Rating: Summary: Don't walk, RUN! Review: Run, Run, Run to get this book - it is a life changer. You will start laughing and identifying with these beautiful women on page one. SPQBOL is one of those books that you can't seen to keep enough copies of because you want to share them with your friends. My advice is this: Get the book, get a crown, make (or have someone make for you) chocolate stuff, drink some ... Margarita's THEN visit Jackson, Mississippi and march in the parade with thousands of beautiful queens having the time of our lives...and be sure to thank Jill for her wonderful inspiration and reminding us of the power of play. Get this book, Get this book, Get this book!!!!
Rating: Summary: I'm Proud to be a Queen! Review: I received this book as a birthday gift from a friend who thought I'd appreciate it...and she was right! I started laughing on page 1 and am still laughing. When JCB's second SPQ book came out, I rushed to buy it and now I'm anxiously waiting for her to write the third book! All these years, I was a Queen and didn't know it. Jill Connor Browne, THE Sweet Potato Queen, writes that it's okay to enjoy life and be a unique individual...the trick is to recognize your own queenliness and then let the world know! Great stories and wonderful recipes. I just hope that I can escape from my "tater tots" in March for the big parade in Jackson! -Queen Anastasia
Rating: Summary: It's OK to be regal! Review: Although SOME folks will never understand it (bless their hearts!), this book is an absolute jewel and a wonderful revelation that we are ALL special women. Why should beauty pageant winners and homecoming queens be the only ones who get to wear a tiara and wave the "queenly wave"? I believe the author sums it up pretty well when she states that life is waaaaay too short for us to waste it by being unhappy and unsatisfied. To that end, why not stick a crown on your head if it makes you feel better? It's a heckofa whole lot cheaper than seeing a shrink, and you'll have the pleasure of meeting a huge sisterhood of women full of heart, stamina and yes, humor. It makes me proud to be numbered among them.
Rating: Summary: Some Folks Just Don't Know How to Have Fun! Review: After reading about Curtisene Lloyd, the World's Most Prepared Woman, I called 5 people and woke them at midnight to HOWL over the entry.Southern women are just funnier but anyone can be a Queen...and I highly recommend it! Comfort and fun are the names of the game and we all need more of that in our lives! Read this book...you'll love every minute of it!
Rating: Summary: Why, bless your heart! Review: That's all I can say to the poor misguided person from Phoenix who obviously doesn't *get* the whole queen thing. Y'all, this is without a doubt the most fun book imaginable. I am a queen, and proudly wear my tiara. I share the joy of play that Jill Connor Browne encourages, and have met an entire court of strong, playful, confident women that understand. Buy the books, buy a tiara, get some majorette boots, and make your reservations for the parade in Jackson next March. Otherwise, sit on the sidelines as a world of fun passes you by. You will LOVE this book...I promise! ; ) HRH Viv
Rating: Summary: I Love this book! Review: This book called out to me from the shelf because of its bright pink and blue cover. What followed were some of the funniest hours of my life. I too kept calling friends and reading them my favorite passages. I cannot say how many times I have either bought this book for people or have told people to read it. If you are Southern or appreciate Southern Humor, I strongly recommend this book. It is a story of Sisterhood and the best part is, the stories are true!
Rating: Summary: Some people just will never get it Review: This by far is one of the best books I have ever read... and it is unfortunate that some people will just never get it. That is what separates queenliness from every-day people. If you are a Queen at heart, you will instantly bond with and enjoy the humor in the SPQBOL. It has improved many women's lives by telling them that it is OK to be a "fallen southern belle"... and if you've never ridden on the back of a convertible and waved, then I am sorry for you, because it is a ball of fun. Not much in life is better. Thank you to HRH JCB for writing such a fantastic book!!! If I could break out of school for the pilgrimage to Jackson, I would be there in my regalia dancing in the street and drinking my margarita. Cheers to all Queens! -Queen MandaSheri
Rating: Summary: Funniest Book I Ever Read Review: I just absolutely loved this book. It had me laughing out loud and laughing so hard I was crying. It made me realize I have an inner Sweet Potato Queen, and I immediately went and bought the second book and read it even faster than this one. If I could, I'd give it 10 stars.
Rating: Summary: Thank Gawd for this book... Review: Only someone that isn't a true QUEEN wouldn't understand this book. If you have queen runnin' through your blood in the least tiny bit, you'll love and cherish the fine words of Jill Conner Browne. She's a hoot and a half. Not only is this one of my All time favorites, I drag it around with me in case I get bored somewhere and I re-read it, it's THAT dang good. Do something good for yourownself and get it. Don't bother messin around with other books (except for maybe with God Save the Sweet Potato Queens! ; ) ) Thank Gawd for THE Sweet Potato Queen!!!
Rating: Summary: This book almost got me arrested... Review: ...in the SeaTac airport at 5 AM. I was waiting on my usual miserable crack-of-dawn connection to Anchorage with 2 hours to kill. I had picked up SPQ to read on the trip and was laughing so loud the cleaning crew was giving me really scary looks. Guess they figured I was one 'em looney tunes. Thought they were gonna get the airport security to haul me off...I regained my composure in time, though. This book is hilarious, liberating and fun. Read it -- it'll make folks wonder what you're up to!!
