Summary: A Classic
Review: Having a passion, being persistent, and sticking with a goal in spite of difficulties is the theme of this influential book. The first chapter discusses the significance of one's thought's in attaining one's dreams.
Its message came be summed up in a sentence that is highlighted by the author, "Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve" (p. 32).
A logical progression of this initial theme is found in the second chapter as he talks about desire.
In the third chapter he writes, "The emotions of faith, love, and sex are the most powerful of all the major positive emotions" (p. 49). He goes on to describe faith as a "state of mind which may be induced, or created, by affirmation or repeated instructions to the subconscious mind, through the principle of autosuggestion" (p. 50).
He stresses the importance of coupling emotions with desires and thoughts.
In stimulating the subconscious mind, he says belief or faith determines the action of the subconscious.
Other parts of the book talk about the importance of working well with other people. Leaders encourage, they don't intimidate.
Good advice is given when he tells his readers to do an annual review of their lives.
His chapter on the "master mind" is bogus. It's way off base, out in left field.
I'm also concerned about the list of nine men who have been most influential in his life. None of those would be on my list, with the exception of perhaps Edison.
Taken cautiously, there's some good advice in this book and there is more wheat than chaff in here. Just don't take everything he says. Use discrimination.

Summary: One of the most incredible books ever!
Review: The reviewer who mentioned psuedoscience and spoon bending apparently didn't get it. This book is about much more than accumulating wealth. You can make up your own definition of rich...it goes way beyond money. Granted this is no easy shaman-like get rich quick methodology. It takes work and perserverance. Napoleon Hill gives you the keys, but you have to open the door yourself. This book changed the way I look at life and success. One very successful person I know re-reads it every year! I would recommend it to anyone looking to succeed in ANY area-- sports, arts, science and yes even money.

Summary: Everyday success secrets
Review: Napoleon Hill's Unlimited Success - in this book Napoleon Hill, gives everyday success secrets:
1. The only limitations in life are those you set up in your mind. Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve!
2. The successful person budgets time and not only income and expenditures - live within your means and do not squander time.
3. The successful person does not only know what is going on in their community, but throughout the entire world.
4. The strongest trees in the forest aren't those most protected; they are those that must struggle against the elements and other trees - and surmount them - to survive. Struggle is 'opportunity'.
5. Success doesn't crown the person who sells himself short through lack
of self-confidence.
6. Optimism - No great leader or successful person was ever a pessimist. What would
such a leader promise his followers other than despair and defeat?
7. A person blessed with an open mind performs wonderful feats in business,

industry and all professions while the fool with the closed mind is still
shouting, "impossible". Have you imprisoned your mind in a social and cultural concentration camp? Have you subjected yourself to a brainwashing of
your own making, isolating yourself from ideas that could lead to success?
Do not imprison your intellect. Open your mind and set it free!

Summary: When the student is ready...
Review: ...the teacher will appear. Napoleon Hill encourages readers to go through this book at least three times. Solid advice, for there is a lot to chew on here.

First, you must know what it is that you want. As the publisher notes, "The riches within your grasp cannot always be measured in money." Get a clear picture of your definition of riches. Second, you must keep an eye open for opportunity, and be prepared to apply this material to transform thought into rewards.

20 years of research are crammed into these pages. You will learn six steps to stimulate your subconscious mind to turn desire into gold, a five step self-confidence formula, the 31 major causes of failure, how to train yourself to be persistent, how to multiply your brain power through a Master Mind group, the power of sex transmutation, the secret of effective prayer, and how to identify and conquer fear.

Do not aim to understand and apply all of these concepts in one trip through the book. Some of the ideas presented here take a while to absorb. Treat it like a buffet, sampling some of the familiar and comfortable in the first wave, while trying some of the new ideas as well. Look to understand and apply more with each read. As you progress, you will see evidence of the truth behind each chapter.

Henry Ford said, "Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is the probable reason so few engage in it." This is not always an easy read. The concepts aren't trendy and easy to apply, so some are likely to dismiss them. But if you take the time to study this book, apply the principles and really start *thinking* right, you will grow rich.

Summary: A book on pseudoscience at best.
Review: I bought this book expecting to find good advice. Instead I found a bunch of misspellings, grammatical errors, and bad ideas. Think and Grow Rich is just a financial twist on popular pseudosciences.

If you believe in one or more of the following, this book is for you:

1) The healing power of magnets
2) Rocks (or crystals) have magic properties
3) Mind-induced levitation is possible
4) Psychic powers/phenomenon
5) Ghosts
6) Bending a spoon with your mind

I think you get the idea. This book has nothing to do with accumulating wealth. It's about teaching pseudosciences.

Summary: Great book that has a serious flaw
Review: Think and Grow Rich has a lot of excellent information and will help most people achieve success. But there is a serious shortfall in this book because it is based on optimism, and when we face high cost/high risk situations, optimism is the wrong strategy. Buy this book and get a hold of Optimal Thinking by Rosalene Glickman Ph.D. (Wiley 2002) to learn how to bring your best self to any situation, make the best decisions to optimize it, bring out the best in others and OPTIMIZE results.

Summary: Napoleon Hill hit the spot with this piece - it really works
Review: I've been reading many self-help and spiritual books, and I've come to realize that this is indeed a mental universe, meaning THOUGHTS DO BECOME THINGS! (I've been putting this concept into practice and it really works) It's up to you to make your dreams come true or live in your own creation of a nightmare! This book is great as a simple guide to really become rich, and you can apply this same process to any other project you can think of (as long as it's not to harm anyone in the process). If you want to understand the laws behind how this works you can read Emmet Fox's 'Sermon on the Mount', and your mind will be totally blown away with the ultimate truth about, what Jesus really taught and why you and only you have the key in your hands to excell in any aspect of your life from money to soul. To further expand your understanding you can read Jane Robert's 'Seth speaks', the rest is up to you - May you live long and prosper.

Summary: Think and Grow Rich is great but has some flaws
Review: This book is great but encourages unrealistic optimistic assumptions which can be disastrous when the cost of failure or probability of failure are large. Read Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self along with this book to get the realistic mental resource to make the most of every situation, master your feelings, bring out the best in others and make the most of life.
