Rating: Summary: Fun, exciting recipes for healthy, modified carbo diets Review: While there seems to be a tremendous amount of evidence in authoritative, peer reviewed clinical journals for the benefits of a diet with lower than traditionally thought amounts of carbohydrate, the cook book world had not caught up - until this book !! Deborah Chud's book is the first gourmet cookbook to creatively address lower carbohydrate diets. I've purchased the other "low carb" cookbooks. They just don't offer variety, creativity or pizzaz. They are just not fun. This book is fun ! This book supports the kind of nutritional program that I can stick with. Bravo to Dr. Chud !
Rating: Summary: Intelligent, fun cookbook;intense flavors;and healthy too?!! Review: This wonderful cookbook contains adventurous combinations of ingredients both everyday and exotic, and clearly explained preparations. The results are healthy but above all delicious, with intense, clean flavors. The book is laced with funny personal anecdotes and fascinating tidbits of science about food, physiology and the cooking process. I love the turnip "fries," and the quick and delicious seafood recipes using the stove-top smoker are a revelation.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Flavor and Healthy Cooking Combined in One Book Review: There are very few lower carbohydrate cookbooks available and this one is the best I have ever seen. This is a beautifully designed and elegant cookbook full of wonderful recipes. I just love it. It has opened up a whole new way of flavoring and seasoning food for me. It makes following the Zone diet, or any other lower carbohydrate diet, easy to follow. It is "in the spirit" of the Zone without being legalistic and rigid. The explanations in the front of the book are great. This truly is a "Gourmet" cookbook. I would highly recommend it. It has changed the way I cook!
Rating: Summary: It worked for me Review: I had the lucky break to be one of the people who tested these recipes as Dr. Chud worked on her book. They are delicious and surprisingly easy to prepare. But they also increased my energy, strikingly reduced my cholesterol level, and my blood pressure. That's a lot to get from smoked tuna with an anchovy tomatoe mayonaisse!
Rating: Summary: The best book I have seen to eat healthfully and lose weight Review: "The Gourmet Prescription" is the best book I have ever seen on how to maintain good health, the proper weight level, and to avoid binge eating -- all at the same time to be able to enjoy wonderful recipes that look and taste fantastic. Dr. Chud has designed high-flavored recipes for low carbohydrate diets so that anyone can eat great food totally compatible with the Zone Diet, Sugar Busters, Protein Power or the Atkins Diet. I am grateful that I have finally seen a book that is written by a physician who is both an expert on nutrition and a gourmet cook who understands that we need to have wonderful food in our lives.
Rating: Summary: Finally...a low carbohydrate cookbook bursting with flavor! Review: Dr. Chud's cookbook is filled with dishes that are zesty and delicious...they just happen to be low in carbohydrate too. What a lifesaving prescription for those of us who are tired of the monotony of low carbohydrate diets! Each recipe has a nutritional analysis, as well as Dr. Chud's helpful tips on how to create or serve the dish. The book is also full of beautiful color photographs showing the finished products of Dr. Chud's mastery. This cookbook is a must for those of us who, until now, equated healthy low carbohydrate diets with boredom.
Rating: Summary: A beakthrough cookbook: great recipes based on real science. Review: This is a breakthrough cookbook. Great recipes based on genuine science, beautifully written and presented. For a very long time, anyone who wanted to strictly follow a healthful diet -- low in fats, low in simple carbohydrates -- has had to sacrifice half of the taste and experience of fine eating. Dr. Chud is clearly a very accomplished cook as well as a careful scientist. While the diet books of most doctors seem formulaic, Dr. Chud's scientific method is both nuanced and fully-informed. In culinary terms, the Chud diet is, in my experience, the most varied, innovative and ultimately best-tasting on the market. This cookbook is a treasure.
Rating: Summary: This is a clear, literate, easy-to-follow cookbook. Review: I found it - a cookbook that presents with grace and style the modern joy of cooking. It's the first cookbook I've seen in years that is charming, literate, and clear. The recipes, introduced with crystal fragments of information or delightful anecdotes, are marvelous. They are based on recent medical research linking diet and health, with never a trace of "it's good for you and that's why you should try it." The recipes are arresting, as well as fun to read and to make. Dr. Chud has revived the dying, measured cookbook, creating in its place, a robust text - full of life. What a feat!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic development. From the Zone to the Gourmet Prescrip Review: This is a book which has obviously taken a lot of thought and time to develop. Deborah Chud presents a practical and extermely tasty way to watch your diet and improve your health. Certainly not as radical as some of the current books on the market in this vein. What a revelation. A must for the gourmet chef and those who need to watch their cholesterol etc. CONGRATULATIONS Deborah!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful beautiful book that yields delicious results! Review: For thousands of years, we scrounged for food and lived in constant fear of droughts, famine and other scourges. It is only in this century, and in this country, that our tenuous and fearful relationship with food has begun to change. We now have the option to "eat smart" as well as nutritiously and deliciously. Dr. Chud's book epitomizes the notion that eating that is good for you and tastes good too, can coexist. In addition, the book is very well written and graced with beautiful photographs. The recipes I have tried have been uniformly spectacular. Food has many roles and meanings in our lives. Following Deborah Chud's presciption is very good medicine!Paul R. Billings, MD, PhD
