Rating: Summary: My Food Bible Review: This book has been wonderful for me. To make sure I get enough fiber in my diet and cut down on the fats, calories and sugars I keep this book with me at all times. I can find just about any food and know right away if it's high or low response before it is even considered for my next meal. I recommend this book to everyone because of the comprehensive food list and sound advice throughout the book.
Rating: Summary: This is a Food Guide Not a Motivational Book Review: This book is a fairly thick 700 page food guide. The vast majority of the book about 75% is dedicated to simply listing different foods and portions, cooking, etc and he cross references that to the number of calories so one can plan a balanced diet. For what it is it is a good guide. The first part of the book is dedicated to some of his philosophy of dieting and exercise but most of the book is just about food and calories with page after page of tables and guides Sticking to the scientific and nutritional realities, weight loss is accomplished by managing the burning of calories against intake, i.e.: reducing the intake of high calorie foods and increasing exercise to burn calories gives weight loss. This book tries to list foods and calories so you can better manage your own personal balance. A cheap investment if you have room on your bookshelf for another thick book. I am giving it three stars because the information is not new or novel. He just pulls together a lot of nutritional data. Jack in Toronto
Rating: Summary: Useful Guide! Review: This book is a good companion to the Ultimate Weight Solution (by Dr Phil as well). My fiance and I have been trying to follow the weight plan from the previous mentioned book and are doing fairly well! I like how this guide has suggestions for meals for 14 different days, which makes it easy for me to mix and match. The key to eating well is planning. Plan what you are going to eat so that you don't end up trying to decide between something healthy and unhealthy.. I know in my case the unhealthy tends to win if given the choice! When I plan out an entire week of meals though, I find myself having a much easier time sticking to it. This guide talks a lot about portion control, calorie counting, supressing cravings, etc. Most of the advice is good, though a lot of it is just saying what other people have been saying in a different way! I still think the advice works! Having a list of exactly what you CAN eat is incredibly useful - makes it so much easier! I highly recommend this (in addition to the Ultimate Weight Solution).
Rating: Summary: Definitely worth the money Review: This book is a great companion to the Ultimate Weight Solutions. However, it is just that, a COMPANION. Don't try to cheat and only use the food guide to do the "diet". The program is about MUCH MUCH more than only "diet" and in order to really achieve success you have to read The Ultimate Weight Solutions. This food guide really makes the program complete.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This book is worth buying. The information is really worth the price you'll pay. I am on week 2 and have lost 8lbs so far following this plan.
Rating: Summary: Great companion to The Ultimate Diet book Review: This food guide by Dr. Phil works very well with Dr. Phil's diet book - The Ultimate Diet. Have you ever been on the road, stopped at a restaurant and not sure what to eat? This guide solves that. Going on vaction? Bring the guide with you. Remember this is intended to be used in addition to the diet book not in place of. Great advice.
Rating: Summary: Companion to his Ultimate Weight Solution Review: This is a great companion to Dr. Phil's Ultimate Weight Solution book. Lets face it, there is no diet that works for every person in this world as we are all different. So Dr. Phil took lessons he observed in his practice and refined them and created this plan. His Ultimate Weight Solution gives you keys that you can apply to any program that you are working with to improve its effects - or use it alone if you so choose. However successful this book has been for people, he has been criticized because it did not come with the food and eating specifics that are now included in the new book. This book offers the specific food information that you can use to lose. Dr. Phil does have a different approach - an "in your face, you are not a victim, you are part of (or all of) the problems that you bemoan" approach and it is difficult to accept and annoying to some - but for many people this approach makes sense and gets them off the couch and into a plan that they can live with for life. No, he is not a medical doctor - he does not claim to be. And, quite frankly being related to a medical doctor I can tell you that the majority of them do not receive much weight loss education in their medical training - not unless they specialize in that area of medicine. And traditional medicine has not been successful in finding a solution to weight issues... Regardless, Dr. Phil's advice predominantly deals with the mental and emotional difficulties of weight problems and eating conditions - but he realizes that his readers need to have sound food information to include in their efforts in order to maximize their success - so he has offered this excellent guide to do just that. This book can add to the value you find in the Ultimate Weight Solution and add to the keys you have at your disposal to lose weight. His approach to to have you help yourself and this book continues that approach and will allow you to be successful.
Rating: Summary: Essential Review: This is an essential book -- it will have a huge impact on your life if you are using Dr. Phil's program for losing weight. I had been trying to do this diet with only minimal success until I got this guide book -- now the pounds are dropping off very steadily. I would also recommend the following other guides which have proven extremely effective and helpful and easy to use: "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron; the CD "Voice Lessons to Go"; and the DVD "New Sex Now: Life's Ultimate Pleasure." If you were to do all 3 of these programs together with Dr. Phil's system, you would look in the mirror in six months and see a completely new person looking back at you.
Rating: Summary: haha, he does look like a walrus Review: This is just a fad. You don't need a book to lose weight. And I really can't understand why this is so popular--you'd think if it actually worked the author wouldn't be obese. I'm 22, and believe me, I've wasted plenty of money on this kind of garbage. I've lost 50 lbs, and kept it off for years. And these types of books didn't help at all. What DID help was developing better eating habits and moving more. Don't get me wrong; I eat junk food sometimes, and I don't even work out every day. I just try to do everything in moderation. Here are a couple tips that will actually help you, instead of just trying to make a profit. 1) Don't use elevators, or find the nearest parking space. Those little bits of extra walking add up. 2) If you want a dinner you know you shouldnt be eating, like pasta, remember everything in moderation. Fill up on a big salad, then have a small serving of pasta. This is comming from a girl who'd 5'9, 130lbs, and used to be 180lbs. Not some fat old man.
Rating: Summary: Don't Waste Your MONEY Review: While I do like Dr Phil, I thought this was a huge waste of money. It is Basically just a calorie chart, and not a very good one. Anyone can get the same info from the package the food comes in, along WITH the serving size (which is often missing in this book). Also, all the Brief info he gives is just a repeat of what is in his hardback 7 Keys Book. I think Dr Phil may have a new mortgage he needs to finance. Want to know how many calories something is?? Look it up online, or in a cookbook, or Anywhere- you don't need this huge book to find it. Very Disappointing Dr Phil.
