Rating: Summary: Necessary content for this supersized nation of ours. Review: My husband recently lost 25 lbs using this plan. He desperately needed to be educated on portion control and using starchy carbohydrates as a staple. As a result of my support in my husbands efforts, I lost 8 lbs. This was solely due to cutting out refined sugar, dialing up the fiber, putting concentration on protein, and watching out for saturated fats. Honestly, I didn't need to lose a pound, but I have never felt so healthy and lean. I am a personal trainer, and was fit to begin with. You must take this plan to heart. If it doesn't strike a cord, then you're not in it to begin with. This book gave us the tools to adopt a new lifestyle of eating. I will not say diet, which is the key to its success. This book is the real deal...not a fad. My friends are actually amazed with the amount of food that I eat in a day considering that I eat 5 times per day. I am 5 feet tall and I weigh 100 lbs. soaking wet. When I bring meals to work, my co-workers gather round to see the culinary treat du jour. I would love to recommend a cookbook that helped us in our efforts to re-think lowfat. The Complete Cooking Light Cookbook. A must. Tone down the fat, Pump up the flavor. This book gives you the breakdown on portion size, calories, fiber, sugar, fats and carbohydrates. It works in harmony with everything Dr. Phil is trying to teach us about the way we, each and everyone of us, should be eating. I would like to share that I am a 47 year old mother of three. I have battled weight all of my life because I love food. I swear my metabolism slammed on the breaks when I hit 40. I have finally reached a very comfortable place with my relationship with food. I never, and I emphasize never, feel deprived. I have acquired a new joy for meal planning. You can't buy this book looking for a miracle. The first week is hard. You will literally detox from the crap you're used to eating. Week two, you begin to coast, and then suddenly you realize you've created a new lifestyle.
Rating: Summary: If statistics is what you seek Review: Ok, let me get this straight, his book, THE Ultimate Weight Loss Solution, isn't complete?! That is the purpose for this over 500 page book telling us the calorie count of every food known to mankind and catagorizing it into "high cost/high yield" and "low cost/low yeild".... Hey Phil, why not just say "HEALTHY" vs "Unhealthy"; much easy for the sheep to follow...or even better.... Why not say, "ah schucks folks, just eat my meal replacement bars and shakes and forget food altogether!".....nah, honesty doesn't sell! Sheep....flock to the store and buy it, but I promise you this, you won't use it!
Rating: Summary: In Your Face Honest Weight Loss Worth Reading. Review: Since reading and following Dr. Phil I have lost 53 pounds and still loosing. He does not coddle you or tell you what to eat, he gets in your face and helps you see why you are eating the way you are. I have such great respect for this book and beleive if you really want to loose the weight you will. Dr. Phil is not a pansy when he walks you through this book.. No magic, no special foods, no special diets.. Just honesty with yourself. If you want to you will. If not you find excuses. Excuses are easy, honesty is not.
Rating: Summary: Motivational but ....... Review: The journal is the most critical part of the program - keeping track of every morsel of food is a common thread in any "diet" program. If only one person gets unhealthy weight off and keeps it off then this book is worthwhile. I also believe Dr. Phil is a great motivational speaker but his extreme popularity also alarms me. Dr. Phil is developing almost a cult following and that makes me uncomfortable. If he says jump - people jump. If he says- "buy my book", now "buy my other book" now "buy my food" people flock with checkbooks in hand and still we are a ridiculously obese nation with less money in our accounts all because of a good marketing stategy. Here's an alternative idea. Stop the commercialism and obsession around food with it or without it. The same people who cannot wait to buy a book by someone as charismatic as Dr. Phil are sometimes the same people who are completely taken in by a late night fast-food window commerical. Don't buy into the marketing plan. Make the decision in your own mind to have healthier habits and fight the commerical urges to follow the lemmings into the marketing processing plant.
Rating: Summary: Weight advice from a fat guy??? Review: The key to weight loss is simple, don't eat like a fat big.
The reason people are so very fat is that they stuff themselves silly and then sit down and watch TV.
The best advice: get rid of your TV and eat less.
You won't get that good advice from Dr. Phil, and that is the problem.
Rating: Summary: The negative reviews state these people didn't even read it Review: The negative reviews indicate to me that they didn't even read the book. I read his set of weight books and the books aren't about a fad diet, they're about changing your life and "eating to live" not "living to eat". It's not just about getting up and getting active. (That is a part of it but you can work out 7 days a week and still be heavy) For many, it needs to be a whole mind set change and that is what this book helps you with. Its all about dealing with food addictions and eating for the wrong reasons and why they're wrong and what you need to do about it to change that thought pattern. And if you think this man is obese you have a serious perception problem. This book makes a lot of sense, is a good read and is not another Cabbage Soup Diet.
Rating: Summary: pretty good diet plan Review: the Rapid start seems easy to follow and the maintenance plan seems easy as well. It is nice and compact and easy to find information within. I recommend it to anyone looking for a diet easy to follow.
Rating: Summary: Great guide to keep you on the right track. Review: The Ultimate Weight Solution focuses on the psychological reasons we eat and how to gain control over the bad eating habits that keep us from achieving a healthy weight. The Ultimate Weight Solution Food Guide gives you a solid base from which to begin your plan and follow thru until you reach your goal. Some feel that the book is nothing but page after page of food sheets, and there is more of this than regular text. However, many dieters haven't got a clue about calories, carbs, good fats, bad fats, etc. This guide will educate them and keep them on track. Well done, Dr. Phil!
Rating: Summary: ULTIMATE WEIGHT SOLUTION Worth a Glance Review: The ULTIMATE WEIGHT SOLUTION is worth a glance because Phil McGraw does more than repeat the basic rules - eat less, move more. Dr. Phil gives his down-home Texas style twist to the wise adage, "It's not what you're eating, it's what's eating you."
Until you accept and love yourself and the body you have, you will make wrong choices about your health and diet.
Practicing Yoga is an excellent way to use movement and breath to bring your body into energetic balance and begin to accept and love it.
When you love your body with all its imperfections - scars, wrinkles, cellulite, stretch marks and all - you will feed it right, give it plenty of fresh water and air and make sure it has lots of joyous experiences.
My French Canadian grandmother Mimi taught us the secret of good health and beauty decades ago; eat delicious food lovingly prepared in moderation, work hard, be active and do something for others and your community, love and laugh heartily and fill your soul with the "joi de vivre." She lived to her 94th birthday. Mimi read thousands of books over her lifetime, but I never saw her pick up a diet book.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: This book gives you not only the good foods but the bad ones as well. It spells it out for you (which I do need from time to time). Not only does it give you the list of foods but it is categorized as well in the front of the book. Used in conjuction with both the Ultimate Weight Solution book and Cookbook it is more information than I have received concerning food.
