Rating: Summary: Everything you've secretly wondered how to do... Review: I had to laugh at the title alone. For a survival handbook, it looked pretty understated, but I was impressed by the table of contents. Ever wondered what to do in case of a shark attack? Want to know the proper way to take a blow to the head? Scare off a mountain lion? Hotwire a car? Win a sword fight? This book will tell you in concise terms, and provide an illustration to boot. This would make an excellent gift for a paranoid friend or a graduation present.
Rating: Summary: Very pleasing and amusing.... Review: Every person who has come into my dorm room today (Penn State University) has sat and read this book with delight. It is very handy if you ever get stuck in a crazy situation, I enjoyed the "How to Land a Plane" scenario. The wilderness skills are also very relevant and useful. Everyone has gotten a kick out of it, and a friend of mine even went out and bought his own copy. It was worth the money spent, which wasn't much, and will be a conversation piece for years to come.
Rating: Summary: Useful? and Funny Review: Any schmuck who picks up this book certainly can't be expecting anything but entertainment. But actually, a few of the ideas have a decent chance of being used in my lifetime. It makes for great party conversation. A REALLY useful book I bought this year was The RoMANtic's Guide by Michael Webb. Now that book has tons of stuff you can and SHOULD use.
Rating: Summary: Overall, it's not too bad. Review: Given that I am very active as an instructor in first aid and CPR, and moderately active as an instructor in outdoor survival, two of my friends gave me copies of this book as a (semi) gag Christmas gift. The parts of the book that I was previously familiar with are pretty accurate, if necessarily very condensed.Obviously, this book would not be adequate instruction in any of the areas covered, but as a somewhat humorous brief introduction it's pretty good.
Rating: Summary: Cool Review: I heard a commercial for this on the radio today, ordered it from amazon.com 3 hours ago. I just got it 1 hour ago im finished reading it and its great! Lotsa cool stuff, tells you how to make bomb to escape from a steel renforced cell!
Rating: Summary: As the scenarios got worse, I was laughing even harder Review: How can a book be so serious and so funny at the same time? On the one hand, we know we'll never need this info. On another, deeper level, we're compelled to read it cover to cover, for the same reason we keep a first aid kit in the car. You just never know, right? And won't you kick yourself while you're kicking that shark if you *didn't* learn these tricks to survival? Put this book high on your list of things you never thought you'd need.
Rating: Summary: Survive anything! Review: Worst Case Scenario is a great book. It's got everything! Some of them seem a little corny at first (how to jump of a building into a dumpster) but I guess that is a "worst case scenario." And others like how to break into and hotwire a car seem like the book was made for criminals, but overall you'll be ready for anything!
Rating: Summary: Great Coffee Table Book! Review: This is a cool book. It can tell you how to get yourself out of anything! It is great to look through and most guys will love it! :) Good conversation piece...
Rating: Summary: A great book, but don't take it too seriously Review: This is a fascinating little guide. The reader from CA below is missing the point a bit--it's not a real survival manual, but an armchair guide to survival and escape from likely and mostly unlikely situations. Plus, it has stuff they'd never put in an Army manual, like HOW TO JUMP INTO A DUMPSTER, HOW TO TAKE A PUNCH, and HOW TO WRESTLE AN ALLIGATOR. It's a very cool gift that all my friends loved (I gave it to several). Just don't take it too seriously, and you'll be fine.
Rating: Summary: Fun, but too short on content Review: I enjoy learning about survivalism, so this book immediately attracted me. They cover some good topics, but are far too brief. I feel more familiar with how to do the things mentioned, but I don't feel as though I could actually do any of them. It only took me about two hours to read this book, which makes it much shorter than it should have been. For those interested in this type of thing, I also recommend "Survival, Evasion, and Escape", which is a manual produced by the Army.
