Rating: Summary: Excellent Advice, Recommendations, and Solutions Review: There are many doctors in my family who have witnessed firsthand the disastrous effects of synthetic hormones, compared to the natural bioidentical hormones that are helping both men and women regain their youth, with a dramatic decrease in the symptoms of aging, along with the risks involved directly associated with synthetic hormone replacement. I can only tell you that the research that went into this book brings outstanding recommendations to some of the country's best doctors who are leaders in this field, as well as places to contact if you are looking for further information to do more research on your own so you can make the most intelligent choice that will be best for you. This is another review where I give 5 stars because it clearly brings solutions that will help people make the most informed choices, once they know about different options that are available. An excellent read, and HIGHLY recommended!
Rating: Summary: Loved IT! Review: Miss Somers is a genius, and this book is a very important piece of work for every woman who wants to get back that old juicyness. And when the mood returned, I found that the "New Sex Now" dvd taught me and my husband a new amazing pathway to ecstasy and intimacy. A winning combination to use with the breakthroughs of this book.
Rating: Summary: Valid Effort Review: I hate it when some reviewers say just get a better attitude to deal with perimenopause or menopause. Or there are other medications to use and then not mention them (maybe because they also get negative reviews). You can't assume that other women can just function normally when they go through these hormonal changes. You certainly can't be a man and have a judgemental attitude about it and make any sense. It's not you and we need acceptance for others to try these alternatives. Some cannot function properly when these changes come about but society doesn't allow it to be called a disability. But it is when it interferes in the way you function. Who cares if your taking a risk if you have to so you can function? Everything is a risk. Suzanne made a valid effort with this book and people without conceit appreciate it.
Rating: Summary: One pill doesn't fix millions Review: I've always said to my Dr., family & friends that one pill doesn't fix all. They all thought I'd lost it. My thinking is we are ALL individual humans with different DNA & gene pools. How can 1 pill made in a lab; tested on menopausal women work for EVERYONE. And what about those who have other issues like fiberoids, peri-menopause, hysterectomies, etc. Do they take the same pill? I kept asking my Dr.'s and got the standard answer "well that's what my Medical Journal says." I realize their education in this subject is limited but Suzanne's book goes into that. Science has helped many with illness & disease, and for those discoveries that is to be commended. But menopause & all that comes with aging at this time in a woman's life should be individualized. I'm glad to see the science behind her book & my theory proven. Watch & see how this turns the tables on the drug companies theory that "one pill works for everyone". I'll bet they will be right out there trying to come up with their own personalized compound "mixture" as women start throwing away Premrin & Provera.
Rating: Summary: Gynecologist Agrees with use of bioidentical HRT Review: Suzanne Somers is a great spokesperson for the treatment of menopausal symptoms with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). At our menopause institute my Physicians Assistant and I have prescibed this method of treatment hundreds of times for patients in the last five years. Suzanne's openess in discussing how she coped with menopausal symptoms is so important for other women to read about and will definitely help them in making decisions about their treatment. Rating: Summary: GOOD IDEAS BUT NOT ENOUGH INFORMATION Review: This book is more about her life than what I wanted to hear. Not enough information about the natural hormones she is raving about.I was disappointed.

Rating: Summary: Suzanne has done it again! Review: Suzanne Somers is a lot more than a pretty face...get this book at any age and get a view and many answers to a time of life that can be a skate...or a nightmare...don't count on the medical profession to know what will help....very few of them have a clue and there are lots of middle aged women...and men who are struggling with more than "the change"...US medical schools fail miserably with nutrition and hormones...all they know is disease and drugs..very profitable, but full of side effects and MORE problems.. This book is full of great information and help...neither I could find here in the nation's capitol...full of Doctors living the good life and no answers...Suzanne has found some forward thinking HEALERS who happen to be Doctors..and they share what they have found really works for their Patients...not the pharmaceutical companies...this is lots of information well presented with humor and caring...Thanks Suzanne!
Rating: Summary: Agree with Suzanne, bot only on some things...... Review: I believe Suzanne made a great point about about bioidentical hormones for symptom relief. Premarin may work for them, but by its very nature it just "sounds" like a bad idea....Now as for using bioidentical HRT for disease prevention, I think it is not a good idea to jump on that bandwagon until conclusive research says that it fulfills what synthetic HRT (Premarin) failed to do.... One point Suzanne makes in this book that I find a little worrisome is manipulating the hormone formulation to make sure that you're having periods, or rather periodic monthly bleeding in order to mimic the natural hormonal cycle of your premenopausal years. I guess that's accurate to want to do that rather than taking continuous HRT but I find it a little disturbing the thought of having a period into my 70s or 80s. I'm also concerned about the recent research that has cast a dark shadow over HRT. Prempro carried risks of heart attack, stroke, blood clots, breast cancer, and dementia. Premarin carried the same risks for stroke and dementia. Putting these facts aside, I believe it is not the best idea to be touting yet another type of hormone therapy for prevention when the research to support its safety and efficacy is not comparable whatsoever. Bioidentical seems better, but there have been no randomzied controlled trials to prove it works for all of these diseases... Also I think it's not good for women to believe that having premenopausal levels of hormones our entire lives will insure our longevity. I think the evidence is actually to the contrary: high estrogen levels seem good only as far as keeping our bones strong. Lifetime estrogen levels (ie age of menopause) seem unrelated to one's risk of heart disease. But women with naturally high levels of estrogen, even after menopause (yes the ovaries don't completely "quit" - they continue to produce small amounts of hormones), run higher lifetime risks of breast and uterine cancer. Also (and I read this is the Journals of Neurology and Neuroscience), some research is actually indicating that high levels of estrogen throughout life are associated with more cognitive deficits and Alzheimer's. One study showed that women with the highest natural levels of estrogen, whether postmenopausally or those who had the most menstruating years, had higher risks of dementia. Even more disturbing, hysterectomized rats given estradiol lost their abilities completely to learn new tasks. This information is line with the recent evidence showing that estrogen or estrogen/progestin ups the risk for dementia. So to say it's good for the brain is probably wrong. I realize Suzanne touts testosterone for healthy brain function, but it's far from proven; the same goes for estrogen. Again, I think we need to wait for the proof..... I also am not buying into the idea that menopause takes away our beauty, vitality, and sexuality. I personally found sex better after the change - my kids were grown, I didn't have to worry about unplanned pregnancy. Also, and I think this is important - there IS good reason to believe that menopause is necessary for the survival of the species. If you think about it, there's good reason why 70-something-year-old women can't reporduce any longer. At that age, your health is more likly to be compromised due to aging(though not necessarily!) so the thought of having another baby would be bad for the baby, especially if the mother isn't well enough to care for it!! And since our children naturally spend the first 20+ years of life in or around the nest, it makes sense to me that menstruation ceases at an early enough age so that the mother would have enough healthy years remaining to raise the very last child she was capable of having (although most of us don't want any new babies at 50!! :)). But all in all, this seems the most plausible explanation as far as the life cycle goes and the posibble benefit of having menopause prgrammed in. But back to the book, bioidentical HRT is a viable option for combating the symptoms of menopause and is more likely to agree with a woman's system as compared to the synthetics. But I don't believe there is any conclusive evidence whatsoever to show that they're better for us over the long haul. They might be, but it's imperative we wait for the proof, lest we repeat the mistakes of the last 30 years by giving women hormones preventively for life only to learn that they're dangerous.
Rating: Summary: The Sexy Years by Suzanne Somers Review: The information that Suzanne shares with her reader in this book is essential for every man, women and teenager. She expresses and explains the profound significance of hormones and their functions in a way that I have never realized before. In this day of much depression and behavior issues this is information that all ages need. I observe everyday in my work chemical imbalances that are the cause of much of the suffering in adults and most of all our teenagers. Suzanne's discoveries are a solution...not just a band aid as the synthetic remedies are and with many side effects. I think it is a must read for all. By the way the title "The Sexy Years" is not an appropriate name for this book. I postponed buying it because of it. Don't let it deter you. It is much more than a book about sex and beauty. My daughter and I would have been happier and healthier if I had had this information from ages 12 on. It is crucial for the future of our children to insist that all our Doctors are as informed as the ones that worked with Suzanne so that we all can acquire and enjoy the natural regimen and benefits...for healthier longer lives. Ladies please join me in spreading the demand....so that we will have the supply that will make a vast difference for us all. Be adamant with your doctors. If they don't know, as mine did not.....insist that they learn and search out what you now know is available and works.
