Summary: Eat Right... and STAY AWAY from this book!
Review: As others have noted (January 7, 1999), there's no science behind D'Adamo's contention about blood types being associated with particular dietary needs.

I am a student at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, one of the few medical schools in the country with an extensive curriculum in clinical nutrition, and I have confirmed with my instructors (MD's) that the assertions in this book are groundless.

Sadly, most physicians are grossly deficient in their knowledge of nutrition (e.g. the MD who recommended D'Adamo's book to a previous reviewer). This deficiency stems largely from a lack of formal instruction in the subject (see New York Times, 4/7/92, Eating Well by Marian Buros).

If you really want to improve your health and your diet, I refer you to "Eat Right, Lose Weight: 7 Simple Steps" (Oxmoor House). Contrary to the title of this book, it describes a comprehensive approach to nutritional health suited for everyone, even those not in need of losing weight. And unlike D'Adamo's book, this book is grounded in science and based on years of medical practice at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, AL. (The recipies contributed by Cooking Light at the end of this book unfortunately leave a lot to be desired.)

I have convinced my father not to follow D'Adamo's advice, and I hope I might have also convinced you.

Summary: No More ~Migraines~ after years of suffering
Review: With an Open Mind ~ I replaced my favorite foods that were on the "Avoid" list with "Highly Beneficial" foods. (Type AB-) In 4 weeks I lost 8lbs.(This is not what I was going for) To my surprise, I felt better right away. To my dismay...... I have had only one migraine in the past 8 months. (since I changed my eating) The one migraine was a direct cause of eating one of the items on the "AVOID" list of foods. Now I have 2 books. One I lend out to my family and friends, while the other stays with me!! My three children are also happy I am no longer Ill with migraine headaches! I am now working on finding out their blood type. If changing the foods I eat, can eliminate migraines in my late 30's, who knows what it can do to teens. Change their Attitude?????? HA

Summary: I'm such an avid convert it's almost embarrassing
Review: Like almost everybody else who has reviewed this book I gave it a two week trial and saw immediate and amazing results. I thought the changes in my diet were so easy to make because I am an AB but no, there are very few of my type. I am slimmer, happier, craving-free, am impressing all my sceptical friends and neighbors even though I am shouting its praises to the rooftops and that is not at all typical of me. I thought I was going to stay fat and listless the rest of my life because I swore NO MORE DIETING and Dr. D'Adamo has offered me a way to live. His suggestions are full of variety, balance and delicious foods; yes the theory is new for most and sounds strange but all great innovations were, too, at one time.

Summary: Feel great if you follow the diet
Review: I have tried various diets over the last two years to test for allergies and generally to find foods that optimise my health and this book confirmed my own findings. Basically what took me two years to find out is contained in this book. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to feel better.

Summary: Unity in the quest for Individuality
Review: Though human beings have an important and very necessary urge share likeness, the other side of an optimally balanced human nature is the important need to express our individuality. There has been much written on the subject of health in our quest to survive amidst the complexities of a technologically complex and risk-filled world. There are no easy answers. However, methods that BALANCE our likenesses with our DIFFERENCES are the wisest. The Eat-Right-for-Your-Type approach is a step towards giving us the promise of that balance. So many of us have tried so many ways to maintain a healthful life - a life with minimal disease and obesity. But we know that WHAT HAS WORKED FOR SOME HAS NOT WORKED FOR ALL! The ER4YT is an approach that, by making its language accessible, gives us all a chance to combine the principles of unity, balance, and individuality in order to construct an approach to health. In other words, "though we are nourished by different foods, we can still sit down and eat together at the same table." I applaud and support this crucial step toward the respectful acknowledgement of diversity.

Review: Cures all manner of ailments and chronic disease states, ER4YT,(Eat Right for your Blood Type) is not to be missed. You can only improve your health (and weight) by following a few simple guidelines. Peter D'Adamo is to be commended.

Summary: Skin, Muscle Tone, Energy, Brain Function - Healthiest at 41
Review: This is the first time I've been back at the petite size I was in high school! Eight months following the plan for type b and I'm healthier than ever. Have tried them all - prior to ER4YT, was most recently vegetarian which turned out to be unhealthy for me and I gained weight. Vegetarianism and Veganism is definitely not for everyone. Thank you Dr. D'Adamo!

Summary: The information in this book changed my life.
Review: After years of searching for an eating plan that I could stay on without feeling deprived but would allow me to gradually lose the weight I need to lose, Eat Right for Your Type was recommended to me by an MD. I have been eating as recommended by the book for 6 months and, in short, it has changed my life. I have never felt deprived. Quite the opposite, I have felt much more satisfied with much less food than ever before. I found that food I really like, like orange juice and dairy products, that are not recommended for my blood type, Type O, I was able to give up with hardly a backward glance. Other foods that I rarely ate before, such as black-eyed peas, are delicious and satisfying. I praise my doctor for recommending this book.
