Summary: Delicious and easy meals
Review: My husband and I went on the Atkins diet in January and he bought several cookbooks to help us get started. This is the one I have come to rely on almost nightly; the others I have put aside and don't bother with anymore. The recipes are quick, easy and delicious. Most ingredients, other than the obvious fresh ones you need to buy, I already have in my pantry. We have both lost all of the weight we intended to lose with no difficulty and feel, with this book, it will be easy to maintain the diet. This is the only book I would recommend without reservation.

Summary: Judging from the food stained pages in my book,
Review: Judging from the food stained pages in my book, I can highly recommend it to all of you low carb/high protein dieters. Lauri gives lots of down-to-earth recipes. I especially like her Key Lime Delight and Orange Dream (both of which I have substituted different flavors of jello). And, the Creamy Smoked Chicken is yummy. The reason why I rated this a 4 star instead of a 5 star is because of some proof-reading flaws in the book. You have to pay attention to some of the recipes as they contain descrepancies. Also, I don't like Sweet 'n Low and that is what she uses in most all her recipes. I just substitute Splenda and that has worked fine. If you are looking for a simple way to cook, using ingredients that you have on hand, this is a good one to purchase.

Summary: My only dog-eared low-carb cookbook
Review: In all of my exuberance to go low-carb, I bought a boatload of low-carb cookbooks to keep me on track. Well, this is the only one that I constantly use. After a long, hectic day at work, I'm usually starving by the time I get home and need to whip up something quick, easy and tasty to keep me from cheating. With most recipes using between 4-8 easy-to-find ingredients, I constantly use this cookbook.

I've also used many of these recipes for entertaining and have received positive feedback.

This cookbook, along with "Atkin's Quick and Easy Cookbook", make low-carbing a lot easier to deal with.

Summary: Wish I'd paid attention to "Too Much Sweet 'n Low" review
Review: I try to avoid Sweet'n Low. I turned to my first love, the dessert section, to see what tempting things she'd done with fruit, or what new solutions there'd be for low-carb delight. Everything calls for you-know-what. The pumpkin pie calls for 8 packets of Sweet'n Low. Some of the meat entrees call for Sweet'n Low. Can't Almond Chicken be made without the need for sweetener? I was sold on the book by a reviewer who mentioned all the delightful stories about the recipes, and I don't see a one. I honestly scrolled to the top to see if we were talking about the same book.

Summary: Will not buy the book -
Review: Note to the writer - when people buy a cookbook online we need to see more that your table of contents. Considering the specific topic - I can't buy a book that I can't at least see a couple recipes and determine if I like the style of cooking.

Too bad for Lauri!

Summary: Not thrilled with the recipes so far...
Review: I have made several of the recipes in this book and I'm not impressed so far. The cheesecakes were not great--they were quite dry and tasteless (the baking time was probably overstated). The chocolate silk pie was awful--the bitterness of the chocolate could not be tamed by the artificial sweetener. I tried Splenda in one and a liquid sweetener in another, and both tasted bitter and disgustingly sweet at the same time. The usual dessert recipes are in there (I'm getting tired of seeing chocolate mousse with the usual cream, cocoa and vanilla). I am giving this book a 3, however, because I haven't tried the first or main course recipes yet, so that may be a saving grace for the book.

Summary: The edition offered here has no claim about The Zone diet
Review: A few reviews are criticizing this book for having recipes high in fat, and for not being compatible with "The Zone" diet. One stated that the jacket cover specifically mentioned compatibility with The Zone diet. The jacket cover does not refer to The Zone diet. Although there are dissenting opinions, most proponents of low-carb diets believe you must also have high fats to be successful in your weight loss program, and this cookbook (which has great recipes, in my opinion), follows the latter strategy.

Summary: Love It!
Review: I not only like this book for it's recipe but for it's personality!!! Very personalized with stories with some of the recipes as to how they came to be. Good food-good book.

Summary: Too much Sweet'n Low!
Review: This recipes has great recipes and wonderful ideas even for someone who hates cooking as much as I do!! However a lot of the recipes calls for Sweet'n Low, I don't really care for the taste of it and try not to use it in my cooking.

Summary: Good Variety and Easy Steps Make This Book a Winner
Review: I received this book, the second edition, two months ago and I am very happy with the variety and ease of preparing the foods. While I could have done without the brief personal info of the author at the beginning of the book, her tips for dining out, and the typical grams of carb in raw foods (although not quite accurate), were very helpful.

The ingredients were easy to find at my local grocer, outside of the Atkin's Baking Mix - which I haven't tried. The average recipe is 3-4 steps and relatively easy to make with nearly any level of cooking skills.

This book is not without some minor (or if you count carbs closely, major) flaws. As I mentioned earlier, some recipes mention inaccurate carb counts. One example (however a personal favorite recipe of mine) is the Breakfast Custard Squares which appears later in the Desserts section of the book as simply Baked Custard. These are both the same recipe to the last measurement, except their serving sizes vary from 6 for the Breakfast Squares, and 4 for the dessert. According to Lauri's book, the smaller serving size Breakfast Squares claim to have more carbs per serving than the larger custard dessert of the exact same recipe! So, don't count on this book for accurate carb counting.

The only other issue I have is the number of recipes calling for artificial sweetners. I am not a fan of artificial anything, especially aspartame, and I find the number of recipes with Sweet 'N Low (saccharin) to be a little high for me. However, I use an "herbal supplement" (can't be called sweetner according to the FDA) called Stevia which can be found at health food stores (Whole Foods is where I get it) that seems to substitute well enough. Lauri mentions that she doesn't care for this herb, but this herb varies in taste wildly by manufacturer, so experiment if you choose to try it. Anyhow, my point is we're trying to wean ourselves away from sweet cravings (especially those with carb addiction), maybe reducing the amount of recipes that call for sweetners would be helpful.

In closing, despite this book's minor drawbacks, the recipes are really what I wanted to add some variety to the chicken and broccoli routine. This book satisfied my need and I highly recommend it for this purpose.
