Summary: Way to get SLIM & HEALTHY!
Review: I just got the book a week ago, and it looks as though I have found the answer to my weight loss troubles. I have followed the guidelines and eaten only the legal foods, which is a wide variety of all the essential food groups. I have lost a few pounds already and feel very good and not deprived one single bit. The thing I like the best about the program so far is that there are no strict rules, you just go by the guidelines and get creative with what you have to work with. If you want to shed some pounds, or just get healthy, you have found the book that can help you acheive both.

Summary: Modify your eating Habits
Review: First, this book is well written and easy to read. It has some simple diet plans you can follow if you don't know where to go next with this and some easy to remember instructions about how to read food packets at the supermarket.

Sugar is everywhere. Even where you do not expect it. Cutting sugar from your diet can seem quite daunting at first. It seems all your favorite foods have it.

The book explains how you get tired, hungry and irritable because sugar and highly processed carbohydrates raise your blood sugar and you get lots of sugar highs and lows. This also stops you losing weight because you store more fat. So follow the book, look healthier and have more energy.....

Summary: HELLO! DID YOU EVEN READ THE BOOK?
Review: For all of you who have given this book an unfavorable review...I wonder if you actually read the book. I'm sorry but the proof lies in my latest lab test results! My cholestral is down from 278 to 172 in just six and a half months, and my weight has dropped from 204 to 132! Before Sugar Busters my blood sugar was so out of control, at times I literally couldn't think straight. I moved throughout the day at a snail's pace, wondering every waking moment, as to why I felt awful all the time. This plan is not in any way, shape or form a high protein, low carbohydrate fad such as the dangerous Adtkins diet. If you think that eating meat, eliminating refined carbohydrate, in place of whole grains, eliminating sugar, and eating more fruits and vegetables is ''dangerous'' then you are simply a foolish person! I was able to lose 72 lbs. in 61/2 months while eating lasagne, pizza, tacos...you name it. You just have to make the necessary modifications....which are easy, providing you use whole grain products. To further illustrate my point....I paid $89 ten years ago for Susan Powter's Stop the Insanity. What a joke! Another one of those, high REFINED carb, low fat, sugar is just fine fiascos that just do not work! After one month, I had not lost anything while following the program religiously. Sugar Busters has given me my life back...and the reviewers who discourage people from trying this are doing many a grave injustice!

Summary: It really works
Review: This was the best book I ever read. This diet really works. I started at 215 lbs and 6 months lare I am 155 lbs. My cholesterol dropped from 210 to 140. I have never felt better in my life. If you are serious about losing weight give this diet a shot. I bought it for my father and he has lost 11 lbs in two weeks.

Summary: Sugar Busters! Cut the Trim/Cut the Fat
Review: When I asked my doctor to help me with a diet, she told me to get this book. Her husband had lost 45 lbs. using the book. So I bought this book, along with Suzanne Sommers book of a similar nature. I did not find the book easy reading. Nor did I find the diet easy to follow. One of the basic principles put forth in this book is that you can't mix protein meals and carbohydrate meals. This takes a lot of planning. I work full-time and have a busy schedule, and timing is everything with this diet. You have to eat your fruit 20 minutes before other foods in your meal. You aren't allowed to eat nutritious foods that I have been taught, as a home economist major in college, were very good for us and are packed with essential vitamins and minerals. For example such foods as potatoes, yams, bananas, carrots are all on the banned list. I have a very hard time accepting this theory. After trying for a short time, I gave up on the diet because I felt it was too difficult to keep up on, and I was also getting a lot of raised eyebrows from others close to me on the basic healthiness of this diet. But, I guess what works for some, doesn't work well for others. To me, it was just another diet that I ended up abandoning without much effect.

Summary: Changed Attitude
Review: For two years, my doctor encouraged me to obtain this book and abide by its guidelines. It was not until she discovered my borderline diabetes that I realized things had gotten serious regarding my poor eating habits. I purchased the book (and cookbook and shopping guide), read them front to back, and emerged with a changed attitude! The book is simply stated in an encouraging manner, and I so appreciated the explanations of how different foods are processed (or not processed) as they travel through the digestive system. Not only am I losing weight, I no longer suffer from energy dips, headaches or crankiness associated with my former eating patterns. I'm grateful the authors had the tenacity to 'buck the system' and present the facts.

Summary: Hard to stick to
Review: While this diet may be good for some people, I found it very hard to follow. The foods I love best are not allowed. I found myself CRAVING the "forbidden" food when I never had before. I am also concerned about how healthy a diet it really is.

Summary: I lost 95lbs!
Review: I bought this book one year before I actually went on the diet. When I first read the book it sounded too difficult and not something I could do easily. However, one year later I picked up the book again and thought I've tried everything else, so why not give it a chance. Well, I began following the program on June 1, 2000 and as of today, April 4, 2001 I have lost 95lbs and don't crave sugar, pasta or potatoes anymore. Before this program I don't think I went a day without sugar or two days without pasta! I have 30lbs more to go and a for the first time in a life of yoyo dieting, I am confident I will reach my goal and keep the weight off forever! Thank you Sugar Busters!

Summary: The Easiest and Most Successful Diet I Have Ever Been On
Review: I read all 169 reviews of SUGAR BUSTERS that were in place here shortly after the first of February. The vast majority were very favorable. I then purchased the book.

It is now March 6th, and I have lost 15 pounds! Of course, my weight loss has slowed during the last week, and I expect that it will go more slowly after the initial fast success. But since SUGAR BUSTERS is such an easy food plan to stay on, I am confident that I will continue to lose at whatever rate is right for me until I hit a weight that works for me. I am not bewitched by numbers on the scale and do not have a specified "goal weight" that I am trying to attain. If I end up at 150, that will be fine with me. I hit 200 at my heaviest (the end of last year).

I was not a fat kid, but I have struggled with inexorable weight gain since the birth of my first child 23 years ago, and I typically couldn't stay on a diet for even one whole day. After each pregnancy, I was left worse off than before.

My appetite was limitless; I snacked a lot on fats and carbs., and I drank Pepsi all afternoon and evening as well as at dinner. I never seemed to get really full at meals and would take second helpings most of the time, and even thirds. I ate when I was sad, and I ate when I was happy. I spent a lot of time thinking about food.

Now, I can hardly believe it, but I get full with food still left on my plate, and I quit eating voluntarily! I feel the urge to snack between meals only very rarely, now. I used to LOVE potatoes and have fixed and eaten them in so many ways; mashed potatoes with butter and cream mashed in were one of my favorite "comfort foods". Now, I have not eaten potatoes in any form for a month, and guess what? I am getting along just fine without them. I am getting along just fine without the Pepsi, too. I have had no "sugary" foods for that whole time, too, except for some slightly sweet salad dressings on salads. And I am doing GREAT without them!

My doctor had finally put me on blood pressure and cholestoral meds. last fall. He said if I would lose 20 pounds, my blood pressure might well go back down to normal the way it was before I gained all the weight. At the time, that seemed a far-fetched possiblity for me. After a few more weeks, I intend to go back to the doctor and see how my blood fats and pressure are. Perhaps I will be able to get back off of the meds. at some point after I have lost some more, perhaps not. Some who have followed SUGAR BUSTERS have reported that they have experienced that happy result.

I had tried Weight Watchers once, but thought the meetings were just dumb time wasters, and the rules that went with that program turned me off completely. The Atkins Diet was too rigid, even strictly limiting a lot of fruits and vegetables.

To say I am pleased with SUGAR BUSTERS is a huge understatement! This is the one and only diet I have ever been successful with, and it is so easy compared to other diets I am familiar with, that I believe I can stay on it for life. No weighing, measuring, counting, writing foods down in notebooks; just avoid certain "high-glycemic" foods to the greatest extent that you can.

My mood is evener, now, also. I am more cheerful and have a sense of well-being that is historically rather foreign to me. I don't worry and fret about problems as I did before. I would never have thought that refined carbs. were affecting both my mood and my appetite so profoundly.

I am now drinking water in place of the Pepsi and eating fruits and vegetables in place of the refined carbs, and I am quite proud of myself. One tip: whole wheat pitas and tortillas are a very good replacement for verboten white bread for sandwhiches. I enjoy them very much when I feel the need for a sandwhich.

Along with SUGAR BUSTERS, get EAT YOURSELF SLIM by Montignac. The plan is the same, and the Montignac book is a bit more informative, IMO. Also, do a search on the WEB for more lists of low-glycemic foods you can eat and high-glycemic foods you should avoid. There are a few inconsistencies in the lists from one to another so you do need to use some of your own judgement about okay foods: example, some nix pasta and some say certain pastas are acceptable in moderation.

I recommend both books above, unreservedly. This is the BEST food plan I have ever been on! Invest in the books and see for yourself!
