Rating: Summary: Very good-slightly dated Review: A classic, but be aware it was written before the invention of the microwave or cholestoral.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book for people who have a sense of humor Review: A well written book on basic survival skill for young adults away from home. Filled with recipes and ideas for household products. May offend people who need to grow up, though. Recommened
Rating: Summary: Great Present Review: Anyone shopping for a great present for a kid first leaving home, whether college or first appartment. It is a must! My kids loved it & used it. I've sent it to many friends kids, too. It always gets complements...even months later when they really find it helps!
Rating: Summary: what a wonderful tool Review: Get this book together with WHERE'S DAD NOW THAT I NEED HIM and your kid moving away from home will be all set - also a great gift for a young couple!A MUST HAVE in my opinion and the hints on substitutes when cooking as well as measurements are the best ever. I have used this book many many times. The recipes are easy to use and have clear instructions, the cleaning tips come in handy many times and there is so much more info in this book, it would be hard to tell you. I also like the ringbinder version much better than the paperback version. It lays flat and makes it much easier to use.
Rating: Summary: Buy this book as a gift and you will want it for yourself Review: I bought this book for a college student away from home for the first time and she loved it. So I ordered a copy for my brother too. After looking at it I wouldn't mind a copy myself. It has many practical easy recipes, great information on food storage and preparation as well as valuable laundry tips. This book is a great gift for anyone living on their own even if they have been doing it for awhile.
Rating: Summary: A great reference, not just for the youth Review: I got myself a copy of this book after deciding to get one as a gift for a young niece headed off to college. This book has tons of useful (and money saving!) tips - including simple "recipes" for household cleaners, laundry information, how to choose produce, and basic recipes so even people who supposedly don't cook will be able to have a nice meal instead of Dominos night after night. This is a great, simple, and very useful book.
Rating: Summary: A fantastic resource! Review: I got this as a graduation gift and used it through my college years for cleaning stains, first aid, cooking. A wonderful resource book for anyone who has wondered where your mom learned all those bits of wisdom!
Rating: Summary: very helpful Review: I got this book for graduation and I have found that it has helped me greatly. I reccommend this book be given to graduating seniors, because they are going to need all the help they can get.
Rating: Summary: New Brides or College Students! Review: I got this book when I left home several years ago and it was invaluable. My brother just graduated high school and is preparing to go to college, and this was one of his gifts. Particularly for many boys who may not have learned much about basic cooking, laundry, stain removal...It's a must-have!
Rating: Summary: The BEST! Review: I have many cookbooks, subscriptions to household magazines, etc. but I refer to this book the most. It has great household remedies for burn salves, drain unclogger, and more. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is just starting out or for a shower gift or college student. I have 6 friends getting married in the next 3 years and they are all going to recieve this book!
