Summary: Excruciatingly Hilarious
Review: I have read a lot of exteremly cute and funny books in my time (Bridget Jones, Lucy Sullivan is getting married, and so on..), but this book tops them all. Jill Conner Browne puts a whole new meaning on witty and confident. She makes you want to instantly become a Sweet Potato Queen. There is so much the average plain jane can relate to in this book (Jill's whole take on Beauty Pagents..), and so much more to learn.

Summary: Hilarious, Hysterical, Leaves Pains in your Side
Review: This was by far and away the funniest book I have EVER read anywhere anytime. I laughed so hard I had to quit reading and catch my breath before I could go on. The first copy we had in our office is now dogeared and there is a line a mile long of people who want to borrow it. I will be giving this book to every Southern woman I know as a birthday gift this year. I can not wait to read the sequel!

Summary: One star is to much for this book
Review: This book does not depict the true Southern woman. This book is about women who have to put others down to make themselves feel better.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Funny! Funny! Funny!
Review: I could not stop laughing while reading this book and I giggle secretly every time I think of the words and techniques of The Sweet Potato Queens!!! I can't wait to get started on the sequel; God Save the Sweet Potato Queens!!!! Several of we readers have decided that we must make a road trip to the parade next year. I guess we will be "Out of Pocket"!

Summary: I laughed, I cried, I ate Fritos
Review: While in Myrtle Beach on "Girl's Week" with my daughter, and my friend Jill, I glanced in a bookstore window and this caught my eye. While I and everone around me knows that I am Queen of my world, it was refreshing to see other Queens out there. I bought the book, and finished it early the next morning. I spent the remainder of the week rereading it aloud to my friend Jill. It was absolutely hysterical. I laughed out loud on the beach! Thank you!

Summary: All Women Should Read This Book
Review: An excellent read! Once I started reading it and found myself laughing out loud, I couldn't put it down. The author's writing is funny and light. I especially enjoyed her description of fat...it looks better when it's brown...like on a pork chop...hence tan women look better. I gave this book to my mother to read, as well as my younger sister. They both enjoyed it too.

Summary: I hate sweet potatoes, but I loved this book
Review: Ms. Browne infuses her book with a healthy blend of Southern wit and feminine intuition. A book that can be enjoyed by men and women alike. Long live the Queens!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Queens, queens, queens...
Review: I loved this book! Everyone woman needs to read this Southern womans guide to love. I especially loved the chapter on "Men who need killing, quite frankly." Her chapter on "being prepared" influenced this woman of the NW so much that I went and actually shaved my legs! Go read this book and enjoy some laughs ladies. Then pass it on to your favorite uppity female friends!

Summary: Trying too hard
Review: This book is not that funny. True, there are a few clever ideas here, but for the most part, the author just seems to try and be over the top in her writing, with emphasis on the profane and disgusting. I don't find things funny just because they are profane and take away the disgusting elements of this book and you don't have much of a book. This book wasn't worth what I paid for it. I read it, although I'll admit not to the end. (I get bored when authors repeat themselves as this book tends to do.)I threw the book in the garbage and wished I had just checked it out of the library. Too bad, I understand Ms. Browne can write. She reportedly wrote some very clever and intelligently funny newspaper columns that appeared in the Jackson, Miss. newspaper.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Uproariously Funny!
Review: The Sweet Potato Queens are the South's answer to taste and decorum, well perhaps if you were sitting on the other side of the tracks. This book is pure unadulterated truth from the view of women in the know. Lets be honest isn't it the promise of a good time that keeps the man coming back. Well the Queens have a "Promise" that is guaranteed to work on any man alive.

Along with the famous Promise they teach us how to cook, again we are held to a standard that will harden your arteries as you turn each page. I did receive a bit of wisdom that the author tells us her grandfather imparted to her, not a very wordy man he turned to her one day and said, "Be particular". Now think about the wisdom in those two little words. They fit into every aspect of your life from sex to food.

This book is written with the most enjoyable flair I have ever come across. It just brightens your day to read a chapter or two and I promise you will laugh out loud. A sheer delight in every way. Kelsana 4/29/01
