Rating: Summary: Gets to the heart of the problem Review: If you are an emotional eater like me, no diet in the world will work until you deal with your real issues, the stuff that makes you eat to numb the pain. Dr. Phil understands this and explains how to deal with the root causes of your weight problem in this great book.
Rating: Summary: Solid Effort and a Sensible Approach Review: Surprisingly good and balanced approach to weight control. There had to be a reason that it sold so well.Dr. Phil McGraw presents a balanced approach to mental attitude, exercise, and diet. I like his other book "Food Guide" that contains detailed facts and figures on calorie intakes of various foods and can be an excellent diet guide. Read the present book first and then consider buying the second on the guide. Solid job on an important topic of balanced eating and control over one's own body's health. Recommended. 4 stars buy. Rating: Summary: Good BUT -- Unique Because of the Psychology, yet ... Review: The thing that makes this book different is that Dr. Phil lends psychological wisdom to the task of losing wieght. The dietary guidelines he offers, to me, are not as important as the various "keys" (other reviewers mention them). Used properly, these keys can make the difference. However, where the book lacks is in helping you to use the keys without struggle. That is, how can you feel good about where you are and where you are going, while using the keys. I recommend Dr. Phil's book for his good keys, and I recommend that you scan other diet books also to get other food choice ideas (South Beach, Atkins, Zone...). BUT, THE BIG HELPFULE SUGGESTION IS that you get a copy of an amazingly powerful book to help you feel good about whatever you are doing, to help you feel great regardless of where you are on your weight loss journey. The book is "Effortless Wellbeing: The Missing Ingrediets for authentic Wellness" by Evan Finer. With this additional book, you've got the material to make dieting really work while you feel great, for once.
Rating: Summary: Lost weight; increased energy and well being Review: I lost 20 lbs. and 4 inches around the waist in one month. Even better, my mental clarity was greatly sharpened, and I feel younger and more energetic than ever.Dr. Phil has a great program here. I also recommend The Ultimate Weight Solution Food Guide.
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Review: I have tried many "diet" plans before reading Dr. Phil's book. True, the food choices that he recommends are nothing suprising or new: just good nutrition. However, reading this book helped me to understand why I kept going on diet after diet, losing weight, and then regaining it again. I have now identified many of the mental blocks that I had to maintaining a good way of eating. For example: I used food as a reward and a punishment. After work if I was hungry and didn't want to wait to eat until I got home I would mentally tell myself that it had been a crappy day and I deserved a big mac. If it had been a really good day at work and I was pleased with something I had done I would mentally tell myself that I was really good and deserved a big mac. No wonder I weighed 191 pounds! Dr. Phil's book has opened my eyes and I will never look at food the same way again!
Rating: Summary: look at the picture on the cover Review: How can anyone who is fat and obviously unable to control their own weight purport to be an expert. If this worked any better than any other diet wouldn't this guy at least look reasonably thin? He is not a medical doctor and is cashing in big time from his Oprah fame - she has created a monster. With all Oprah's public weight struggles do you see Oprah endorsing this POS? NO
Rating: Summary: This DOES work and I'm the proof Review: First of all, I want to say to all the nay-sayers and the people who rated this a "1" star -- it DOES work. I've lost 20 lbs in 3 months after reading this book. Yes, it IS common sense -- but that's the whole point - "Fad" or gimmicky diets DON'T WORK. It has to be a lifestyle change. The people who say he's pushing his own food products simply have not read the book - there is no push to buy any "Dr. Phil" foods -- in fact he encourages you to not eat prepared and over-processed foods. It is NOT more expensive to eat the way he says -- my food bills are WAY down. People who say he doesn't emphasize exercise are also way off base -- it's Key #6 and he says that you can't have permanent weight loss without exercise -- but that the best and cheapest exercise is walking which is all I've done to lose the 20 lbs I'm down so far. And don't whine about the climate - I'm in Iowa where it's COLD to walk outside, but I'm doing it. So quit the whining, read the book, and follow it and you WILL lose the weight and keep it off.
Rating: Summary: Sorry Billion Dollar Diet Industry....NOT!!! Review: Dr. Phil has finally said what we all knew to be the truth and he has stated it in Seven Keys. Not easy to follow but these keys have insured changed that has insured weight loss. It is not the little fat girl crying wolf any longer. I didn't gain it over night and listened to lies of the diet industry that I could lose it overnight. I felt horrible about myself for being a failure. With the Seven keys (set forth by Dr. Phil) and my support network. I don't need pills, shakes, or any other stuff being pedaled by the hoax know as the diet industry. Thanks Dr. Phil!!!
Rating: Summary: Thank you Dr. Phil Review: This is a must have book for anyone that is overweight or struggles to keep a healthy weight. This is not "just another" diet book. This is a lifestyle book full of a wealth of information. There is not really any new revolutionary info, but the info is combined and presented in a fantastic informative way. I am beginning to reread this book for the second time. Thank you Dr. Phil for compiling this book.
Rating: Summary: A review from a person who *has* read the book. Review: I'm losing weight, and I know of 134 other people in the Tulsa area who are too. No willpower, just common sense. Those who have given this book a thumbs down, obviously haven't read it... or haven't a clue what it is like to be over weight... or are scared diet pill salesmen.
