Rating: Summary: I loved it so much, I ran out and bought the book! Review: I consider personal development a hobby. I have done EST, Landmark Education courses; been to countless John Bradshaw seminars, Caroline Myss seminars, studied Tai Chi, meditation, . . the list goes on. That said, I found "The Power of Intention" to be advanced in its' ability to convey an impactful experience on the audience(me). Now I get that, "it's all subjective", but I cannot recommend this disc series enough. It doesn't just offer words, it offers transforming the way you view yourself and the world. None of the info is "necessarily" new but it is put together in a way that had a powerful impact on me. ON THE OTHER HAND, it could just be what I needed to hear right now.
Rating: Summary: Going Outside of the Box Review: Great book on learning to see beyond the box, and working within your true essence. I rate this book as one of the best on the market today for getting beyond the "normal" boundaries that society and others have placed on us. Another book along this line is Tiffany Snow's books, which go beyond the box with defining "Source" and breaking constrictions to receiving healing and manifesting changes and abundance in life. Dyer's book is a must-have for re-recording your inner voice, and Snow's is a must-have for connecting to Source. These are the kind of books you want to write your name in the front cover when you pass them on, so you can get them back and read again and again.
Rating: Summary: Describes The Power Of The Source, But Not How To Plug In Review: Wayne Dyer's book does a great job of describing the power of what he calls "the source". Unfortunately, it doesn't do a good job of explaining how to plug into it. So many people have lost their way when connecting to the source that knowing it, and knowing how to get to it and use it are two very different things. Some people might mistake tapping into the source as pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps. But that is not it at all. Many famous people (i.e. George Lucas, Joseph Campbell, Dr. Phil) who have made it big, and really enjoy what they do with their lives will tell you that you can only be really good at what you want to do and really enjoy it only if you are true to your real self. There is quite a bit of scientific explanation in this book for describing how the power of the source works, but I'm surprised Dr. Dyer did not mention the fact that the entire universe is held together by invisible electromagnetic bonds. An analogy he could have used is that tapping into your source is like correctly aligning yourself with the invisible pull that takes you in a direction you were predestined to go, regardless of what family you were raised in, who your biological relatives are, and so forth. Resisting this electromagnetic "pull" is far more difficult and unpleasant than choosing to follow it, which is not only easy, but will bring about happiness that will exceed your expectations.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book Review: I found Dr. Dyer's book very well-written and something I can apply to my own life. I was struggling with many facets of my life when I saw Dr. Dyer's PBS special. I was so taken with it that I went out and bought his book. This was the first book of his I have read. I found his style of writing very easy, and something I could follow. The book has helped boost my confidence in my own abilities. I definitely recommend it. Thank you so much Dr. Dyer!
Rating: Summary: Dr. Dyer fans, don't be fooled with this one! Review: With this book, Dr. Dyer seems to be resting on his laurels and taking a cheap shot at loyal readers. His points are trite, patronizing, and egotistical. One might as well read The Power of Positive Thinking, or Think and Grow Rich. Or, go to church and listen to just about any sermon on how to live a better life. There is nothing new here. Just substitute "God" for "Intention," "Universal Mind" or any number of other euphemisms. Save your money or better yet, read Vernon Howard, Eckhart Tolle, or don Miguel Ruiz. There is where you'll find real and intuitive inspiration. This time, Dr. Dyer didn't "get it."
Rating: Summary: Deceptively simple - a life long challenge to do! Review: This book summarizes much of the 20th century metaphysical thought that is institutionalized via such organizations as the UNITY Church. I am curious whether Wayne has had any affiliation with that organization, which seems to share his outlook 100%. Others have made many glowing statements about this book, and I agree. A few others have graced us with their criticisms (by the way, CRITICISM is a device of the ego...so if you are going to criticize a book for being a product of the ego, then logically only the ego can make such a statement and then rush to the internet to proclaim it for others to read - this being a reference to one earlier reviewer). Another gave us a lovely list (I picture them with a note pad staying up half the night to find nitpicky little errors so the page number could be marked down). I am grateful for knowing that the good doctor used the word "supersonic" wrong, yet feel such petty mistakes can be overlooked. The message Wayne gives can seem deceptively simple, but it isn't. To actually practice what he states, i.e., to align your thoughts with "Intention" (for some reason, Wayne won't just honestly use the word "God"), is very difficult. Sure, anyone can do it for a short time, but can you make this a spiritual discipline for the rest of your life? That is the goal of many spiritual aspirants. I suggest you read the book at least 3-4 times, let it really sink in, and then ask yourself "Am I ready to commit to do this?" If not, then you will perhaps spend the rest of your life criticizing rather than honoring others. Yet if you are willing to try, I guarantee you an adventure like no other!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: I saw this guy on my local PBS station. His message about connecting to the energy and taking the positive high road of thought is indeed useful. I also recommend the book, The Little Guide To Happiness. Also a wonderful message.
Rating: Summary: Wayne Dyer Not Quite There Yet Review: Genuine Mystics, or those who've reached a higher level of consciousness, do not find it necessary to prop up their false selves (ego) with titles (Doctor). However, there's worthwhile information in this book, even if it's in support of ideas you've already read or heard. Repetition, from different sources, aids those on the path of enlightenment. Wayne espouses service to others which is an ego based activitity that, from a higher level of consciousness, harms those you're helping. Get out of peoples way and let them hit bottom so they can find the spiritual path to truth. If every individual practices on raising their own level of consciousness there will be no one left to help. Wayne Dyer is heading in the right direction however his books are still written partly from the ego. If you want to read an easy to understand, common sense mystic, try Vernon Howard.
Rating: Summary: Align yourself energetically with what you want Review: This is a fabulous book. You learn how to center yourself so that you are in the right energy field to create what you want. You also learn how to harmonize with your environment and connect energetically in the right way. This is Dr. Dyer's best book. One point: Read Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self as well, to energize your thinking to the highest level so that you can bring your best self to every situation and create the best possible results.
Rating: Summary: The best of the best. Learning, realizing, coming together Review: I am an avid fan of Dr Dyer. I have at least a half of a dozen of his books. When I saw him on the Public Television station, I knew I had to have them. The prices were so reasonable, I bought the 6 most popular ones. I am not through all of the material. Each one of them is a new concentration and achievement. I think that they are all great, and The Power Of Intention is possibly the best of his best. Many years ago I saw Richard Bach who wrote Jonathan Livingston Seagull on the Phil Donahue show. He said that he was walking on the beach, and the words Jonathan Livingston Seagull appeared in his mind. Then he went home and the whole book just poured out through his pen. I saw the movie Amadeus. It was about Mozart's life. A competitor, being the kings head musician, tried as he might, could not outdo Mozart's symphonies. He was further stymied when he saw Mozart's scores without a single correction. How could anybody write a complete score, with all of those different instruments, and not have even one correction? When I saw Dr Dyer on the public television station, he explained that unlike his other books, The Power of Intention was created without an outline, notes, or any of the usual writing aids. The whole thing just poured out. So what is writing? Is it a spontaneous overflow of emotions? Is it our allowing of our greater selves to perform without our egos getting in the way? Or is it the willingness to be an instrument of something greater than ourselves? Our hand creates what we are given, without question, without correction, it simply just is. This intention which is in everything and available to us at all times. Many believe that all of the greatest works of art, and music, and literature are created that way. Thanks to this book, I have begun to learn to see things at their core, as their intention. No trying to logically, or emotionally figure someone, or something out, I now am learning to look simply at the intention. Are we in touch with The Power of Intention? Funny, this may be an oversimplification, but I am beginning to look at others in a very simple way. What are their intentions? All of their actions flow from that. The smoke screen disappears, I see with my heart instead of my eyes. The way I am approaching this book of Dr Dyers, is a scoop at a time. I keep a bookmark, and each time I pick it up, I read enough to create an awakening, then I put it down. That usually only takes a couple of pages. His teachings are simple on the outside, yet profoundly deep and complete. I know this review is not a blow by blow coverage of the content of the chapters, the other reviews do a good job of taking care of that. I can't help but reflect on what happened to Leonardo De Vinci in the Agony and the Ecstasy. While working on a lesson, and repeating it again, and again, someone came over to him and said, "Are you still working on that simple task?" Leonardo replied, "A simple task for the simple minded" His critic proceeded to break his nose. The nose breaking is not what is relevant here. What is relevant is that this book, is something to not just visit and look at, but rather something to become. Keep arriving here until it becomes a part of you. The part of you that is the ultimate power, the power of intention. I haven't finished the book yet, but I can already tell you that it is helping me to learn, helping me to realize, and helping me to come together. Forgive me for using the cliché, but this is a must have. Dr Dyer says that their are spiritually centered persons, and others whose egos are in control. The best way to sum up this review, and its response, is to say the words written on the inner jacket of Jonathan Livingston Seagull. "To those who like to do something well, even if only for themselves, they will be with Jonathan all the way. To others, it will simply be a nice book about flight."
