Rating: Summary: a failed atempt at humor....... Review: A failed atempt at being funny! Serious section good but not as complete as one would expect on the subject.Definately NOT an 'absolute must reading' for anyone connected with THR surgery. Don't let this book be your *ONLY* resource when contemplating THR surgery.
Rating: Summary: Informative and funny Review: Finding simularities between the book and my own experiences gave me a smile to my face more than once. Why live with the pain as I had both of mine replaced as soon as I could. Paul gave a lighter side to the operation and recovery. The book was, I believe, to give one persons experience with total hip replacement and was not to be the "do it yourself" type book that some wanted it to be.
Rating: Summary: Charlton Heston was right: don't put it off!! Review: For anyone who thinks they might have a hip replaced, this book will do a lot to relieve your anxiety. Malone has written a very informative book with both humor and insight. It gives the reader valuable information on the amazing process of having a hip replaced and the rapid recovery from such an operation. His drawings and humerous anecdotes make reading about this serious subject enjoyable. Hip, Hip Hooray!
Rating: Summary: Good effort but did nothing for me. Review: Having just had my hip replaced one week ago I thought this book was too silly. An 80 year old in rehab might get a kick out it's attempt at humor but a 40 year old with a wife and 3 children trying to make it on disability needs alittle more insight on the real life mental aspects of hip replacement surgery. Paul's description of his days in the hospital were accurate but over dramatized. I believe a woman giving birth has it tougher that a hip replacement patient. But on the plus side reading this book may have inspired me to write my own book.
Rating: Summary: VERY disapointing Review: I found the "yellow" pages of the book (which were the majority) to be vacuous and not humorous at all. In fact, I found much of it offensive.. The "white" pages were somewhat informative, but why write a book on this subject and say things like "but I will spare you the details of that" .... I want the details before I have the surgery !

Rating: Summary: Good source if you are considering hip replacement surgery Review: This book provides a positive message -- If you need hip replacement surgery, find a good surgeon, time the operation conveniently and DO IT! It provides a good source for information about hip replacement surgery for people who have been advised to under go the procedure. The beginning of the book is "hip surgery lite" for those who don't want to get into the medical mumbo jumbo. It uses humor to explain the "process" from diagnosis, preparation for surgery, the operation itself and recovery. The second part of the book contains serious information about the procedure.
