Rating: Summary: Healthy, quick, and oh so flavorful!!! Review: My family (ages 38,34,13, & 10) have tried the 40-30-30 fat burning nutrition cookbook and have had great results. The only problem was that there is a limited amount of recipes. Then while on Amazon.com, I discovered Bill Taylor's cookbook. WOW!!! Every single recipe has been incredible and easy to prepare (a lot of vegetables chopping though). My husband has been the main cook for the past 2 or 3 years in our house but this book actually has me cooking and enjoying it again! I am the type of person, along with my kids that will rarely attempt to even taste a dish made with fish. But I am here to tell you that we have made the Halibut Provencale, Baked Salmon w/tomatoes, olives, & fresh herbs, and the Halibut w/red peppers & red onions and oh my gosh...everyone ate every bit and all but licked the plate! The chicken and beef dishes are outstanding and my son who would never eat anything with cottage cheese ate a whole Egg Salad Sandwich (with cottage cheese mixed in it, he didn't have a clue!) and begged for it the next day for lunch again! The breakfasts are great and if you have never tried steel cut oats I suggest that you do! It reminded me of grits which I love, but only better and healthier! My family and I are in this for the long haul and hey, if we happen to drop a few pounds along the way, great! Our main goal is to eat fresher, more balanced foods for a healthier life and this book is the best we've found. No complicated, confusing, scientific figuring of "blocks" as in the "Zone" books and with about 100 meals and over 30 snack ideas, you simply must buy this book! The taste and quality of these meals is worth the very affordable cost of the cookbook. At this point, 10 days into it, we have made 30 different meals and have yet to be disappointed. The snacks are pretty good but not as outstanding as the meals. I wish you all the best and get ready for a wonderful taste sensation!
Rating: Summary: Waititng for the Second Edition Review: OK - so we're all agreed - there oughtta be an index in this otherwise delicious cookbook. And may I suggest the recipes should be standardized (each one to feed four and let the reader do the math)? It's great to find a useful addition to my 40-30-30/Zone collection. This way of eating really suits my family, and we are not easy to please, having two conflicting food allergies, one picky eater, three kids and two dieting parents amongst us. Taste, speed and nutrition are important, too, and Taylor delivers all of this. It's wonderful to see my family eating fish without complaints and yogurt or cottage cheese for breakfast. Plus, the recipes are so simple my oldest wants to try the Szechuan Chicken for his Home Ec homework. Fine by me!
Rating: Summary: How the balanced diet worked for me. Review: Several years ago I was approaching my 50th birthday out of shape and over weight. My doctor told me I needed to make some major changes in my life or I was going to start having serious problems. Out of desperation I found the "Zone Diet" and tried to incorperate it into my life. My problem was, when I first started the balanced diet, I was never sure I was getting it all the way right. I was having a hard time with the carbohydrate, protien, fat ratio concept. I am a chef, and most of the recipes I found in the "Zone" literature or on the Internet didn't make much sense to me. I figured that if I was having trouble making this thing understandable, it could be a nightmare for other people. So in the test kitchen at the Crossing Press I started to develope some simple recipes, using some classical recipes and everyday combinations of foods that would fit into a balanced diet. In this book I am not interested in convincing anyone that this is the way to cook and eat. This book was written for those that are already "doing it", and need a little help. I hope you have as much success with this food plan as I have had. Thank you for your interest and please buy the book.
Rating: Summary: A Diet Cookbook for the Entire Family Review: The Balanced Diet Cookbook has recipes that the entire family will like. I am so tired of cooking two separate dinners at mealtime. A dinner for my 40-30-30 diet and a dinner the rest of the family will eat. These recipes have received rave reviews from my family who generally will not eat "my diet food."

Rating: Summary: Easy and Eatable Zone Meals and Snacks Review: The recipes helped me get started eating in the Zone. I found most of them to be basic, down to earth, easy to use recipes. The only improvement would be an index for the recipes.
Rating: Summary: Finally - Quick & easy zone recipes! Review: The recipes in Taylor's book are easy to prepare, very tasty, and don't call for expensive or hard-to-find ingredients. Though I'm not strictly following the zone plan, I find myself preparing one of the book's recipes almost once a week, simply because they're so great and easy-to-prepare. As someone who has struggled with finding ingredient-friendly, time-friendly zone meals, I was delighted with the selections in Taylor's book (the chicken almandine is fabulous! ). I just wish there were more of them. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: No Index? In a Cookbook? Review: The recipes in this book are great. However, some demon possessed the author and he excluded an index! And the table of contents is too slim to deserve the title. No matter how good it is --and it is-- I am frustrated to have to thumb page by page to find that great banana bread recipe again. Buy the book but dis the author for shabby work!
Rating: Summary: Great recipes and relaxed, practical approach to balanced ea Review: This is an excellent cookbook for anyone interested in Balanced Eating. The author takes the concepts of The Zone and puts them into easy to make and tasty meals. He adds a few suggestions of things to add to make the meals more appealing. Recommended companion book to: 40-30-30 Fat Burning Nutrition.
Rating: Summary: tasty and easy recipies! Review: This is the book I've been looking for! I have two kids under five and not much time to cook. My husband and I have been trying to eat 40-30-30 for the past year. Dr. Sears needs to hire a good chef though! The recipes in his books just don't have the flavor that Bill Taylor's do. Thank you Bill!
