Summary: Made all the difference!
Review: The Ultimate Weight Solution was all I needed to take the next step that I have been so worried about taking. I have been chronically overweight since I was a kid but until recently I have been degrading myself instead of trying to change myself. I always thought that there must be something wrong with me. Well, I was right. With the help of Dr.Phil's advice I went to my doctor and started asking for tests that would tell me whether I was genetically prone to being overweight and I am. If it hadn't been for Dr. Phil I would still be trying diets that were unhealthy for me. The Ultimate Weight Solution is not about losing but understanding the myths around weight loss and what you can do to clear the air. I am much happier and I have started eating better. "The Ultimate Weight Solution" made all the difference.

Summary: Practical, honest and workable guidance...
Review: I have completed reading and working on 3 of the 7 keys. The conscious choices I am somehow able to make more easily now, the balance and control, is proof enough to me that it works. I can hardly wait to see where I am by the end of the book! I have struggled with the same 50 lbs for a while now, and am coming to grips with the fact that yes, our choices define our reality. I am working now on my fear of success; after all, failure is what I am most familiar with, and therefore most comfortable with. But the little victories and successes I'm starting to see taste good already.

Genetics and environment can be a factor in obesity, it's true. They're also a factor in alcoholism, drug addiction and child abuse. So people struggling with hereditary issues may have to work a little harder at being successful and productive adults, but ultimately they are still responsible for their own choices and conduct. We're not let off the hook just cuz the deck is stacked against us, not in society and certainly not with our health. As a compulsive eater, I welcome the empowerment I am finding in this book and its tools. If you're ready to choose success, learn to take control, and re-define your life (instead of letting food issues define your life), this book is for you. If you'd rather curl up on the sofa with a poor-me attitude, waiting for someone else to come fix your life and your health, I tried it...it doesn't work LOL! As far as pushing pills or whatever, I'm halfway through the book and haven't found a reference to this yet, so he can't be pushing too hard. He's really on to something here...and has implemented it in his own life by the way. As the book notes, he has changed many of his habits as he discovered their negative impact, and also overcome a cultural tendency in his own family of heavy eating while growing up. More to the point, the success of people he's helped along the way proves he's on the right track to a long-term solution.

This book really peels back the layers and gets to the fundamentals of weight loss success and failure. Early on, he notes how only 5% of people who embark on a program lose weight and keep it off permanently...5%! The other 95% might want to take a look at this book before dismissing it as ineffectual. I'm so glad I did!

Summary: it is all about the buck!
Review: this book might be helpfull if dr phil published it on his web site for free (and did not spend page after page marketing his brand of pills and foods) because isn't it all about helping people??? well, that is what he preaches! good, old fashioned common sense that folksy "awe shucks" dr phil likes to give away on his tv program... and i would buy it except, this book is all about selling his pills and foods (available at your local grocery store). it is all about the buck... call a spade a spade dr phil. it is you getting richer on the backs of overweight people looking for help. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on you.

Summary: It's easy to preach when you aren't abiding by your religion
Review: I can't believe we must once again edure another media enduced circus of Dr. Phil. He was fine on Oprah with his witty one-liners, too much starring in his own show, but now we have to listen to him preach to us on how to lose weight. "Dr." Phil himself needs to look into this topic a little more carefully before helping us with "The Ultimate Weight Solution." I cannot take advise from a man who by today's standard would be considered overweight. If we really does have the solution and it is so easy, then why is he not using it himself. Seems logical. He created it. He says its easy. If Phil McGraw were to lose thirty pounds and keep it off, I would think about listening to him again. It just seems to be another way to make money for the McGraw Industry. Take a look at the supplements he recommends and find out for yourself if Dr. Phil gets a cut of the revenue. You'll see this is all big business working against us.

Summary: The best
Review: I have read the book through real thoroughly. Now I am reading it a second time to really remember what is says. From the moment Dr Phil says I have to start living a healthier life NOW I started to do so. For over a month now, I - a huge sugar addict and couch potato - have not eaten any sugar and exercised every day. Dr Phil gives the tools to handle every situation that occurs in this process. For example, if I raid my cupboards at night there is nothing there anymore and the impulse goes away. That is programming yourself for success. For the first time in my life I feel that I am in control over what I eat. For the first time in my life I feel how great it is to exercise. I am NOT on a diet. I have changed my lifestyle and I want to live this way my whole life. Dr Phil has managed to help me in a way that an endless number of doctors over the years have not been able to.

Summary: Suze Orman for weight loss
Review: Dr. Phil's book reminds me of trhe great books by Suze Orman; "The Laws of Money", "9 Steps to Financial Freedom" and "Courage to Be Rich" in that it goes into the mental aspects to reach the desired goal.

While Ormans focus is of course finances, Dr. Phil's ficus here is on weight loss. How many diets have you tried? Have they worked? Why or why not? What makes Dr. Phil's program diferent is that he shows you how to change from the inside out. You get to think like a thin person or what it takes to become a thin person.

Then Dr. Phil offers sensible nutrition and exercise to help you reach your desired goal. I know a lot of people don't like Dr. Phil--I didn't either at first---but the guy knows his stuff and the advice works. Discipline is tough, which is why I stayed overweight for so long. Adhering to the right diet is tough too, which is why I was fat for so long. CHANGE is not easy, which is why I stayed fat for a long time. But I changed and I practiced daily disciplines and I got results.

The book can't do it for you. You have to do it.

Good luck!

Summary: Sad Day in Weight Loss
Review: Dr. Phil is definitely good at relationships, but he is not the type of person who should be writing about weight loss. All I got out of this book was some basic information and the encouragement to do the things that get most people fat in the first place. I should have known better, after all Dr. Phil is not in that good of shape himself. In short, I purchased this book because he is a celebrity and unfortunately, it lacks in depth and credibility. The food he recommends is not healthy and this book is nothing short of a quick way for Dr. Phil to make more money preying on fat people.

Summary: Physician, Heal Thyself
Review: I have a problem with Dr Phil. If I knew as much about anything as he knows about everything, I'd be in good shape. I also have a problem with a guy who's clearly overweight telling me how to lose pounds. All my life I've struggled with weight. I continue to struggle with it. And this book didn't tell me anything I didn't know. If you have very little insight into your eating patterns, this might be a good buy. It will make you examine why you eat, how you feel about your weight, exercise, etc. If you don't need that kind of thing, this will probably end up taking valuable shelf space. Full of Phil's tough love, rah rah approach to dieting, the book is focused on the psychology of fatness and eating. Not to oversimplify, but I'm fat because I really love to eat, I'm a terrific cook, and when it becomes a choice between sensible portions, unappetizing foods, and slimness or the sheer animal joy of wolfing down a bowl of spaghetti with tomato sauce and bacon, then chicken marsala followed by gelato, I've been sliding toward gluttony. I know that. To re-stoke the fire of discipline, I have to put my mind to it and get off the couch and exercise. I know that, too. And if you feel like a kindred spirit, save your money and buy a jump rope and a padlock for the refrigerator. Meanwhile, Dr. Phil ought to lay off the pork chops himself.
