Rating: Summary: The Power Protein Diet REVEALED!!! Review: Finally, someone has the common sense to give those of us metabolically "unfortunate" types a GREAT book so we can make fabulous LOW carb HIGH protein diets at home.If you're like me, you're just as frustrated when you learn most of the current protein diet books only tells us to "Eat meat. Don't eat bread, pasta or rice." (Like: Duh!) Then this is cook book is for you! The recipes are easy to read, and even easy to prepare. Even if you're all thumbs in the kitchen, you'll benefit from this protein cook book as I did. My hats off to this author! :-) I mean no offense to the Eades books (authors), but there's lots of us out here that couldn't care less about "arocondic acid" or "good or bad acosnoids." (Even though I spelled them wrong.) We just want to know the foods we should eat, and those we shouldn't if we want to lose weight. This book DELIVERS! I've lost 12 pounds this month alone and I'm on my way to losing another 60 pounds to get me back to 190 lbs by August 2002. WOO-HOO! :-)
Rating: Summary: Incompatible with Bettina Newman's book Review: I bought this book when I bought Smart Low-Carb Eating (Bettina Newman's book). I read the Newman book and tried a couple of recipes (which were very good), then re-read it. I then took a look at the Rodnitzky book and almost fell over when I saw the number of calories in some of her recipes. Let's not kid ourselves with this low-carb diet business: calories and portions do count. 700 calories in a serving? Are you kidding? There's no way these two books are going to jibe. If you agree with Bettina Newman that there's a smart way to do the low-carb thing (minding portions, for one thing), you needn't bother buying the Rodnitzky book because you'll do what I'm going to do: send it back.
Rating: Summary: You can't tell these are low carb dishes Review: I have tried about 20 of the recipes in this book, and I'm ordering 3 more copies to give to my friends who keep borrowing mine. The crunchy biscotti (mandel bread) and delicious pumpkin walnut bread are unbelievable, people who don't care about low carbs love these desserts too, they don't taste the least bit "funny." It is really easy to stay on a low carb diet when you can bake and freeze tasty desserts like these. The meat recipes are good, and I like the author's creativity with vegetables; the garlic and pine nut spinach has been a big hit with my friends. Not all of the baked goods were spectacular, but it is nice to have some variety. I found the roll cakes to be a little eggy, but still good. I have lost about 10 pounds, I wasn't very overweight to start with, but I am eating lots of vegetables and feel very healthy with the help of this cookbook.
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: I just made the Pumpkin and Walnut Bread (used pecans though) and it is great. I felt like I was cheating on my diet. I recommend this book highly, especially if you are tired of just sugar-free jello desserts.
Rating: Summary: Incompatible with Bettina Newman's book Review: I ordered this cookbook based on the reviews, and ordered another called "Fabulous Lo-Carb Cuisine". I paged through both and immediately put Ultimate Low-Carb Diet Cookbook back in the box to ship back for a refund. There were WAY too many recipes that I wouldn't even consider preparing...not because they didn't sound good...but that they weren't quick and easy. Anything that involves trips to the "speciality" grocery store and a ton of ingredients and prep work is a turn off for me. I instead kept the tiny book of awesome recipes that were quick, easy and realistic for my lifestyle. (Not to mention yummy) This one was way too "out there" for me and unrealistic for daily use.

Rating: Summary: Best of the Low Carb Books Review: I own 10 low carb cookbooks (Atkins,Heller, Schwarzbein, Donna Johnson,Fran McCullough, Lauri Randolph, Gassenheimer,Doyen, Donna Rodnitzky)and this one is the best! The recipes are tasty and very well written and formatted. Some of the other books contain a lot of gourmet-ish recipes I would not normally make, others have recipes that are too boring and tasteless. The Ultimate Low Carb Diet Book gets it just right. Main Course sections include Rise and Shine (breakfast), Hot and Spicy, On the Grill, Exotic Flavors, In the Main, Strictly vegetarian. These are recipes I would chose to make even if I wasn't on a low carb diet. She also has about a dozen dessert recipes. I could not stay on the diet without this book!
Rating: Summary: So far so good Review: I own many low carb cookbooks (Fran Mccullogh, Linda Gassenheimer, Atkins cookbooks, etc,) and honestly none of them compare to this book. this is just the best. With useful information, DELICIOUS and un-complicated recipies, that fit perfectly when doing Atkins or another low carb method to lose weight or as a new adopted lifestyle. Highly recommended, I just LOVE this book.
