Rating: Summary: THE BIOCHEMICAL MACHINE Review:
The BioChemical machine is wonderful. My husband and I are on the program together and we like it more than anything else we've ever tried. We both already feel substantially better.
Rating: Summary: FRUSTRATED Review: I felt very frustrated too, with the sloppy index at the back where so many things are not where they say they are!!! Also, I have GAINED weight on this diet and my arthritis is not improved.
Rating: Summary: Spend your money elsewhere... Review: A more concise and clear book from an author with solid credentials is "Essential Eating" by Janie Quinn. Quinn and Delinnart apply the same food theory of not eating certain food types together, but Quinn is more thorough in her explanations and provides numerous recipes and illustrations.
Rating: Summary: The Biochemical Machine is a must have for EVERYONE! Review: Amazing book for anyone looking to improve their health, lose weight and eat real food! After many years of chronic pain I thought I had nothing to lose by trying the A and B method of eating....Well I did have something to lose........the pain! After less than a week I was able to notice I could move my shoulder without difficulty, it wasn't keeping me awake at night and I was losing weight. In addition I have noticed that I no longer have that afternoon sluggishness and have more mental clarity. Ms. De Lennart writes in an easy to understand manner, and her charts make it brainless to follow this program. Healthcare industry should take notice and start prescribing this to all patients! thanks to this book I have control over my life once again.
Rating: Summary: Adding confusion to the acid/alkaline way of eating Review: Aside from the fact that the book is poorly written, as it is full of redundancies, it is also extremely confusing and at times contradictory.
The biggest challenge in this book is trying to understand the chart "A&B Level Two." At first glance, one is led to believe that foods in the "A" column are those considered to be acidic and those in the "B" column are basic or alkaline. But this really isn't so. Both columns contain both alkaline and acidic foods, or at least this is my take on it. I base this analysis on having reviewed numerous acid/alkaline charts (none of which, by the way, are consistent). So in column "A" we find yams and sweet potatoes which are routinely categorized in most charts as being extremely alkaline. In column "B",all sorts of fruits are listed which are also alkaline according to most charts. So the only conclusion I can draw, is that "A" and "B" do not denote acid and basic. To have avoided this possible misinterpretation, perhaps they should have been labeled differently, as column 1 and column 2.
The confusion continues when one stumbles on certain food items in the chart. For example, "berries" are in the "B" column but "blueberries" are in the neutral column. Also, under the neutral column (it should be noted that there are no neutral foods according to other charts) under the category: dairy products, fresh milk products are listed. However, in column "B" under the same category, whole milk is listed. Now, according to the author you can consume foods in the neutral column with those in either "A" of "B" but you cannot combine "A" and "B" foods. So can you have milk with your cereal or not? And speaking of cereal, the author states that "A" foods should be eaten in the afternoon or evening and in one place in her book she suggests that they be eaten after 5PM. Yet under her suggestions for breakfast she recommends a bagel with cream cheese or cereal with whole milk. Both the bagel and cereal fall under "A" foods which should be eaten much later in the day.
As noted in Amazon's summary of the book, the author fails to mention any credentials nor does she make any reference to how she became an expert in biochemistry.
If you thought you were confused about which foods are acidic and which ones are alkaline, your level of confusion will only be exacerbated after reading this book.
Rating: Summary: Great information poorly presented Review: I agree with the others' comments that the information is poorly presented, somewhat confusing and definitely incomplete. However, to counter one negative mention, I believe it is explained in the book that the columns do not represent Acid and Alkaline foods, rather foods that can be combined such as to provide the MINIMUM acidic response. By eating compatible foods, one naturally reduces acidic wastes and balances body pH accordingly. What I like about this approach is that it provides a nice compromise between those authors who tell us food combining is unnecessary and those who want to have 6 different categories of foods that can't be combined. However, I would like to know more about how this list was created and to have it expanded. Perhaps another edition of this book is in the works that will provide a more solid foundation for this excellent eating program.
Rating: Summary: Kept my weight in check during my second pregnancy! Review: I have never written a review, but feel compelled to write one about this book. I agree with other reviewers who were disapointed in the poor presentation, ie. the typos, incorrect references etc.
HOWEVER, the A&B method of eating in Delennart's book is effective! According to DeLennart, ordinary foods can prevent ailments such as heartburn, arthritis, ulcers, promote good digestive health as well as promote weight loss. I was concerned about gaining too much weight during my second pregnancy, so I followed the level one plan, for healthy individuals and felt great! It was wonderful for easier digestion and I gained 25 lbs. less than 1st pregnancy. I had a healthy boy 7 lbs. 13 oz. I didn't feel deprived as it is a way of eating not a diet. I have started level II this week (specific for those who want to lose weight) and I feel great, not deprived, and have already lost a couple pounds. There is something to this eating plan that works! I recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: GREAT NEW BOOK Review: I purchased teh book The Biochemical Machine and have read it THREE times. This book has been very beneficial to me...my health and well being has greatly improved. I love the Biochemical Machine book..I have recommended it to several people. I even bought copies for others. I have been faithful to the A&B mthod since March.
Rating: Summary: Important common sense approach Review: I purchased the book a few weeks ago - and I have seen a wonderful improvement in the way I feel as well as seeing pounds disappear. The book gives a simple easy to follow 'science' and it is further simplified by the charts. The publisher leaves a great deal to be desired - the index simply is total a waste of time - nothing is where the index says it is - but apart from the haphazard publisher, I would give this book a high recommendation and in fact have ordered extra copies for friends with serious health concerns. I do have serious arthritis and have seen an amazing decrease in pain and inflamation - this book really does enpower the reader if they take the time to understand the information.
Rating: Summary: THE REVOLUTIONARY MATCH OF FOOD CHEMISTRY & BODY CHEMISTRY! Review: I read for the first time about the revolutionary A&B Method (the perfect match of food chemistry and body chemistry) three years ago in the European edition of the book and in the June 2001 issue of the German magazine "Petra." They published an article, "The new A&B Method is a work of genius, as well as scientifically sound. During her research, De Lennart worked together with physicians, professors, and scientists...We [at Petra] tried the A&B with success (15.5 lbs. in three weeks)--with a little bit of training and a lot of fun. And the great part: one may eat potatoes, spaghetti, pizza and desserts, yet one loses weight nevertheless." And that's exactly my experience! Jessica McLane
