Summary: This book is a life guide
Review: I've read this book 3 times now over the past few years and it has really helped me get my life in order and make some decisions direction-wise. I particularly liked the chapters on faith and the subconscious mind. I was thrilled to learn in the chapter on faith that it is possible to create faith where it does not exist through simple, workable techniques. Faith, I believe, is the most important element in the book. You wouldn't read the book in the first place without some degree of faith in expecting to attain the knowledge youre after. It is the underlying principle of all accomplishments. The technique used is impregnating the subconscious mind with the desired result through affirmation and self-hypnosis or scientific prayer. You do this by visualising and/or affirming the desired result while in a sleepy, drowsy state. (when you first wake up and while you drift off to sleep) This permits the idea and/or affirmation entry into the subconscious mind more easily as the conscious mind is subdued and can't interfere with feelings of doubt. So intrigued by this, (and the results) I studied it further in Joseph Murphy's 'The Power of Your Subconscious Mind.' Never again will I have to worry about maybe not attaining the things I want in life. They can't not happen.

Summary: This book is a roadmap to success!
Review: Napolean Hill gives practical, yet inspirational advice. The greatest piece of advice that one will take from this book is that one should focus on their thoughts as well as their actions. Success comes from a mindset that turns adversity into victory. I reccomend this book strongly!

Summary: Bugaboos of the Mind Revealed
Review: Why do some achieve great wealth when the vast majority wallow in poverty?

Napoleon Hill interviewed nearly 500 wealthy men (including steel magnate Andrew Carnegie) to determine the underlying causes of wealth. In addition, Hill interviewed thousands of financial failures to determine what drove them to poverty.

Think & Grow Rich is a remarkable text that outlines what Napoleon Hill learned from his vast number of interviews. Hill enables readers to emulate the traits of the wealthy while shunning those characteristics of the financially challenged.

Several highlights of the text are:

(1) Prerequisites to wealth acquisition include a statement of: (a) the amount of money desired (b) the sacrifice one is willing to give in exchange for the money (c) the deadline for obtaining the money (d) a definite plan for acquiring this money (e) a declaration of this statement twice daily once before sleeping and once after waking.

Hill remarks, "You may as well know, right here, that you can never have riches in great quantities unless you can work yourself into a white heat of desire for money, and actually believe you possess it."

(2) The subconscious mind can be a powerful ally (or foe) in the pursuit of wealth. One should truly believe that one will become wealthy and "the subconscious mind will hand over the plan that you need". This belief should be infused with emotion.

(3) Create a Master Mind group of encouraging individuals who can provide the specialized knowledge necessary to achieve wealth

(4) "Success requires no explanations; Failure permits no alibis"

(5) Common causes of failures include: Lack a well defined purpose in life, Lack of ambition, Lack of self-discipline, Procrastination, Lack of Persistence, Lack of decision.

(6) Persistence is absolutely critical to wealth. Hill mentions that "I had the happy privilege of analyzing both Mr. Edison and Mr. Ford ... I found no quality save persistence that even remotely suggested the major source of their stupendous achievements."

(7) To develop persistence one must have a: (a) specific goal with a yearning for its attainment (b) definite plan (c) mind closed against negative influences (d) friendly alliance with those who will encourage one to achieve the goal

(8) Sublimate your sexual urges to a yearning to accomplish your goals

(9) "You have absolute control over but one thing, and that is your thoughts"

This is a remarkable book that is a paean to the power of the mind and its ability to create wealth in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles ...

Summary: Crusty Old Classic, Worth Every Penny!
Review: I bought this at the very high recommendation of a successful business man I interviewed with on 5/8/01. I am half-way through it, and have landed the job with a potential for a 100k annual income. (Let's just say I've never broken 20,000/year in my life. Ever.) The self-esteem building is phenomenal, and Hill covers creative visualization long before Shakti Gawain and the "New Age" got a hold of it. A bit of a stuffy read, but when I'm done, I plan on starting again at page 1.

Although currently $20,000 in debt, I certainly don't plan on being for much longer. Whoever you are, read this one, and keep an open mind, you owe it to yourself.

Summary: The only book on success you will ever need.
Review: Over the years, I have purchased and read many books on the subject of success. Countless times, while browsing the shelves at the bookstore, I have passed this book by because of the ridiculous sounding title. I figured, "right, another book about getting rich..." What a shame, though. For the principles contained in Hill's work are truly powerful.

The premise of the book is simple and rests on two basic assumptions:

#1 There are certain characteristics, or traits, that are common to the ultra successful.

#2 These traits can be discovered through research and analysis of these super-successful individuals and disseminated to the general public.

Hill's research, spanning more than 20 years, focused on just such objectives. What he found is that, yes, the greatest successes that the world has ever known have certain common characteristics: they know, exactly, what it is that they want; they have a very clear picture in their mind of their desired outcome; they are persistent; they proceed through life as though failure is not an option.

Single-mindedness, persistence, faith. Did Hill invent any of these concepts? No. He was simply the first, to my knowledge, to articulate a method for success based on virtually scientific research.

True, one can use these principles to acquire money, but one can equally well use them to acquire just about anything else one desires. It comes down to this: every book you have ever read on the subject of personal achievement undoubtedly borrows from this book.

Think and Grow Rich must be one of the very first, if not THE first, books to provide a method of achievement. Hill was way ahead of his time in writing about such things as visualization, the power of the subconscious mind and how it can be programmed for success, etc.

Like all books of this kind, the reader will only benefit to the extent that he or she applies the principles on a daily basis. It will do no good to simply read the book and continue business as usual. I can affirm first-hand that these principles work. If you have any doubts, just read the other reviews on this site. We can't all be wrong.

Highly recommended.

Summary: Great Book! Buy it just for the last chapter!
Review: I loved this book and when reading you have to keep in my mind the time it was written in. I did think the author was reaching with his claims on communing with the "infinite intelligence" as he calls it. The great value of this book is definitely the last chapter. Anybody who reads will surely think differently in retrospect and will most certainly try to improve his/her life after that even if it is for three days. Very memorable and well written last chapter!
