Rating: Summary: Cut sugar to trim life, is more like it... Review: Obviously, this author has no idea about what sound nutrition is. While simple sugars may be harmful to diabetics, for instance, complex carbohydrates, such as those found in starches, are VITAL. Carbohydrates are nutrients for a reason: we need them to LIVE! Similarly, the prescription for carbohydrates in the average person's diet is 50% of total caloric intake. This is all sound medical fact! Not the hogwash this author tries to sell to you! Seriously, any college biology student can tell you the dangers of this diet. Go find a a book advocating sound nutrition, such as Weil's Eating Well For Optimum Health : The Essential Guide to Food, Diet, and Nutrition. Don't be fooled by the false promises of fad diets...corpses lose weight pretty fast too.
Rating: Summary: DISAPPOINTING Review: I actually bought this book when it first came out but now want everyone to know that it doesn't work for PERMANENT weight loss. I dropped some weight and then it came back on and I got so depressed! I finally did end up losing my weight for good, but it was with a book by Gary Rempe.
Rating: Summary: A Life-Saver for Me Review: On a recommendation from a neighbor, who is also a diabetic, I bought a copy of "Sugar-Busters". Little did I know that this book was going to be the key to saving my life. I have been a diabetic for approximately 7 years. I have NEVER been in control. I had 3 types of readings on my meter. 300's, 400's, and off the meter. (Normal Readings are from 80-140) All the while I was taking 200 units of insulin a day plus 3 other meds to try to get my sugar down. I never ate candy or sugar-related foods, or so I thought. Then I read "Sugar-Busters". Everything in the book made sense. I asked my doctor if I could go on the "new way of life" and he agreed. As soon as I started, my sugar readings immediately started to go down and now 3 weeks on my "new way of life" my sugar readings are normal. My doctor has taken me off of 3 of my Meds, I only have to take "R" when I am over 140 and I am now reducing my dosage of "N". I am also taking Avandia which before Sugar-buster wasn't controling my sugar either. Now I have the perfect combination and eventually I will be off of insulin. Thanks to "Sugar-Busters" I have my life back and a future to look forward to. My doctor is so happy he couldn't stop shaking my hand! Thank you for saving my life! I highly recommend this "new way of life-SUGAR-BUSTERS"!

Actually, that is NOT the bottom line -- these authors contend -- and that is one of the things that makes their book revolutionary. The bottom line is actually NOT calories consumed or fat consumed, but the extent to which the foods consumed promote quick glucose release in the bloodstream -- which itself promotes insulin release (which causes fat to be stored -- rather than lost!).
Rating: Summary: this non quick fix is working! Review: Hey just wanted to update those interested in the success of this program. I've been on this since January and so far have lost about 15 lbs. Not a lot, I have cheated quite a bit! But enough that my clothes are looking and fitting better, and I am DEFINITELY feeling better and healthier! Give it a try! Rating: Summary: It's not a diet. Review: Saying Sugar Busters! is a diet is like saying a BMW is just a car. Sugar Busters! introduces you to a different way of life. It doesn't say, "Starve," or "Deprive yourself." It says, "You want to lose weight? Do you want to keep it off? Then make some substitutions." Don't have white bread. Have whole wheat bread without white flour. Don't have brown rice. Have white rice. You messed up? Okay. Get back on it. You'll be fine. How much weight did I lose? Who knows. I threw away my scale years ago. I can only say that I'm saying hello to clothes that I haven't worn in years.

Rating: Summary: Lost Weight Without Hunger Review: I had gained 40 pounds since 1993. I have tried several diets with no major luck. I purchased Sugar Busters and began the diet 6 weeks ago. Thus far I have lost 28 pounds with out hunger or any side effects. Yes, I miss candy! However, I feel better than I have felt in years. I can (according to the diet) and do eat an occasional sugar free dessert...Ice cream, pudding. Several friends have seen my results and purchased the book. I am thankful that I kept my old clothes.

One thing to consider is while this diet may work wonders for your husband and others, it may not be the diet for you. Consider that there are hundreds available, all contending that they are THE WAY to lose weight. The bottom line is this... if you cut calories, and expend more calories than you consume, you'll lose weight. If you are following this plan "to a T" and not seeing results, consult the authors or your personal physician. There may be other factors at work.Another thing is consider your physical activity. Perhaps adding an extra 30 minutes of walking will help jumpstart your metabolism. (You took a lot of fuel away when you cut back on sugar.) Third, though not scientific by any means, it's been my experience that men tend to respond to these low-carb diets really well. Continue striving for a healthier lifestyle. Best wishes.
