Summary: HELP!
Review: MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THE DIET TO A "t", AND MY HUSBAND LOST 10 LBS. I HAVEN'T LOST ANY I'VE BEEN THE SAME FOR 2 MONTHS. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? CAN ANYONE HELP ME! DESPERATE!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: 10 pounds and counting!
Review: I was relieved to read someone else's opinion on low-fat diets. This book has helped me lose 10 pounds in a month. I had almost given up on dieting, but I'm now wearing clothes I haven't seen in years.

This diet is easy, practical and doesn't leave you hungry. It has not only taken off weight, it cured my hypoglycemia and eliminated water retention. (If you suffer from severe PMS, you may find this to be helpful.)

This is not just another low-carb fab diet, this is a new way of eating that works. All food groups are represented, and the recipes are easy. If you've been unsuccessful with dieting, all you need in this book and a little bit of willpower. You won't be disappointed, nor will you be hungry!

Summary: Very practical and low maintenance
Review: Great book. You pick and choose a way of living with foods you like that are low in carbs and stick to it. I like the approach and I have always felt great when I reduce my intake of refined sugar.

Summary: It does work!
Review: I submitted a review about 3 weeks ago and am blessed to report I have lost 18 pounds. I have 82 to go so this is great but only a start. The wonderful thing is that I am eating all the foods God gave to us and removing the poisons (sugar) and exercising enough to get my heart rate lower. I feel this is biblically sound as well as quite healthy for you!

Summary: this is no quick fix! but it makes sense!
Review: Hasn't anyone read the whole book? Having had a weight problem all my life, I feel I have tried virtually every thing there is, not only to lose weight, but eat right. What a lot of people like myself want is a quick fix to a weight problem that did not happen overnight. Like other overweight people, I was looking for the "magic" diet/pill that would let me wake up one day skinny. Guess what, it doesn't work that way. I didn't become fat overnight, nor will the reverse happen overnight either. The one word missing in all of the negative reviews is moderation. Of all the programs that you can do on your own, I have found that this works, if you use moderation. It does allow more fat than others and virtually eliminates sugar as we know & love it, but it also promotes eating natural grains, fresh fruit & vegetables, & lean cuts of meat. And yes you can have dessert! It's up to the reader to understand that just because you can have nuts doesn't mean to eat the whole bag! Nor does it mean to eat a whole stick of butter with a loaf of whole wheat bread! Moderation is the key here, along with the other things we lazy Americans hate to do, exercise, drink lots of water and eliminate caffiene. I love the fact that I can still enjoy a little butter with my roll, but it's up to me to decide how much. Also, for those of you experiencing headaches, it's from the caffiene elimination, not the sugar, that's why a bag of M&M's works to get rid of it! So for all you naysayers, when you find the "perfect" diet that melts it all away no matter what you eat or how much, let me know, but until then, this is the lifetime way to eat for me.

Summary: It worked for me
Review: It's hard to argue with success. The authors premise is that excessive insulin levels in your blood is what causes your body to store fat and elevate cholesterol levels. Since I started on this diet 3 months ago my cholesterol went down 35 points. I've lost 11 pounds. And it has "cured" my diabetes. If I follow the diet, my blood sugar stays completely normal. It's also one of the most sensible eating plans I've ever come across. I still eat carbohydrates, but they are whole grain or whole wheat now. The only thing I've had to give up is sugar, which was easier than I thought it would be. Pretty amazing for a lifelong chocoholic. The fact that I can still eat cheese, peanutbutter and other tasty foods makes it fairly easy. If you want to lose weight, lower your cholesterol, or get your diabetes under control, give it a try. This book has done everything for my health the authors said it would.

Summary: Book doesn't tell the whole story
Review: This book makes a great claim to be the "utopia" of weight loss plans. However, it doesn't tell the whole truth. I have tried the diet for about four days now. Yesterday I came down with a low grade headache and became grouchy. Pain relievers that normally work wouldn't stop the headache. By the wee hours of this morning I was feeling very weak. By noon today I was feeling dizzy, light-headed, and thinking I was coming down with the flu. All these symptoms went away immediately when I ate a pack of M&M's. The book said nothing about your body reacting against the sudden absence of sugar and carbohydrates in the diet. It made the diet sound like an almost too easy way to lose weight and mentioned no ill-side effects. I am only about 15 pounds overweight and have no health problems. I wanted to use this diet to lose about 15 pounds, but am now concerned about the side effects that the book says nothing about.

Summary: Cut your sugar intake to achieve optimal wellness
Review: Authored by three MDs and a CEO of a Fortune 500 company who say that if you cut your sugar intake you will lose weight, lower your cholesterol, achieve optimal wellness, increase your energy and help treat diabetes and other diseases. Whew! A lot of readers have been buying off on this; the book has been on the Times best-seller list for 25 weeks. The point. Refined sugar in any significant quantity is toxic. Why? Not to mention that it dissolves teeth, sugar causes the pancreas to secrete insulin which stores fat and makes too much cholesterol. The bottom line: Lay off sugar Some of the big ideas in the book. Read labels on food you buy and go with those that have little or no added sugar. It's OK to drink red wine in moderation. Chew food well (your stomach doesn't have teeth); this has a lot to do with how you absorb it. Corn, potatoes, processed cereal, white flour are bad, beans, green veggies, peas and sweet potatoes are good as are grapefruit, tomatoes, nuts and apricots among others on the list. The book's early chapters tell perhaps more than you want to know about the physiological reasons sugar is bad for you. There is a food "good & bad" list plus a meal plan to help you change your life.

Summary: Sugar Busters
Review: I'm 44 and have been a type 2 diabetic for four years. My nurse practioner recommended Sugar Busters to me yesterday during an office visit. She has currently lost 16 lbs. on this system and strongly recommends this book.(My 5-star rating is based on her opinion) I can see the information improves managing sugar levels and cravings. My concern is I really don't want loose any weight. I'm 5'6" and weigh 130. Can I still use this system without becoming overly thin? I was on a program two years ago that took me off all oral medication but I weighed 119! (I weighed 145 before I started.) I looked anorexic but had lost all cravings and had lots of energy. What do you think? Is it possible to do this and not loose a bunch of weight? marlmomg.aol.com

Summary: Best diet i've ever found
Review: I started this diet in mid Jan,99.I weighted 299 lbs(5 ft 10 in)and my cholesterol was 286(should be below 200).With modertate exercise by June I was 235 lb,and my cholesterol was 184.I took no medication except niacin,500 mg a day.I still am 234 lb today.I stopped exercising which I need to lose wt.This diet makes more sense to me,medically and from a scientific viewpoint than any other diet I've encountered. It tends to get lumped into the same category as the high fat and protein and low carb diets. This is simply incorrect,as reading the book will quickly show you.this is not a fad diet!I eat plenty of whole grains, brown rice, vegetables, and fruits and still lose wt.I have been a doctor for 26 yrs,and i have recommended this book to so many of my patients our local bookstore can't keep it on the shelf.
