Rating: Summary: Not Sensible Review: This book is like reading a book of overly sweet poetry. It is filled with nice sounding platitudes, but it is overly simplified, and ultimately not that useful for people who deal with the realities of life. A much better book is "Staying Sane" by Raj Persaud. It gives ways to live an honorable and happy life in a sometimes difficult world. I agree that Dyer would have done better to recount his addictions and how he has been successful to varying degrees in combating them. What's up with his Dr. Phil bashing by the way? It seems like simple jealousy.
Rating: Summary: AMAZING!! Review: This is a positive approach, and an amazing book that everyone should read. I was a child victim of abuse/sexual abuse and later in life, Domestic abuse. I found the book, Nightmares Echo- it told the story matter of factly and did alot for my inner self healing to "Begin". Then when I heard about this book, I ran right out and bought it. It has helped me so much to learn how to take the healing and make a positive transition in to the world of the survivor. This Book helped me to realize so much and learn so very much more.
Rating: Summary: ¿Simple Concepts, Profound Effects¿ Review: In his book, Dr. Dyer helps us identify how we can be in harmony at all times by merging our thoughts with the creative energy that he calls intention. He does this in a very graceful way, through stories and quotes as well as lists of suggestions. He urges us to examine our usual behaviors to life and describes how the power of intention "matches-up" directly with our thoughts (according to him it is in our thoughts that we produce reality, so we have to be aware of the energy our thoughts carry). His approach is indeed very useful and inspiring, with concepts that are so simple, one some times oversees them in this fast paced world. While enjoying this book, some of the concepts Dr. Dyer touches reminded me of another book that I hold very dear to my heart and that I would like to share with you, called "WORKING ON YOUR RELATIONSHIP DOESN'T WORK" written by Ariel and Shya Kane. Through their book, the Kanes present the three principles to create magic relationships in your life, including the one with yourself. I highly recommend both of these books which pearls of wisdom continue to light up my life.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Self-Held Book Review: Mr. Dyer is great at expressing what it takes to succeed and bringing you to the point where you really believe it. wwr@virginia.edu
Rating: Summary: The Epitome of the Mixed Bag Review: I'm so torn between the love and the hate I feel for Dr. Wayne's newest release! Although Dr. Dyer once again packs the pages with his sagacious nuggets of wisdom, I was left feeling lied to; almost cheated. I guess I should be used to this with Wayne Dyer by now. Every single book gets going on the right track. It brings up issues and emotions which many don't often contemplate or even begin to resolve without a little coercion. The books are easy to get pulled into as Wayne has a friendly way of communicating through the written word, but as I gets deeper into the text I feel as though my mind is telling me I must lay this book to rest. I feel as though I'm being forced into this overly cozy world of oversimplication. I feel as though this source he keeps referring to is always kept vague. I feel as though we are being told to be connected and content in a world where injustice and greed seem to be increasing; in a world where the environment which Wayne Dyer can enjoy in Maui, thanks to his sheltering wealth, is being otherwise largely disregarded at the expense of our "connection". This is not a time to encourage feeling connected despite what is going on around us. Rather, we must fight to stay connected in this fragile moment in history. However, I love the energy Wayne brings to the book. Sometimes it is nice to see somebody at least attempt to see everything in life through a positive spectrum. Yet, I think the good Dr. knows this world brings pain along with bliss, yet he seems to conveniently ignore this reality. Dr. Wayne has admittedly has his own struggles with cocained and discontent; which is certainly pardonable and understandable; yet you'd think a man with such a tumultuous life would offer a greater balance. You'd think he would try to meet people where he would have met himself in his darkest hour. I know this review may come off as harsh. I don't intend for it to be so. Everybody needs hope and encouragement, and Dr. Dyer can certainly deliver. Whether this hope and encouragement in far too naive and overly-simplistic, I leave that for the reader to decide. Remember to watch Wayne Dyer on PBS during pledge months. Maybe you'd want to watch his program before you buy the book! That way you can know if you want to invest 18 dollars on the book!
Rating: Summary: In His Own Words Review: I suppose I'm uplifted rather than disappointed by Dyer's struggle with drug abuse. For those who couldn't find references, they can check out his interview in edgenews.com Dyer: "Well, I've had a number of addictions in my life I've had to overcome. I have sort of an addictive personality. I played around with alcohol and drugs and caffeine. I drank beer a lot and was overweight for a while. I've also been through the challenge of divorce. That was a very powerful challenge in my life." I imagine people struggle with addictions all their lives, but it seems he's done well in spite of them.
Rating: Summary: Challenged Past Would Have Enhanced Message Review: The Sonoma press published Dyer's explanation of his own background. He's kept his challenges with drugs tightly under wraps in the past. His father was an alcoholic who abandoned family. Dyer spent time in and out of foster homes and orphanages, attended college and graduate school, earned doctorate in counseling and psychotherapy, taught, counseled, married, dealt with his own problems with alcohol, drugs (including cocaine) and weight, divorced, wrote books, remarried, had eight children, two grandchildren, a house in Maui and lots of money, acclaim and respect. During the previous marriage he also struggled with addictions, and it was hard on the family. This book is a clone of Emerson. As one reviewer noted below, Dyer said his book is updating Emerson, but the fact is he doesn't credit Emerson in writing in his books. It seems he should given he has "borrowed heavily" from Emerson. Still, his message is a positive one of overcoming these obstacles. This book would have been better if he had given his real life examples instead of painting an overly rosy picture.
Rating: Summary: We need more books like these Review: Books that inspire us to be the best we can be and make the most out of our lives are to me the most important kinds of books. I would also like to recommend the book, The Little Guide To Happiness. Again, we need more books like these.
Rating: Summary: Dr. Dyer will change your life Review: Wayne Dyer is an inspirational voice in a troubled world. This book explores intention as an 'energy.' I found it helpful because it showed me how to connect with universal energy; something I had not considered. Until two years ago, I had a history of self-sabotage ranging from never finding anyone right to partner with to destroying a multi-million dollar business. Two books changed my life. Optimal Thinking: How To Be Your Best Self led me to the source of my self-sabotage and showed me how to overcome it and be my best in every situation. The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People led me to my vision and made me commit. These three books will change your life. You will not settle for second best any longer.
Rating: Summary: Best Yet Review: When they say "the best is yet to come" I must say it has arrived in Wayne Dyer's new book The Power of Intention. If everyone read this book and took it to heart, it would be a beautiful world. I want to comment on a couple of reviews. Two or three people commented on the alleged cocaine addiction of Wayne Dyer. Those comments reek of stupidity. How can anyone cast aspersions unless they sat right down next to Dr. Dyer and snorted with him. Obviously, the people who made those comments received NOTHING from his book. But, they are not afraid to sit in judgment.
