Rating: Summary: A good book, but has some problems... Review: I consulted this book from the moment I found out I was pregnant, and it has some very good information, but it can be very scary also. It gives the impression that unless the things you are going through are exactly as they are in the book, then there is something wrong. For example, it's states that Braxton-Hicks contractions are "painless", but they can actually be painful, as I later found out. It also makes you feel that if you ever eat a teaspoon of sugar, or anything not quite healthy, that you are somehow damaging your baby and even yourself. It is basically a good book, but you need to read it with an open mind, because no one has a "textbook" pregnancy and can go nine months without eating a piece of chocolate cake!
Rating: Summary: Best resource I found! Review: I had some people scare me about this book, saying it focused too much on the negative. If anyboy says that to you, DON'T LISTEN! I found it very reassuring, especially if you are worried about those negatives. It helps you know what's healthy and normal, and what to call the doctor about. No other resource seemed to be nearly so extensive as this book was. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: I thought this book was fab!!!!! Review: I was so grateful to find this book as it answered every question I could think of and believe me I had quite a few!!! I can now say im going into this knowing all that I can possibly know. I have also bought the "what to expect the first year", and it is full of great information.
Rating: Summary: this is one terrific book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: i am not yet pregnant but i read this book anyway just to see what i am in for. everybody tries to scare you but this book puts everything into perspective and makes you anxious to become pregnant!!!
Rating: Summary: A FIRST PREGNANCY MUST Review: I MUST ADMIT THAT WHEN I BECAME PREGNANT, I WAS HORRIFIED. I HAD NO EARTHLY IDEA WHAT WAS AHEAD FOR ME. THIS BOOK WAS AN ANSWER TO PRAYERS. IT BREAKS DOWN THE WHOLE PROCESS, FROM CHOOSING AN M.D. TO DELIVERY. THANKS TO THIS BOOK I NOT ONLY KNEW WHAT TO EXPECT, BUT I ALSO WAS THE MOST PREPARED MOTHER IN THE DELIVERY ROOM.
Rating: Summary: This book helped me a lot! Review: This book was great! It helped answer questions of mine and my fiance's that we forgot to ask the doctor. It helped reassure me that all my questions weren't weird but very normal. The book includes everything from month to month on what to expect through your pregnancy to receipes. It was very helpful and I am glad that I made the decision to purchase it. I recommend this book to new and again parents!!
Rating: Summary: a very frightening book Review: I bought this book on the morning I took my HPT test, and gave it back to the book-store the morning after. I felt as if the most exciting thing in my life has turend out to be a very dangerous and frightening one. This book describes each and every problem that can occur during the pregnancy, and it is certainly not the welcome I was expecting. This book really frightened me, and since it didn't contain much useful medical information, I decided to give it right back to the bookstore. I suggest not to buy it, especially if this is your first pregnancy.
Rating: Summary: GET THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This was the best book, buy it. It's informative and straight to the point. A great book!!
Rating: Summary: Definitely should NOT be the only book on your nightstand! Review: This book is fine if all you want to do is keep up with the basics of a pregnancy, but it shouldn't be your only book. I found it to be too harsh & unrealistic (how many women actually enjoy eating wheat germ?), and gives the impression that if you don't follow their instructions exactly, bad things will happen! Considering most of their instructions were off-base, I suppose most of us were asking for trouble with anything we did? If you want a realistic book, pick up Dr. Sears' "The Pregnancy Book" (no, I'm not a huge, rabid fan of Dr. Sears, but I do think the book is not a 'know-it-all' style of book!)
Rating: Summary: Terrible - Tells you how to be good patient only Review: This book is limited in scope and in some of its advice it is misinformed. If you want to be a good patient it may be a good book for you. Otherwise, don't bother buying it or toss it out a window if you have it. I was glad I did not waste my money since it was given to me. My advice, try the Sears' books, Sheila Kritzinger's books, or others along those lines.
