: Summary: Words to live by Review: I have read many attempts to distill the lessons of the universe. This one really speaks to me. If I learn nothing else in this life, I will have done well to know and heed these simple statements.
Rating: Summary: The Four Agreements Review: This book has actually been in my thoughts everyday since I read it. There are a whole bunch of things that I agree with in this book, but there are also things that I do not agree with. The thing is that whatever you do not agree with, is completely accepted by the principles of the book. Everyone, I am sure, could take something different out of it. I think that it is definitely worth reading because anyone would get at least one helpful thing that may change their life out of it. If they don't they will surely get something worth thinking about out of it. Overall I do believe it is worth reading.
Rating: Summary: Create a Life You Love!!! Review: The Four Agreements will help you do just that. I make my living as a prosperity coach, and this book is the best I've found on the subject. ANYONE can create a life they truly love, and everybody should! This is a book full of very powerful, very wise teachings.Ruiz makes the agreements simple to understand and adds an element of the mystical that makes the book hard to put down. He also incorporates the teachings of several religions, making the book applicable to people of all faiths. This is a definite must-read!
Rating: Summary: A turely great book. Review: This book is turely one of the great books! It really spoke to me and made me look at life differently. The four agreements a very simple and easy to use in your everyday life. If everyone in the world would follow them . It would be a much better place.
Rating: Summary: A different point of view Review: This is an excellent book to gain insight. Alot of reviews mention christianity - and because this book is Toltec based, (not christian), there is alot of "be your own god" advise. HOWEVER, it is possible to gain knowledge without forfeiture of your christianity. I especially found the chapter "don't take things personally" to be absolutely refreshing. It made me change my approach to how I handled negative reactions from others. Wow. One thing, however, the things that were said were repeated over and over. I'm not sure if this is the RUIZ style - or if he just never wanted his readers to forget his advise! The best book you'll get for under ten bucks! A must buy!!
Rating: Summary: Beautiful book, simple but eloquent Review: The four agreements from this book outline four basic principles that, if followed, free up your mind and your life to experience the best life brings. I see some other reviewers find their Christianity challenged, but to me the agreements (be impeccable with your word, don't take anything personally, don't make assumptions, always do your best) are principles rather than opinions - to me, they transcend religious differences and are basically inarguable. In easy-to-read prose (this is a single-evening or medium-airline-ride read) the author does a superb job of explaining how and why following these principles will bring you peace and joy that are attainable in no other way.
Rating: Summary: There is reason to believe this book tells lies Review: While this book offers some thouhtful suggestions, close reading reveals much of the philosophy presented here to be in direct opposition to the truths expressed by the Bible. This book encourages you to create your own reality, to make no distinction between right and wrong and in effect, fire your conscience. It states that "evil is nothing but a disease of the human mind". It claims that our point of view is the only one that matters. It states "we realize that the point of view that other people use to see the world has nothing to do with us".It refers to some basic beliefs of Christianity as "mythology". I could go on but I think Christians should keep their Bibles nearby if they read this book so they can prove to themselves this new age philosophy is not compatible with Christ's teachings.I recommend referencing Hebrews 4:12,13
Rating: Summary: Deep Wisdom equals Utter Simplicity. Review: Ancient wisdom is better than new wisdom-- as if there were such a thing as "new wisdom." The ancient maxims of the heart and spirit require repetition if they are to sink in. Therefore the repetition in "The Four Agreements" is a positive thing. The writing style is simple, and you can read the book in one long sitting. The way the author makes his points is powerful. I can think of only one other recent book of such power and simplicity, "Castle of Wisdom" which I am sure is located somewhere on Amazon and is a Must read.
Rating: Summary: insightful Review: I read the book while traveling abroad and it helped me look at people with a more positive attitude. The book makes you think about how you view yourself and others, along with very good ideas for how to improve your own self imaging. On a regular basis I find myself relating daily occurances to the book and trying to use the information in order to be supportive and helpful to people who may be struggling in their day. The book encourages the reader to have a positive attitude for yourself, only you can treat yourself poorly, either by your mindset, or by allowing others to take advantage of you. It does make you think, and encourages daily growth without guilt. If you have disruptive thoughts, analyze why, and try to correct it so the next opportunity is positive. I enjoyed the different delivery from other books that strictly say "have a positive attitude", but don't give any techniques for helping yourself and others.
Rating: Summary: Simple, Complex Review: I love books that offer extremely simple principles that have timeless and durable application; if nothing else, because it is these simple truisms or "universal laws" that require the most practice and therefore, the most repetition. This is a simple book, but beneath the four simple agreements lies an underworld of complexity that all of us should embrace.
