Rating: Summary: Beautifully presented and inspiring! Review: For a year now, I've been in The Zone, losing 5 inches off my waist and 3 dress sizes - but found that when my husband and I wanted a great meal, I was starting to leave the Zone behind... Dr. Chud's well written recipes have rescued us, allowing me to prepare satisfying dishes and stay in the Zone. The Gourmet Prescription has inspired us with wonderful new ideas and techniques - her smoked peppers have become a household staple. It is an all-around beautiful cookbook to use.
Rating: Summary: Great Book. Great Food. Great Results Review: This book is a must for those of you who want to improve your bodies, but do it with good tasting, easy to prepare food. The text is thoughtful, and well written. The photographs instigate a Pavlovian salivary response. The food almost jumps off the page onto your plate. The best thing about the book is that it offers solutions for those of us are used to special meals that are either difficult to prepare, or are relatively tasteless.Bravo to Doctor Deborah Chud for her wonderful opus.
Rating: Summary: Not a gourmet cook Review: If you have cornichons, ume plum vinegar, adobo sauce, white truffle oil and fenugreek in your pantry, this book is for you. I, however, donated mine to the local library.
Rating: Summary: Food Recipes For High Living Review: Heard You On the Faith Middleton's show "The Food Schmooze" on CTPR......I wish my "appearance" on her program could've been HALF as beautiful as yours. The greater good of food, health and the enjoyment of both is in this book. Great going!
Rating: Summary: Flavorful food easily adaptable for vegetarians Review: I'm an ovo-lacto vegetarian, and before I bought the book, I heard Dr. Chud speak on an NPR radio show. During the interview, she mentioned that almost half the recipes were for carb dishes, and that the other half (meat dishes) could be adapted using vegetarian protein sources. As a vegetarian attempting the zone diet, I decided to give the Gourmet Prescription a try. I bought the book, after making sure there were a high number of recipes that I could adapt. None of the protein dishes are vegetarian, but many, many of them feature flavorful sauces and mixtures with veggies that can be adapted to a vegetarian diet. The first recipe I adapted: Smoked Shrimp Fajitas. I don't have a smoker, so followed Dr. Chud's suggestions for increasing the flavor in the absence of smoking the shrimp. I then substituted a vegetarian protein source for the shrimp (vegetarian stir-fry strips made from wheat gluten marinated in soy sauce), which I cooked with a small amount of olive oil on a non-stick griddle. The result was highly flavorful, and a more interesting dish for my taste buds than I've had in a long time! It's not a vegetarian cookbook per se, but it definitely has a place in this vegetarian's cookbook library!
Rating: Summary: A cookbook which gives new meaning to "high flavor." Review: My husband have been in the Zone since May and though the pounds have dropped off, we felt a little like Deborah Chud's son who said"Mom I know your food is good. I just don't like it." Now that his mom has written this wonderful cookbook, we like our food again. Try the Lamb Chops marinated in Spiced Yogurt or the Pork Tenderloin with Plum Sauce or the Five-Spice Flank Steak. Also, the Lemon-Gener Sauce in the broccoli recipe is good on EVERYTHING, especially salmon. As the icing (pardon the expression) on the cake, her prose is clear, crisp and witty. We thank her for making it possible to smack our lips again.
Rating: Summary: Thanks for returning my tastebuds to me! Review: Heard you on the Jim Coleman Show on NPR radio in Philadelphia and what you said about flavor and diets is what I have been saying for a long time. Food, prior to obtaining your cookbook and recommended smoker, was dull, boring and uninteresting. Even the Zone which has excellent ideas leaves alot to be desired for the gourmet palate. Tonight my husband will have the Spicy Grilled Chinese Veal Chop and I will have the Broiled Sesame Salmon. I had smoked tuna for lunch and made clams with black beans yesterday. WOW! Thanks for returning my tastebuds to me.
