Summary: Sugar is a killer
Review: Although it took many years to get to my paltry three hundred pounds I thought I knew all of my eating problems. I have tried the low fat high carbo diets and gained more weight than I care to think about. I come from an energetic and athletic family. I received the book from a friend who has fought the fat wars as long as I have and she lost weight the first week she followed the guidelines. I have lost weight in amounts that I didn't think possible and feel better than at any time in the last five years.

I believe it is unreasonable for those critics of this book to believe that there is a formula that will fit every person out there. Common sense is much more useful than trying to place the responsibility on another person.

Despite what the reviewer from Missouri spouted about the diet is as healthy as any other diet. Diet by definition is a restriction of food intake. I don't think this person has tried the diet and I for one will change my lifestyle to maintain the weight loss that I am currently enjoying.

I think exercise is the most important part of maintaining weight and/or weight loss. I own and operate a business in addition to working for a local water district. I work ten hour days at the water district and then come home to continue work with my business. Time is a scarce commodity and I couldn't find the time to exercise. Not only that but I was so heavy that any exercise was an excruciating experience. Once I lost some weight exercise was more enjoyable.

This lifestyle has allowed me to feel good about myself for the first time in years. I don't fall asleep in the afternoon and there is an overall feeling of health that is hard to explain to those that have not suffered obesity.

I thank the authors for their book as it is not written to intimidate anyone.

Summary: The facts about weight loss that may "Rock Your World"
Review: I was skeptical. Another "fad" book about losing weight? I thought, "oh sure, get in line with Dr. Atkins and Oprah". Should I buy it? Should I add it to my collection of weight loss reference material that's so comprehensive that I could start my own fitness library? I decided to purchase and read it anyway. Let's face it, I'm a junkie when it comes to books like these. (Hey, they help me understand why I've failed so many times at losing weight.)

However, as I was reading Sugar Busters, it seemed to make total sense. It was logical and easily understood...and it was the first book written and supported by doctors that explained everything in detail. So I gave it's principles a try...and I'm glad I did. I'm writing this review as a person who speaks from experience after applying what I learned in Sugar Busters! Results speak for themselves....I lost 18 pounds in the first month. And now I can't wait for each new day. It's made losing weight less of a challenge and more fun! You can even choose to add moderate to aggressive exercise to your daily/weekly routines and expect even more dramatic results.

Read it, digest it (no pun intended) and follow it's recommendations. You'll be happy you did!

Summary: Book won't satisfy a curious reader; little supporting data
Review: I got the impression that the book was written in a hurried, careless manner, as if its only purpose was to sell copies. There was no data from actual patients to back up the claims made. Surprisingly, no mention was made of the Adkins diet, which preceded Sugar Busters and is universally known. I haven't tried any diet yet, and I am not saying that this one, Adkins or any other diet will or will not work satisfactorily. I'm simply stating that for an educated person, with serious questions about the author's claims, few answers are given. It needn't have been so.

Summary: Americans consume too much sugar.
Review: This city has gone crazy for Sugar Busters. I think everyone in the city has at least tried the diet. You can now buy Sugar Buster breads at the store and eat sugar less entrees at Emeril's restaurant.

My friend went on the plan and had some withdrawal nightmares but she got over it. She lost some weight but finds it difficult to stay on the diet all the time. I prefer to use "The Zone" by Barry Sears. I think balance, moderation and exercise is the key to good health. Try to avoid refined sugar and white flour as much as possible.

Summary: This is the way to go.
Review: The book is so great and explains so many things that other texts have failed to do. I am a believer and I can do this plan. I give the book my highest recommendation. I had no idea I was eating so much sugar trying to do the low fat routine.......

Summary: Great Book , and What is Reader from Missouri Really Up To?
Review: I love this book as it has helped me greatly to reduce my consumption of refined sugar and grains.

To the Reader from Missouri -- at the end of your interminably long review you state that "our inquiries" were not responded to. What organization are you referring to? And why are you so threatened by the Sugar Busters book, a book that has helped me more in few weeks than did years of toting the High-Carb, low fat rules?

Summary: Great! First book that got me to stop eating sugar
Review: I think this is the best book ever, for losing weight, feeling better and getting rid of the sugar cravings. I have bought this book for two other people in my family. You should buy it too. It's quick reading and everything is explained easily. Now go get it and feel better yourself.

Summary: Good for awhile but... too restrictive for a life time
Review: I have been doing a lot of reading and a lot doctors and other health officials are substantiating the fact that sugar is the real danger. I think someone could follow this plan strictly for awhile and lose the necessary weight but after that it would be hard to avoid perfectly healthy foods because they might have a high sugar content such as carrots or potatoes. It's not realistic. I wish they had provided a lot more info on how to lead a normal life once you dropped the weight with info about how many grams of sugar a day is ok for your age and weight. That way people can manage how they splurge, so to speak, on their own terms once they are slim and trim. This is no frivolous point as sugar is in just about everything. I will continue to read and put together my own plan. I hope people don't stick to one reference but look at many sources and devise what's right for them personally. So it's helpful, insightful but not too good for the long haul.

Summary: Nothing New
Review: Barry Sears covers this subject with more clarity and with better research data in "The Zone" and yet people continue to be surprised that carbohydrates cause weight gain when eaten in incorrect quantities. Sugar, as normally eaten in many forms (deserts and processed foods for example, is simply a poor way to get carbohydrates which must be limited to properly lose weight and stay in the zone. Read Sear's book. Then read "Sugar Blues" because it includes the dangers of eating processed sugar. What's the big deal?

Summary: This diet really works. I know someone who lost 105 lbs.
Review: This book really explains the sugar-busters diet. My teenage daughter lost 105 lbs. on this diet and it changed her life. She is the picture of health. It is real easy to understand and has some great recipes. It is well worth the investment.
