Rating: Summary: Ms. Holloway's Review Review: Ms. Holloway must have read a different book. Each of her claims about what the authors have stated are erroneous.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable! Review: My blood sugar was averaging 150-180 and my doctor told me he was going to put me on pills. I found out about this book and it has changed my life. In 1 month I've lost 28 lbs and my blood sugar now runs 90-126 and decreasing. Best part - I'm NEVER hungry. The book answers so many questions as to why we are unhealthy, and provides a detailed roadmap to put our health back on track. It isn't difficult, and the results are immediate.
Rating: Summary: A miracle in words Review: My boss and friend at work gave me this book. We are both type II diabetics. I read this book, put its principles into practice, and have now been insulin free for 6 weeks. I have lost 23 pounds. I was previously on nph insulin 70 units in the morning and 60 units at night. I have utmost praise for this book and Dr. Ezrin and Mr. Kowalski for their desire and efforts that have changed my life, and could change yours.
Rating: Summary: Dr. Ezrin's book rules Review: Not only was I potential diabetic but I am also a patient of Dr Ezrin. Having thyroid problems was not my problem but normal sugar with high levels of ensulin. Dr. Ezrin explained the medical details behind the problems and by reding his book I was able to get rid of carb foods. By the way FYI Dr. Ezrin was the doctor who invented patuatery gland 50 years ago.
Rating: Summary: It Really Works Review: OK, this is less about the book than it is about the diet. It works. I have tried everything including Atkins and Weight Watchers. I had 15 pounds to lose. When my doctor said elevated blood sugar was the only thing he could find to explain why I wasn't losing the weight, I bought this book. Now, it is NOT an 'eat all you want of certain foods' diet. And sometimes I've been hungry. But it is easy to follow, not the least complicated and there's no measuring (aside from knowing what 3-4 ounces of meat/chicken/fish looks like, and 1/2 cup of fruit/vegetable.) I'm down 14 1/2 pounds. One caviat: since I didn't have a lot of weight to lose (I'm guessing this is the reason) it's taken me awhile. But it's the only thing that has worked. Right now I'm slowly re-introducing grains (bread, brown rice) and the loss continues (this was a problem with Atkins - the minute I ate a dinner roll, the weight came back). It really works.
Rating: Summary: Dangerously flawed Review: This book contains several serious flaws that perpetuate myths that have destroyed the health of Type II diabetics for years. First of all, it maintains that obesity causes Type II diabetics and that weight loss is the primary goal. The author does not understand that it is insulin resistance that causes Type IIs to become obese and that the primary goal must be to lower blood sugar. The idea of restricting carbohydrates is the only thing this book gets right. The extremely low calorie requirements are unrealistic and unnecessary if fat is not so carefully contolled. The author continues to propulgate the myth of "bad fat," while most recent studies find no proof of the assertions that fat in the diet causes the health problems of diabetics, but prove that it is sugar in all forms (carbohydrates) that causes high blood sugar, high cholesterol, et.al. This book also makes no distinction between simple and complex carbohydrates, all of which are deadly for diabetics, and it encourages fruit consumption (just sugar in another form). Finally, the book uses carbohydrate reduction for weight loss only and encourages diabetics who have reached a goal weight to "go off the diet" and resume eating 240 grams of carbohydrates a day, which is what got us all into this mess in the first place. Throw this book out and read Bernstein, Atkins, and Lutz. "Life Without Bread" is especially recommended.
Rating: Summary: Diet Does What Diet Says Review: This book is amazing - it is easy reading and a breath of fresh air to those of us who keep struggling with diet after diet. Everything the authors say about not being hungry and experiencing a rapid weight loss is true. I am not a type 2 diabetic but have a family history of obesity. You do not have to have type 2 diabetes for this diet to work. If you are like me (fairly active and a nutritious eater) and still struggle desperately with weight, I know this diet will work as well for you as it has for me. The fast weight loss is instant gratification that really makes you want to stick with it - I lost 7 pounds within the first 12 days!

Rating: Summary: This book could change your life! Review: This book presents a palatable alternative to the never ending spiral of increasing doses of oral hypoglycemic agents and subsequent weight gain. The authors have done an excellent job of summarizing the basic theory behind why this diet works, and provide an easy to follow meal plan for the first two weeks along with all the information you need to stay on track afterwards.
After four years of steadily increasing doses of glyburide (Dia-Beta)I followed this regimen and was able to taper off of my medication after 6 weeks. I have been medicine-free for 5 months, have been able to maintain tight blood glucose control and have an excellent cholesterol profile. This book made what seemed to be an insurmountable task a pleasurable exercise in taking control of my life.
There are two things I've been craving for, this book & a nice cup of s o y f e e. You brew just like coffee and NO CAFFEINE! I can't believe it's made from so ybeans cause it taste just like coffee. Look for it online at ww.s o y coffee.com. Like the book, a great find!
I recommended it to a friend who has realized the same success that I did. While this book will never get the press and publicity that the Atkins diet does, to me the program is much more sensible, easier to follow, and has the power to change your life for the better.
Rating: Summary: On a diet of 650 calories a day, who wouldn't lose weight? Review: This book really made me angry. The author's guarentee that if you follow their plan, you will lose weight. Well I guess so. Their plan calls for 650 calories for women and 850 for men. Then they say, you won't be hungry. And if you believe that, I've got a bridge I'd like to sell you. I bought this book for a friend who has diabetes. But this is not a book I would give to someone I like and care about. And all readers, but especially those with diabetes, would be well advised to consult their physician before embarking on so drastic a diet.
