Rating: Summary: A Work of Art Review: The Four Agreements is truly a living document. This book speaks to me each time I open it, in ways always relevant to what is going on in my life. An amazing work of art. Another excellent Toltec book is "The Power of Belief" by Ray Dodd. This is the best "how to" description of the Mastery of Awareness, and the Mastery of Transformation that I have ever come across. I highly recommend it be read in conjunction with The Four Agreements.
Rating: Summary: Disagree Review: Mr Ruiz says--- Take the example of Hitler: He sent out all those seeds of fear, and they grew very strong and beautifully achieved massive destruction. Seeing the awesome power of the word, we must understand what power comes out of our mouths. One fear or doubt planted in our mind can create an endless drama of events. One word is like a spell, and humans use the word like black magicians, thoughtlessly putting spells on each other. ..beautifully achieved massive desctruction...??? This is in Mr. Ruiz's book!! This is the only self-help book I've ever read that has said that Hitler's destruction was "beautifully achieved" !! You said only what you mean (according to your belief system). I will now say only what I mean: Do not trust a self help book that says: Take the example of Hitler: He sent out all those seeds of fear, and they grew very strong and beautifully achieved massive destruction. I see no beauty in what Hitler did. Only the massive destruction of many millions of people.
Rating: Summary: On my Shelf of Great Books to Inspire and Teach Review: This book occupies a very distinct place of honor on my shelf of great reads. To inspire and teach the true foundations of the human existance, and to become the fullness of our own true potential, we need various "road guides" to navigate the tough turns and turn on our headlights! Also on my shelf - "Psychic Gifts in the Christian Life - Tools to Connect" by Tiffany Snow; "The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment" by Eckhart Tolle; and "7 Habits Of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey. Keep driving, and enjoy the view!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful and just makes sense! Review: What a wonderful outlook on life and inward look at ourselves. This book just made sense - pure and simple. I've recommended to several friends who have enjoyed it as much. As you read it, you will find that these "agreements" are ones we can all easily find within ourselves and live by. And, you won't get lost in the words. I highly recommend it and "The Companion Book" is a must have also. Actually, any of his readings will give insight to much we already have within ourselves - these just make us rethink what we know and encourage us to bring the "philosophies" back into our lives. A must read!
Rating: Summary: Wisdom for everyday of your life Review: If you wonder what can a book tell you about the way you live and relate to others, read this book and you will find that there are simple and basic principles that you can apply to your daily life that will make you a better and a happier person. For some people, the principles (or agreements as called in this book) are no news, if you live already following these principles you will confirm how important they are. However, if you don't apply these principles in your life, this book will be an open door to a new dimension that, if embraced, will make you a better and a happier person. Give it a try; it is a great read no matter what.
Rating: Summary: Met Mr. Ruiz in Mexico..... Review: One day, I was standing in the meta-physical department of a local book store when I saw Don Miguel's book. It was one of those moments where you are caught off guard and find yourself saying, "hey, I know him". Some years ago, I had spent a weekend retreat with him high upon a plateau over looking the ocean off of Baja Mexico. He is a very kind and loving man. He is the type of person whom you can feel the truth of his soul in all he says and does. I did not follow the Toltec path however, because I was already on my own, but it was a pleasure to be in his company, particularly, since I had drank some water and was feeling rather ill. I did not buy Mr. Ruiz's book because his teachings are somewhat basic to me. However, he walks his talk and he personally inquired about my feeling ill, as any true teacher worth his salt would. He teaches by telling stories, does not shove meditation down your throat, and everyone participates in group fashion. A very kind, loving and gentle soul. A true spiritual teacher. Soak up anything up can!
Rating: Summary: Four Principles that make life work Review: This book offers four simple principles which are useful when they are applied. I definitely recommend this book because it teaches basic life 101. I absolutely recommend Optimal Thinking- How To Be Your Best Self as a companion. Optimal Thinking is the language of our best self and empowers us to make the most of life.
Rating: Summary: Shamanic Wizdom from a Surgeon Review: My encounter with a book: I noticed this book, in the first place, for its conciliatory title; 'The Four Agreements', hoping the agreements would keep growing in number. I was finally persuaded to pick it up and examine it out of 1200 books in our home library, because it has a pleasant artistic appearance wrapped in attractive colors. Further it has a strong utilization tool, being "A practical guide" and promising goal: Personal freedom. The Mystery Subject: A title that includes all these mysterious words must focus your attention. Using a Webster's New World Dictionary, I needed to explore the meanings of the title, to find the subject core. Toletic: A pre Aztec Amerindian people that lived in Mexico. Shaman: A priest or medicine man of shamanism. Shamanism: the religion of certain peoples, based on a belief in good and evil spirits who can be influenced only by the shamans. The Author's Credentials: Don (Spanish title of respect, Sir) Miguel who would not embrace his mother healing career, and grandfather shamanic priesthood, to attend medical school, found himself amid a near death experience that he encountered thirty years ago. This experience changed his life by devoting his new life to his ancestors ancient wisdom. He supplemented his earnest study with his mother, a healing "cura.andera," by a telepathic dream-medium apprenticeship with his grandfather, from the cyber ether. The four agreements: Keep your word. Deflate your ego by self inquiry. Communicate clearly with others. Make your best avoiding guilt feelings. These basic commandments that I learned in the Kinder Garden, make not only the essence of this book, but surpassing the series on 'chicken soup for the soul,' created a companion book, audio in coyote voice, 4 inch square cards, and prayers!
Rating: Summary: Cool Review: I'm not much of a New Age fanatic, but this book was good. One of my favorite pieces of advice from the book was how you shouldn't worry about what other people think, because they live in their own distorted versions of reality and you have to create your own version to make it heaven. A cool book.
Rating: Summary: A basic powerful must read Review: Well written and easy to read. Miguel breaks down many complexities of living a real life into a manageable package that you can easily reference from memory.
