Summary: So good I highlighted parts not to forget!
Review: I loved this book -- read it and kept thinking, yep thats exactly how it is. I also loved the humor. Proves that you can excite, motivate, and be accurate without making the subject matter dull and boring. I have gone to those motivating seminars, how to be a strong and assertive person, etc. Not one of them imparted as much knowledge in a day as a single chapter in this book. And I don't even remember what was taught in those seminars. I have bought another 2 copies. One for my 20yr old daughter and one to share with friends.

Ms. Gilman should write some school textbooks to make school classes more interesting and have the kids willing to learn!

Thanks for writing this book Ms Gilman-- I hope you have another one lined up!

Summary: A boy's view
Review: OK girls, here's a boy's view. The stuff about how we boys think and act is quite accurate. To sum up, basically we just think about sex - if it's gonna lead to sex, it's good for the boy. Yup, that about says it all. Well, we do think about other things too, especially beer and sports.

Kiss my Tiara is hysterical. For a novelist, it's great fodder for writing realistic female characters. To generate great character motivations for a cool twenty-something female within a novel or story male writers should flip to Tiara for helpful action and dialog. I bet Gilman didn't intend to write the book to help boys write female characters better, but hey, authors are just good copycats - you gotta take the help where you can.

Summary: EVERY SMART GIRL SHOULD READ THIS!!!
Review: This book is the funniest thing I have ever read! I have recommended it to all of my friends! This is my new bible. It takes life at a new angle and gives great tips on how to deal with jobs, annoying family members, and men. I reall truely think that this Goddess is a genius!

Summary: great title, some funny insights, but
Review: a bit tough to take if you have an ounce of conservative ideology in your body. Heavy-handed leftist agenda marred what is otherwise a pretty funny book. Oh well, Hillary,Babs & Rosie will love it.

Summary: Hilarious Weekend Read
Review: Hilarious! Gilman is absolutely hilarious. If you're oft-bored with "How to be..." books for women, admittedly have a little sass in you, don't like your humor veiled, and need some weekend reading, you'll likely enjoy this gem.

Her crazy analogies and metaphors absolutely hit the nail on the head. While she grazes the same themes as other known-feminist writers, her witty spin makes those same themes not seem so musty, thus appealing to a younger generation and reaffirming in new ways for older generations. The one that caught me thinking was the author's assessment of men and women at an athletic club; Gilman gives new life to the thought of how men and women view and are viewed differently in terms of their bodies. Pointing out that men lift FREEweights while women climb the stairMASTER made me howl and even got a chuckle from my boyfriend.

While careful not to stereotype, Gilman has us all pegged and gives us all a wake-up call. There truly is a lesson to be learned in this book for every woman - even those of us who thought we were goddesses before buying our copy.

Gilman's humor doesn't overshadow the serious context of this book, but it does allow us all to laugh at ourselves a little when we recognize ourselves in her writing. A highly recommended read for any woman bought a copy of "The Rules..." just to burn it and who doesn't mind laughing a little at themselves.

...and the woman's Grandmother was a JEWEL! :-)

Summary: A book for every young woman
Review: This book was a total wake-up call! It's more of a hilarious rant than a serious feminist text, but we all need hilarious rants once in a while. It reminded me that there is a wealth of publications out there to make us better wives, girlfriends, and lovers, but no one's really told us how to be better PEOPLE. It's a cold splash of water in the face for those who really need it.

Summary: YOU WILL LAUGH TILL YOUR SIDES ACHE!
Review: Hold on to your chair, you are about to take the adventure of your life in this absolutely zany book. Gilman redefines feminism with her hilarious, tongue-in-cheek humour. I would love to have met her Grandma, a midget Amazon who proclaimed,"Have another piece of cake and wash it down with gin and tonic," or "Take a few lovers, travel theworld... " Grandma also said a few other things that I won't repeat here!

If you are an executive woman working her way up or already at the top of the corporate ladder, you will easily relate to Gilman's words on the glass ceiling we reach as we get closer to the top of the ladder. Even if you are not in the corporate world, and a stay-at-home Mom, as a modern-day woman you will not want to miss this book - it is truly one of a kind and full of laughs from start to finish. On the other hand, if you are truly from the old school, with a belief that a woman should be meek, mild and subserviant, well, this book is probably not for you.

Summary: finally a book from susan gilman!
Review: I've long enjoyed Susan Jane Gilman's writing in the most hip feminist magazines - like HUES. Her empowering, real-life messages and clever, fun writing make it a pleasure to read her, and I'm thrilled that her book is now available for all of us to buy and read! It lives up to its promise and more.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Highly Recommend It!!
Review: It's pop-culture's primer on feminist thought presented in a fun, accessible, yet slightly edgy way. If you don't consider yourself a feminist (and I believe most of us are, we just don't identify with the stereotypes), you'll still enjoy this book. The chapter on career advice is right on and the chapter on women in movies (the way they are, then the way they should be) will make you laugh out loud! She offers a funny, feminist perspective (no, this is not an oxymoron)on a wide variety of topics. A tip--don't let the presence of a little right-wing bashing or the frequent "goddess" references deter you from zipping through this otherwise quick, entertaining, and thought-provoking book.

Summary: Irreverent and Witty
Review: Wonderful book! Do read the extract provided by amazon.com to get a flavor of the author's smartmouth style. Gilman has all of us women pegged one way or the other. I loved the chapter "If you can't order dessert, you can't ask for a raise" which is about women's eating habits. Her descriptions about the way we women -- especially when in groups -- give or deny ourselves permission to eat is hilarious!

I couldn't tell what age Gilman is, or what age group she's writing for -- my guess is late 20's/early 30's, but I'll be 40 in a few months, and my peers should find plenty to relate to.

There is a bit more foul language than I expected -- especially the f* word -- but not so much as to be intolerable. Where Gilman *does* go over the top, IMHO, is with her leftist bent. Still, this political centrist and Texan finds much to enjoy in this book.
