Summary: Some substantive information, a lot of scare tactics.
Review: I was disappointed in this book. I found it to be extremely patronizing and absolutely humorless. I want specific information about the baby's development on a week-to-week basis, and this book barely describes fetal development. The diet it recommends is a joke. The cover is offensive- that woman looks like she's been drugged. Pregnancy is a healthy, normal developmental state, not a disease. As a pregnant woman, I want lots of information about every aspect of pregnancy. I can make my own decisions and judgements, with the aid of my doctor. I don't need a book to tell me what to do, I need a book to educate me. I wish this book weren't the top seller- I hope women are finding other books that provide more useful, positive information.

Summary: Could be a little better.
Review: Overall this book was pretty good. This is my first child so i like the part at the beginning of each month. However i dont like the best odds diet section. Im sure if i followed that i would be ill. I think you just need to be sensible and try to eat more fruit and veg. There is no need to go over the top. the book makes it sound if you dont eat all that you are a bad person.

Summary: It's okay...
Review: Just don't rely on this book for all your info. The diet is complete BS. No refined flour or sugar? A bagel is a treat? I like the Q & A format but little else. For sound medical advice, I found the Mayo Clinic guide to pregnancy great. For fun reading, the Girlfriend's Guide. For quick reading with some neat pictures, Pregnancy for Dummies. Overall, it's a good companion piece to a pg collection.

Summary: Lot of information. Not very personal.
Review: I am six months into my pregnancy and have been reading many books. What to Expect has lots of information and seems to have an answer to every question imagineable. I have found it to be very useful. However, I can relate better to a book like We're Pregnant! that gives lots of information but from a more personal viewpoint. My goal has been to find a book that gives a very detailed accounting of the delivery process - What to Expect answers questions relating to the delivery but again, I preferred the more detailed, true-to-life description in We're Pregnant! Still, I would recommend What to Expect as a good reference book.

Summary: Too negative
Review: Definitely include this book in your pregnancy library, but read it with a grain of salt. It provides plenty of useful information, but it will also scare you out of your wits if you take it too seriously. For levity, read the Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy by Vicky Iovine. There are lots of other informative books that are more positive and respect your ability to think and make choices other than what the author thinks is right.

Summary: The only pregnacy book to read!!!
Review: I loved this book for all those inbetween visit questions this is the book to go to. Anything and everything is in this book. The way the book is layed out my husband thought it was a delight everything was easy to find. I love it so much before my baby was born I bought "What to Expect the First Year" and I'm planning on buying the next one too!!!!

Summary: Lots of information; could be a little more positive
Review: I read What to Expect when I was pregnant for the first time. While I thought it contained a great deal of information, there seemed to be an emphasis on all the things that could go wrong. I wanted to be informed, but not knowing myself what to expect, I would have preferred more focus on the positive aspects of pregnancy. Still, this book is great if you have a question on a certain topic - it seems to cover them all. I would have liked the book much better if it were more personal.

Summary: Take with a grain of salt and don't get scared
Review: I found this book somewhat informative, being completely clueless about pregnancy. But I must say that the first time I picked it up and started to read it, I was scared out of having kids for 2 years. My doctor says the key to reading this book is to not read too far ahead of where you are in your pregnancy. It could use a bit more of a positive twist.

As far as the Best-Odds diet, I think it could be revised a bit. It's important to try to eat as healthy as you can, but in the first trimester, I think just getting anything down is an important step. So, I took the diet with a grain of salt and just tried to eat sensibly without going overboard. If I felt like having a scoop of ice cream, I had one.

Summary: This is the pregnancy bible of all books.
Review: This book is the best book out there about pregnancy, and labor and delivery that I have ever read. To me this book is the pregnancy bible. It helped me understand exactly what was happening with my body, and also what was going to happen to my body. It also helped me decide what kind out delivery I wanted and whether or not I wanted to breast feed. I just wanted to say thank you to the author of this wonderful book.

Summary: every mom to be needs this book
Review: This was the only book my friends and family told me I needed. They were right. Every question is answered in this book. It tells you what to expect every month, and is correct. It also includes postpardom and complications. The next book you will need is "What to Expect the First Year".
