Summary: I AGREE
Review: THE FOUR AGREEMENTS IS AN INSPIRATIONAL WONDER OF A BOOK. IT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOR THE BETTER. IT NOW HOLDS THE PRESTIGIOUS SECOND PLACE TO MY FAVORITE SPIRITUAL INSPIRATION CALLED, I TALKED TO GOD AND HE WANTS TO TALK TO YOU.

Summary: Easy to understand and apply advice!
Review: I picked up this book in Staples, of all places and immediately read it right through. I have just read it a second time (4 months later) and find it just as wonderfull. Clearly explained, Ruiz explains four simple principles that, when applied in your life, can help eliminate much of the missery we see in our world. The only thing I didn't like about the book was the constant reference to those things that hinder us as "black magic". It seems he could find a better term. Although it only shows up in a few places, the books seems to assume that it's readers are Christian and American. Other than these two points, which don't detract from the value of the ideas in it, I found it a great book.

Summary: Pure Genius!
Review: I am convinced that whoever came up with the four agreements is a genius. At first, I was so highly skeptical how four rules can remove misery from our lives. But guess what? Every problem I can think of that I'm having or had in the past deals with one, some, or all of these rules. Unbelieveable! Let me give you an example. I was so in love with this girl, but I didn't really had the guts to tell her how I really felt and so one day, I lost her...she got married! How did this happen? Agreement #1, be impeccable with your word: I didn't tell her how I really felt and so I lost her. Agreement #2, don't take anything personally: I took it really personally when she told me her decision. I don't think I got over it for months until I read this book. Agreement #3, don't make assumptions: I thought I was giving her enough signs to let her know already, so I don't really have to tell her. Boy, was I wrong. Agreement #4, always do your best: I guess I can't possibly be doing my best if I'm not even following the first three agreements! Anyway, this is good stuff and all you ever need to live a beautiful life: be honest, don't be too serious, communicate clearly, and just do your best and not have any regrets. Good luck!

Summary: Self help book from Heaven
Review: What we need is more self help books with a spiritual base to it. At our essence we are all souls inside our bodies. Thus, focusing on growth in this area is of absolute importance. This book helps guide one on this path. Another Spiritual book I would recommend that is equal in worth to this book is called, "I Talked To God And He Wants To Talk To You" It's about a mans struggle with faith after his brother dies of mad cow disease.

Summary: The Four Agreements
Review: The Four agreements

According to Don Miguel Ruiz, a master of Toltec wisdom, four simple
agreements (be impeccable with your word, don't take anything personally,
don't make assumptions and always do your best) will transform your life.
He describes very clearly what each of these agreements means and why they
are important. Doing your best for instance will change from moment to
moment and the agreement is far from an exhortation to be perfect all the
time.

One of the key elements that Mr. Ruiz points out a number of times is
self-awareness and not judging yourself for what you find. I have found in
myself that self-awareness has in and of itself been a transformational
experience. I heartily recommend "Working on Yourself Doesn't Work" by
Ariel and Shya Kane. It is a book that I have read a number of times and
will continue to read. In it are the keys to discovering how simple and
profound awareness is and unlocking the magic that living in the moment

produces in ones life.

Summary: Not worth the time
Review: I made every effort to take Ruiz's principles to heart. I challenged my own belief system and try to absorb the true principles that The Four Agreements advocates. What I found was an arrogant author spouting over-dramatized, simplistic principles about nothing at all.

My biggest problem with The Four Agreements is that it is written in such a tone as to condemn anyone who doesn't agree. The author takes a stance that if you do not agree with his philosophy then you are simple, naïve or beaten into domestication like an animal by your parents. Read the title and the four agreements themselves and be on your way. You'll be much better off.

Summary: If you liked this book, I have a timeshare condo to sell you
Review: Where to begin? I was recommended this book by a friend. She is very sweet, but I know she has some rather curious ideas about a lot of things, and upon hearing the cheesy title of the book she talked so warmly about it was with great reluctance I made a mumbling promise to at least give it a try.

I was expecting 150 pages of simplistic New Age mumbo-jumbo, and simplistic New Age-mumbo jumbo is what I got. Chock-full of false dichotomies, logical contradictions and non sequiturs, this book of "ancient wisdom" provides recipes for anything from A Good Life ™ to World Peace ™. All you need to do is to follow the four principles of Miguel the Great and everything will somehow magically work out.

Whereas most of what Ruiz says is just silly, some of it really makes my blood boil. I particularly take offence at principle number two ("don't take anything personally"), which, if you read between the lines, in essence preaches extreme arrogance, turning a deaf ear towards all opinion and criticism, and the sacrifice of love for happiness. This is probably not the conscious intent of the author, but rather he just hasn't followed his lines of reasoning to their logical conclusions. At page 93 he says (freely translated - I read this book in Swedish): "We don't need to know or prove anything. [...] You don't need knowledge or grand philosophical schemes." Well, as a salesman of snake oil of the worst kind, I'm sure you don't, Mr Ruiz, but the rest of us might be interested in at least thinking things through!

To be fair, some of his ideas are not all bad. But then they are not very useful either. How many times haven't we, for example, heard "always do your best" (principle number four)? I'm not sure doing everything in your might to adhere to that is any more realistic than slavishly following the advice of other truistic bumper sticker messages. And I'm not sure it will do you any more good either.

"If we compare [modern society] with the description of hell provided by world religions, we find that they are identical." (p. 28.) While this sentence is a prime example of the bold assertions with no backing whatsoever that plagues many pages of this book, I think most people who are reading this review can agree that life isn't always rosy, and I know we would all like to know how to make it so. But if you really think you'll find it neatly summarized in four sentences on sale for $10.36, then gawd help you.

Summary: TALK ABOUT NEVER REALIZING THE OBVIOUS!
Review: This book was GREAT! Don Miguel totally breaks it down for you. 4 agreements to live by; Be impeccable with your word, Don't take things personal, Don't make assumptions, and Do your best! I passed this book on to a few people, and EVERY ONE OF THEM LOVED IT! I highly reccomend it to anyone who just isn't happy, and that can be for many reasons, but whatever the reason is, this book with help you realize why you aren't happy, and how to change that. A lot of people think that "self-help" books are over rated, and I know, because thats how I thought, but as soon as i got this book, I couldn't even put it down. Don Miguel give great REALISTIC examples, that happen in daily life, which throws everything into perspective.

Summary: simple but lovely
Review: This book may be or sound simple but putting it in to action can be challenging. If you want to make changes in your life, this is the book to get. Straight to the point and to the heart! It also makes a great gift....everyone I have sent it too just loves it.

Summary: BAM........ do you know what to think?
Review: I'm going on my 9'th treck through Don Miguel Ruiz's "4 agreements". This book was written for those who find life to be an endless cycle of self-abuse. If you truly believe that you go through each day without emotional trauma, don't pick up this book. "Idle ramblings" "foolish determinism" are concepts that can easily be thrown at this book. Those who don't find themselves searching for guidance, but stumble upon this book, will find it sensational... It can be the answer, or a butt of a synical quip. I hope you aren't the latter.
