Rating: Summary: The Uncheese Cookbook Review: A friend recomended this cookbook to me because I try no to eat dairy but I love cheese so much I often fell off the wagon, never again! I am a fool for the great tasting, easy to follow recipes in this book. I also uncheese for my father who has high cholesterol and a similar love of cheese. He especialy likes the boursin, brie and almond chocolate uncheesecake. Some of the recipes don't taste just like cheese but are great in their own right. But it is amaizing how much some of the recipes taste and feel like dairy cheese.
Rating: Summary: Cheeeeeeze....This is Great! Review: I found this book to be fantastic. The recipes taste so much like cheese that you have to do a double take. The ingrediants are easy to acquire. Preparation time is very short. The recipes are well written and easy to understand. Some recipes use nuts, others use soy or beans! For anyone who cannot eat cheese or chooses not to eat dairy, this book is great. A few of the recipes have a little higher fat content, some have very little fat content becuase of the beans used in them, so there is a good choose of what to prepare.(The amounts of fat, fiber, etc are included with the recipes.) Absolutely no cholestral. This book is a must have!
Rating: Summary: Utterly useless Review: I was deeply disappointed with this book. It is full of complicated high-fat cheese-substitute concoctions(nuts are a staple ingredient for recipes) that are not worth the time, effort, and expense they require. I found I am much happier using the available non-dairy substitutes made from rice or soy, or better yet, shifting altogether to vegan recipes that focus taste elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: Very Cheesy in an UnCheesy Way! Great Book!!! Review: I bought this book for the novelty, but it's extremely odd how cheese-like some of the non-dairy cheese recipes can be! The recipes are very tastey. While all of them do not taste like their cheese counterparts, they do have a lot of the same qualities that people love about cheese! Some of the cheese-recipes melt too! All in all, I think this is a great book!
Rating: Summary: Cheese dishes without the cheese. Amazing! Review: Where does she get her ideas? This amazing title contains truly creative recipes for cheese dishes without the cheese! The author demonstrates ingenuity and imagination, and the results are awe-inspiring. If not always exactly like the original, they are pretty close, and generally quite delicious. Wonderful for anyone trying to limit or eliminate dairy foods, or anyone interested in a little creative cooking. I am impressed everytime I try another recipe. It's bizarre what a little pimento and cashew can do.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely a necessity! Review: I don't know what I would do without this book! The recipes are easy to follow, and most of the uncheeses are quick to whip up. Gee Whiz Spread, Simply Cheezy Sauce, and Pub Fondue are staples at my house.
Rating: Summary: Yum, yum, yum! Review: I was pretty skeptical when I first bought this book. So much so, that it sat on a shelf for almost a year before I mustered up the courage to try some of the recipes. I know there are plenty of other vegans like me who really don't like nutritional yeast, but this book changed my mind! Joanne uses it in a way that is tasty and not overwhelming to any dish. Instead, every recipe I've tried has come out tasty and cheezy. I particularly like the colby, her cheezecakes, gee whiz, the rotini and cheezy sauce . . . the list goes on. A must try is grilled cheeze sandwiches using her swiss cheeze and a slice of canadian "ham". Divine!
Rating: Summary: Difficult and weird Review: I bought this book, but never, ever use it. The recipes are long and strange and the ones I made weren't all that. I believe in "keep it simple, stupid." I get better raves just sticking with tofu--saute onion, fresh garlic, mash in tofu, proceed. It looks good on the shelf but fails to satisfy.
Rating: Summary: Satisfy your vegan cheeze cravings..... Review: This is a great, fun cookbook. Great recipes to recreat tastes from your dairy-eating days. My absolute favorite has to be the vegetables camembert which is equally tasty on rice or pasta. The stuffed baked potatoes and potatoes gruyere are great potato dishes. The cornmeal pie with monterey jack is another fun and tasty dish. All these awesome tastes without the fat and excessive calories of health-stealing dairy conterparts, its incredible. The dishes don't always taste exactly like cheese but all are delicious in their own right. I highly recommend this cookbook and can't wait to get my own copy of her new book - The Unltimate Uncheese Cookbook!
Rating: Summary: My Favorite Cookbook!!! Review: This cookbook is just amazing! I use it on a weekly basis and even my non-vegan stepkids have raved over most of the things I've made. I haven't loved everything, the sour creme & yes the mac & cheeze weren't my favorites, but the Cheeze Whiz I make weekly--I thin it down with soy milk. It goes into 7 layer bean dip, nachos, over brocolli, & my version of mac & cheeze. The parmesano is incredibly easy and the 3-cheeze lasagna really is cheezy. All these dishes have gotten raves at potlucks too. Joanne has definitely made it much easier to be a cheese-loving vegan!!!
