Rating: Summary: Sadly Unimpressed Review: I was so looking forward to reading this book, and I hate the fact that I could not even finish it. What a let down. There are some bits that are funny. My favorites were the quotes from her grandmother. But as the pages turn she seems to be saying the same thing over and over and over again. She almost sounds bitter and that is really no fun. And she makes a lot of lists. This is suppose to be a witty, girl power book not a how-to book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent for All Beta Goddesses! Review: This book should be a must read for older teenage girls. Yes, the language can be a bit raw, but trying to shelter your child or yourself from reality won't get you too far. You might as well live under a rock. Republicans, this book isn't for you (too complicated). I gave my 15 year old niece this book. It's good to see women thinking and acting independantly. Kudos to you, Ms. Gilman!
Rating: Summary: ruled by emotions Review: Let's grow up ladies. Let's be truly free, not ruled by our emotions. This book is embarrassing. How silly she makes us all look. A woman can be a smartass and still kick others, all while being refined and humble at the same time. Sleeping around, ordering dessert and getting a raise will not really be helpful, it might just make you feel a little better, for now.
Rating: Summary: Buy this one! Review: I am a connoisseur of these type books. This is the one I buy on a regular basis for all my friends. It's the one on my night stand that I flip through for refresher courses. It is THE book to buy! You will not regret it.
Rating: Summary: EVERY WOMAN MUST READ THIS BOOK Review: No joke, this woman makes such perfect sense you have to slap your head and say "Why didn't anyone tell me this sooner? The author gives tips on everything from how to respond to a sexist remark to how to ask for a raise. It's about time.
Rating: Summary: Liberals Only Please! Review: I read this book, about 25% was laugh out loud funny, the rest just frustrated me because she was so completely biased and dangit you just can't argue with a book! You don't read this for the advice, because it's pretty much common sense, you read it for her opinions and the way she writes, she's a smart alec and there's no getting around it. She makes fun of what she disagrees with and if you're even remotely right wing or conservative you won't enjoy the book.
Rating: Summary: best advice that you never recieved Review: This was the funniest book that was ever given to me! It kept me in stitches the whole time. While it might offend some of you Right-wingers out there the rest of us need more books by more outspoken women who aren't afraid to tell it like it really is. The advice that I gleaned from every page in this book is priceless. I actually highlighted passages in a non-school book book. That said, they should definately give this book to every woman who has ever taken a women's studies course and every woman who is trying to figure out where she belongs and how to respond while her family, friends and co-workers harass her about her love life. This book definately gets a hardy endorsement from this smart mouthed goddess!
Rating: Summary: Great for YOUNG women only Review: For a woman older than 30, this book is like reading a Dick and Jane book in high school. While I agree wholeheartedly with much of what Gilman writes and found 2 or 3 interesting observations, as a woman in my late 20's, it didn't advance my thinking or stimulate me in any way. I was bored. However, this book is wonderful for a woman just out of high-school or in college. It's a practical instructional manual for life with advice and insightful commentary across a broad spectrum of issues affecting a woman's life. I would definitely buy this as a gift for a woman 18-22.
Rating: Summary: So smart! Review: I recommend this book to any woman who demands to be treated like a Godess! Susan Jane Gilman discusses so many "taboo" woman's issues with such great insight. She says what we're all thinking! ( or should be thinking anyway.) She points out the HUGE difference in attitude between men and women on issues like dieting, shopping, careers etc. I laughed until I cried! A must have book for the potential Smart Mouth Godess.
Rating: Summary: Funny and on point Review: This is a good read for those of us that are feed up with the pop culture we live in. She discusses topics that are relevant to us, such as independence, feminism, etc in a fun and delightful manner. I would recommend this for those that want to have a good laugh as well as reaffirm (or realize)their beliefs about pop culture, family, independance, marriage/dating, and politics. She is VERY opiniated and is not fond of republicans. I would have gave it a five, but there was quite a bit of language, which was a turnoff for me.
